Re: Birth Story - TOJ Edition - Updated

  • I hope the implication isn't that other woman were in more pain (ie walking slowly, not able to walk) because they chose a different route during their labor. Birth is a personal experience for each woman, just as pregnancy and parenting is. The way that our bodies carry, birth and react to pregnancy is very different and very individual.

Congrats on getting the birth you desired.

Congrats to all the other mothers and soon to be mothers who no matter how they choose/chose to deliver are equally as amazing.

@cbug7‌ This was simply my experience. I am hoping that people don't read too much into it. I think that all birth is natural and that no way is one way superior to another.

Oh jeez, really? This is HER birth story. You don't need to try and pick it apart to make it about you or anyone else.

    There's always 1...
Seriously - you would think that a birth story would be drama-lurker free, but nooooo...  So unnecessary.

Hey, I have a question: what was the reasoning for not giving a number on the hospital's pain scale? Personally, I find those pain charts kind of silly myself, so I was just curious if admitting there was any pain would set you back, mentally? And if so, why not just say "I feel no pain."

Well, pain is relative and the constant reminder that there was pain may have distracted me from my goal. Saying that there was no pain really wasn't what I was after either. It was more that there wasn't a need for them to know my pain level, especially when I had no reference for how much that was going to be. I also didn't want them to recommend me any pain medication, so giving them a number would have been arbitrary and a further reminder of my discomfort.

  • An example would be, when I looked through the photos taken of the day, the first thing I said to DH when I saw myself having a surge was, "Oh look, here I thought I was in pain" and I laughed.
