Cloth Diapering

Registry Help

Hello ladies! I need some help. I'm a FTM due in February and I planned on registering at BBB for most of our stuff and then Cutie Poops and Bottoms, our brick and mortar cloth diaper store, for our diapers and accessories. Well DH and I go in there today and apparently the store is currently for sale. The sales associate was great with info but she told us she couldn't guarantee their current return policy or if the store would even be open to honor my registry.

So now I need another place to register. I'm looking for recommendations. I was thinking of doing Amazon because that's universal but I have no idea if that's a good idea. Is there an online store that has good registry option with decent shipping? Also with a variety of brands? I would register for cloth at BBB but they only carry Bumgenius and Charlie Bananas. Any help would be appreciated!

Oh and one more thing, does everyone hate microfiber? I feel like it's the general consensus to stay away from it but it's EVERYWHERE!

Re: Registry Help

  • Kelly's closet is an online store and has a ton of brands/ styles!! I just finished my registry on there. They even have some great sales/coupons all the time :)

  • Amazon is your best option if you want to do a site more people are familiar with. But lots of the online CD stores do have registry options.
Sweetbottoms baby is one of my favorite sites, with a large variety and free shipping. They do have a registry.

Lots of people use microfiber in their pockets or MF AIOs without issue, but if you do start to have washing issues, MF can make those worse. I personally like to pair MF with hemp in my pockets.

  • Amazon is a pretty good universal site. I also really like Abby's. Lane for free shipping and points.

We don't love MF, but I do have some I've been using for 18+ months and it's been fine. IMO if it comes free with a pocket use it until it doesn't work for you. Then replace it. If you think you'll hate MF, don't get any AIOs that have it.

  • Aww... That's sad. That was right by my parents' place. I think BRUhas more CD options now than BBB.
  • I used microfibre with my daughter for two years.  I just retired it because they were dingy and yucky.  I'm using my prefolds/flats now in the pocket diapers

  • I registered for CD's and accessories from Amazon and diapers.com. A lot of people bought that stuff for me - it was awesome. Then I supplemented with other items from GMD, etc.

My shower hostesses put a note in our shower invites that we planned to CD, so I think that helped.

  • BabyList (babyli.st) is a great option.  We used that for our registry and it worked out well.

That said, don't bother registering for CD stuff.  No one will buy it for you because they don't know what it is or will think it's weird. Well, that was our experience anyway.

  • Thanks for the input everyone!!! I think I'll do Amazon for the universality. But yeah, we'll see what people actually buy us. I get that a registry is just a wish list, I'm not expecting people to buy our entire stash:)

  • I'm going to resurrect this because I have a related question.
I started an amazon registry, but my family doesn't really shop online. However, a lot of things (the carrier I want, CD, etc) are not in my local BRU.
Is there a way to encourage people to try online, or are they just going to go to target and get a random outfit no matter what? Not to be ungrateful for gifts, but I'm big into second-hand for most things, so clothes seem like a waste of everyone's money to me!

  • To be honest @scaggsed, they will probably just buy you what they want to buy you.  I'm a FTM and would love for more people to utilize my online registry, but I've seen from friends' showers that people tend to prefer buying cute little outfits.  If it turns out to be that you've received too many outfits, maybe you'll be able to return some for some store credit to get the items you can't manage without.
  • A friend of mine set up her registry on babylistregistry.com, so she could link to different stores as well as stores that don't have their own registry feature on their websites.

You can do this with amazon, too. I'm basically using it as a shopping list, although I'll share it if and when someone asks.

People are going to buy you whatever they are going to buy you.  But hopefully they give gift receipts, and you can return them for store credit.  Then you can buy the diapers online using store credit.

  • I wouldn't focus on registering for CDs unless they give you a completion discount somewhere. I have a few friends/family that would buy CDs off the registry, but only those whom already CD their own child. Apparently the idea of CDs either grosses people out or they are overwhelmed and don't know what would be the most helpful to buy. (This is from comments friends and family made after seeing CDs on my registries in the past.)
  • Hahah, thanks for all the advice! I don't think I'll ever convince my family online shopping is easier... I've been buying some CDs but the H keeps telling me that 'if you don't buy everything we might get stuff from people.' Last time he said this I responded with 'someone's going to buy me a hundred dollar diaper bag that is only available online?' And then we bought the diaper bag :)

  • @scaggsed‌ I just had my shower on Saturday and I was pleasantly surprised with how many people shopped my Amazon registry. Even my Grandma has Prime so I think a lot if people like the convenience of it.

As far as CD items on my registry, I got a decent amount. People liked buying the diapers and covers that were cute prints. And because I put that stuff on there, I only got one box of disposables. And it was a 70 person shower.

So I say register for whatever you want, be happy with what you get and you might be pleasantly surprised:)

You'd be surprised what people will spend on baby shopping. I had someone the first time around buy the expensive baby monitor off my registry. I put it on the registry because I liked that particular one, but honestly had no intention of buying it because it was so expensive.
