Parenting after a Loss

I fianlly made it here..but now he is in NICU :(

So i am so happy to say that Hayden Christopher Razo has finally made his way into the world. After 32 hrs of induced labor and 30 min of pushing he is finally here. 6lbs 11oz 18in born exactly at 2:30am on 5/19. He is perfect in every way and looks just like his daddy!

As for the xtra thoughts and prayers: He is juandice due to him having A+ blood and me having O+. They are only concerned because they found it at under 12hrs of age, and his bilirubin levels kept going up and were at an 8.3 after his last test last night at 7:45. They started at a 7. They tried to decresse the levels with the billi blanket and it did not work. So now here I sit in recovery at 3am with my lil guy in NICU. Crying

Logicly i know it is best for him but the mommy part of my is dying inside, to work so hard to have him and still not get him here. Good news is he had another test at 12am and the levels did not go up or down. I am holding onto hope that I will not have to gome home empty handed on Fri, it would kill me! Any extra thoughts a prayers would be greatly appriciated. Thanks ladies, hope it all made since im still running on new mommy addrinalin.

  • Congratulations! I hope you got some rest while your LO was being taken care off. I'm sure you have been told this, but once the numbers drop he is good. Sounds like they will start dropping today.

Rest well and enjoy this exciting moment!

This exact same thing happened to Colin and I.  I am also o+ and he is A+.  Crazy how our universal blood will do this to our babies, isn't it?    Colin had to lay on the biliblanket for almost 2 weeks..  We tried the bilibed first *which is supposed to work much muhc much faster*, but he wouldn't lay on it.   I am sure he will be fine and his NICU stay will be short.  Be prepared to have to deal with the lights for a while though.  They take time to work.   If you have any questions * I know i did*  please feel free to ask!

Also those bilirubin levels are still really low.   Colin left the hospital with levels of 13.  The next day it jumped to 18 and made it all the way to 23 before they started dropping.  It was really scary.  If his level is a 7 and it is already leveling out, he will be over this in no time flat!

  • Congratulations! I'm sure you are dying to take care of him, but praise God that we have the means to take care of babies like this. He is going to be just fine and you'll hold him soon enough!

  • congrats!

i know how you feel, my LO was in the NICU for a few days as well; however he was born in small hospital so he was transferred to a different hospital an hour and a half away so i couldnt hold him for 42 hours! it sucked but i kept trying to remind myself that it could have been worse.are you breastfeeding? i am successfully now but the beginning was rocky for us.

anywy, i hope you and your LO can go home soon!

  • Congrats!!! Try to hang in there. I know first hand how tough the NICU can be when you have a baby that's so close to perfectly fine. All you want to do is hold them and make decisions for them and be able to show them off to all your visitors. Hugs and keep hangin in there!
