3rd pregnancy and I think it might be twins

I'm in my 19th week of my 3rd pregnancy and I'm a little concerned that it might be twins. From the second I got pregnant everyone kept asking me if I was having twins, including my husband. I kept laughing it off. I could feel a ton of fetal movement starting before 12 weeks pregnant and I've been measuring about 1 1/2 weeks larger than I should be (which I have never done before because my babies tend to be pretty darn small). Tired doesn't even come close to what I have been (and it's not from being a mama of 2 already because they're older, so I'm not running after toddlers all day) and I've been excessively nauseous. I also had a higher level of HCG than what is normal for myself (my other 2 pregnancies I didn't show up in a urine test until close to 3 months and this time I showed up at 2 weeks!). Twins also run in my family on my dad's side and my mom's side (not as strongly in my mom's side). I'm trying to calm myself down and come to terms that there is a possibility of it before I go for my first ultrasound next week. I just don't want to hyperventilate or something. LOL. Anyways, are there any out there who experienced all of this during their 3rd pregnancy???? Was it twins or was it just a 3rd pregnancy????

Twins as far as genetics is through the maternal bloodline. The only way to know is with your ultrasound, good luck next week! We found our about our twins at our first appt with our dating ultrasound.

I'm assuming you have antenatal care since you know you know you are measuring 1.5w ahead. Hcg numbers, being tired, measuring larger doesn't necessarily point to twins. To be honest, I would expect your uterus to be measuring larger than 1.5w at 19w if you were in fact pregnant with twins.

Everyone is different though. Twins run in our family. This is my second pregnancy. My hcg numbers were not high, I'm not tired, I had little to no sickness, and I didn't feel movement that I could truly contribute to the fetus until about 20w. I've also measured 6-8w ahead since hitting the second trimester (which has been the one consistent thing from other MoMs IRL).

Like the pp said, the only way to know is an u/s.

Congrats on your pregnancy ! Your symptoms listed don't tell you anything regarding twins vs singleton. Only a sonogram will tell! I also have measured 4-6 weeks ahead with my twin pregnancy. If you do find out you are having multiples come back and hang out. Good luck!

Keep us posted and congratulations. I assume you will have an ultrasound soon that will be the only way to answer your suspicion.

Like PPs have said.. I would def. not get worked up that it's twins, bc it's probably not. At 19w I was measuring 5 weeks ahead and I still have no symptoms at all. Also, I didn't feel movement at all until 19w. Let us know when you find out!

I spoke to the doctor about it because I thought I was going crazy with feeling the movements. But the doctor, my mom, and my husband could all feel it too when they pushed on my belly. And the doctors right now just keep confusing me about heartbeats and all sorts of stuff. At this moment I'm feeling they are useless in helping to answer any questions that I have. They know my past pregnancy history so they are surprised that I"m measuring larger, normally I measure small. And I've gained a bunch of weight already, and I'm not eating enough to really explain why such the high weight gain at this point. I guess I'll just try to see. I'm just curious is there's anyone that's been in a 3rd pregnancy with all the same experiences that I've been having. Most people I have talked to that have experienced these same things at the same time like me ended up having twins. I'm neither getting my hopes up or stressed about it, I'm just a crazy planner and want to ease my worries that I'm going crazy. LOL

I'm sorry but I don't really understand this thread at all. How have you not had an ultrasound at 19 weeks??? How are the doctors confusing you??

I agree with what the other ladies posted. If the doctor can't give you a straight answer, I'd seek another one mainly because I'd be questioning competence. I work in healthcare and the physician should be focused on this pregnancy and shouldn't be comparing it to your previous pregnancies unless they are concerned about something - which if they were, you should have had an ultrasound sooner or been referred to a specialist.

I won't doubt that people can feel something when they push on your stomach but I'm more inclined to believe it was either gas or gastric motility than the actual fetus. You can press on the abdominal area of any living human, animal, male, female and typically feel something.

As for weight gain, have you had hormone levels checked, namely thyroid? Hormone levels can get out of whack especially if you are older and that could be the cause of your weight gain. You are attributing it to the pregnancy but that may not be the actual cause. Weight gain in itself is not a twin symptom...I've gained less with twins so far than I did with my singleton.

I actually do not know of anyone in real life that had exacerbated symptoms with twins and I'm part of a twin mom's club. I've read it on the internet, but real life, no. Everyone I know with exacerbated symptoms have had or are pregnant with singletons. Like we've said, everyone is different. I hope you get your answer soon so that you can be sure one way or another.

Weight gain is not a symptom of twins that is for sure... I have gained like 6-8 pounds and I am almost 22 weeks.

Also I agree with pps ... haven't you had a sonogram already!?!?!?

I'm assuming you'll have an anatomy scan around 20w, so very soon... Then you will know for sure. Every pregnancy is different, even if you're just carrying one. I actually gained less with my twin pregnancy than my singleton. The only "twin symptom" I had early on was that I was starving and eating like a horse and not gaining any weight. The reason we are all skeptical is bc people come on here all the time thinking they are having twins but they never ever come back... Bc they end up not being pregnant with twins. Also, as far as measuring big, I measured anywhere from 6-10 weeks ahead. 1.5 weeks is only 1.5cm and could easily just be the way they are measuring. Good luck! Both your mother's and father's side determine your predisposition to have fraternal twins. The side that doesn't matter is your partner's side. Huh, I honestly did not know this and thought it was only passed through your mother'a genes. So, if my grandfather's (my mom's dad) sister was a twin, that could be passed to me? Mine are identical, so it wouldn't matter in my case but just wondering...

I just realized that it was my gransfather's mother that had fraternal twin sisters... Not my grandfather. But I guess that still applies. No twins in our family other than that that I know of... But now that I know twins actually "run in my family" besides just having spontaneous identicals myself, I will be extra careful!!! Lol!

I caught that to. I chose to assume OP meant two weeks after ovulation, but this whole post seems fishy to me.

Very fishy. Positive test after two weeks, movement before 12 weeks and a post on the baby shower with a controversial topic.

I am only up 8 lbs with my twins (third pregnancy) and I am 18 wk 5 days. So I wouldn't go by weight. I am with the others that maybe consider a new dr if they are not addressing these concerns. I am surprised you haven't had an US at this point at all- maybe consider an elective?
