Anyone facing the possibility of multiples?

Twins run on my moms side of my family my moms brother snd my sister both had twins. And on DH's side of the family is a set of triplets. So I'm aware that it is possible to end up carrying multiples anyone else and does it worry you? It didnt bother me until I hear about all the risk that could be involved.

My mom was a twin and her twin had twins...so it's certainly a possibility on my end!

It's not in my family but with a lot of twin and triplet pregnancies you get put on bed rest around month 7-8 and you almost always have a c-section. Also one or both of the babies might spend a week or two in the hospital (usually the boys) but after a few months they're often as healthy as any other kid.

Twins don't run I'm my family but Im kinda secretly wishing for them... We always said 30 years old would be our cut off for having babies and I'm 29 now. But part of me would really like at least one more baby after this one.... So twins would give us 2 babies in one shot haha problem solved!

Same here! No reason to think I'd have them, but twins would be sort of perfect. I always wanted to have one bio-baby and then adopt later on, but if I had twins they could have each other until we're ready to adopt.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation about how twins "run in the family" in this thread. Identical twins are considered a random occurrence and not a hereditary trait. Fraternal twins happen when a woman double ovulates. This is a trait that passes from mother to daughter, so twins in your dad's or brother's family do not increase your chances of twins in any way.

I am - after 4 years of TTC we moved to IVF. We just finished our first attempt and transferred 2 embryos. I found out last week that I am pregnant but I don't know if it's twins or not yet. After all of this im just so thrilled to be pregnant!

We used clomid to get pregnant so there is a chance for us.

Wait, isn't it possible that any of us could carry twins? So, technically, we're all facing that possibility. Some may have increased odds perhaps, but it's a possibility for anyone. My mom's a twin so that makes it slightly more likely that I could have had some hyper-ovulation going on. We'll see.

I'm scared too I'm going to have twins or more. I'm a twin myself and my mum, dad and husbands side all have sets of twins and all are natural without any ivf help. All up I have 7sets of twin in my family atm.
They said it skips a generation but that's not always true.

I have a very good chance to have twins too. I lost fraternal twins 3 years ago and they say that once you get pregnant with twins (fraternal) then you are four times more likely to have twins again. My HCG levels tripled this week too so that makes me a little nervous.....lol! We will find out on the 20th when we go back for an ultrasound.

We used chlomid and I had at least two big follicles so we are looking at that right now. I'm hoping to find out more from my hcg levels in my blood draw tomorrow.

DH is a twin and has twin aunts and great aunts on his fathers side..and I have twin aunts...so I guess it's a possibility but the line on the pregnancy test was so light that I doubt it. (I may be lying to myself but I had read that twins means waaaaay more hormone so I just assume the line on the test would be darker earlier lol)

I don't mind to idea of multiples, im just not sure about it the first time around. Oh well we'll see I guess. And @Bert86‌ I've heard that from some people too and if that true for our family im in for a big suprise at some point.

Multiples do run in my family, although there haven't been any for the past 2 generations. I'm freaked out at the possibility of more than one. This is the last baby for us and I really hope that there is just one in there.

Twins run on both sides of ours family's and I am a twin. My sister is currently pregnant with twins so I am hoping that covers this generation!! With that being said, I wouldnt mind it being twins and then we can stop because DH and I only want two!!

Twins run in our family and there has always been a chance that I could have twins but I currently have 3 children under the age of 4. We definitely wanted a 4th baby and we wanted them close together but a 5th baby wouldn't fit in my van!

I have always wanted twins but the idea of having them first terrifies me. I don't want to have to learn how to parent on two babies at the same time! One of my friends had twins first and she always seems exhausted. I would love to have twins later on, but right now I'm afraid I couldn't handle it. Of course, DH apparently loves the thought of multiples and keeps informing me we're having twins. Or sometimes he even says (since we eventually want 4 altogether) that I'm going to have them all at once and save time. Goodness I hope not!

I do know that someone in our family is due for twins because my maternal grandfather had a twin sister and twin brothers besides (although I'm not sure if they were also fraternal or not) and for all it's supposed to skip a generation, no one in my mum's generation had twins and no one in my generation looks to be having kids of any kind any time soon, so I feel like it's going to be me. My paternal grandfather was a twin as well but I'm pretty sure identical so that doesn't affect me at all.

ETA: Oh yes, and my HPTs have all been very sudden and dark positives. The T line showed up immediately and was much darker than the C line, starting from the first day after my missed period.

I don't have a family history, but my understanding is that genetics only play a small role. Any fertile woman is capable of having twins, a family history doesn't affect it THAT much, again, to my understanding.

That being said, I don't actually think I will have twins but the thought has crossed my mind on occasion. DS and SS are only 7 months apart, and will be just-turned-4 and 3.5 respectively when this one shows up. Twins, I really don't think I could handle it. I'm sure if I were to find out I was having twins though, we would do just fine. It would just be a lot to handle.

I am. I was pregnant with twin boys buy we lost them at 19 weeks. We are hoping for twins again!
Just to point it out identical twins isn't hereditary. Fraternal twins can run in families but it would only affect you if it's on your mothers side

We did IVF again for this pregnancy and put in two blasts so there is a definite possibility. Last time we put in two and ended up with just one.....my betas were a tad lower then when I got pg with my son so I am thinking just one took, but I know betas can be deceiving....

Like others, I have wanted twins...but it's also terrifying. My father is a fraternal twin...and I am feeling more nauseous with this pregnancy. ..whether or not either actually means anything, only time will tell.

I already ovulate but we used Clomid this cycle due to trying for 19 months and we are actually hoping for twins, however a singleton would be just as amazing... Won't find out for another 4-5 weeks : ) Can't wait for our first ultrasound!

Also, my best friend got pregnant on her 1st cycle of Clomid and now has 4 year old twin girls that are precious : )

Anyone else on fertility meds?

My dad is an identical twin, 2 of my brothers are identical twins, my cousin had fraternal twins (her dad was not the twin to my dad), my sister was pregnant with twins but lost them, my father in law is a fraternal twin and my mom has triplets on her side.

With all that said, we're hoping for twins since we only want 2 kids anyways.

Yes I took Clomid as well. My Dr prescribed a pretty high dose since my previous progesterone readings were low and she wasn't sure I was ovulating, although in retrospect we could have waited longer to resort to Clomid. We've been together 12 years and are finally ready...and so we were REALLY ready.
Anyway, my 30 day HCG readings were very high (9000) and my Dr suggested thay might be why, so that is another possible sign. Also I have pretty serious fatigue.

I will find out for sure on the 22nd I hope...with the U/S.

Was scared at first because for first time parents it will be overwhelming. But I am getting used to the idea and excited about it either way. :x

Not just the possibility, although we had no reason to expect multiples, we've had an early scan and have had fraternal twins confirmed. This follows a miscarriage in August, so keeping FX for a better outcome this time . Good luck to you too!

Fraternal twins run on my mother's side & I was on Clomid this cycle, ovulated 2 (possibly 3) mature eggs. It's a definite possibility for us. All any of us can do it wait it out.

I was on Clomid, and my GYN said that my chances of twins were drastically increased because of it. So he sent me for an ultrasound even though it's super early (6 weeks and a few days) and I haven't even established with an OB yet. Had the US last night and... There THEY were - TWO babies with TWO (faint, fluttery, not audible) heartbeats!! I was actually hoping for twins - everyone I know who's had them says it's actually much easier in the long run. Plus, I always imagined I'd have kids earlier in life, but that didn't happen, so two at once means I have the chance of having the larger size family I've always wanted before I get too old!

Twins run on my mom's side. My grandmother lost twins at 7 months, my grandfather's brother lost his twin in womb. I think I would love it. I'm absolutely scared and excited at the same.

We have a real chance of twins. My hubby has fertility issues so we had to do IUI and fertility drugs. After 2 years and 4 failed tries we finally got our BFP !! Super excited I had 2 perfect follicls and 1 that was almost perfect. My nurse seems to think we have twins !! My first US will be 10/21 and I will be 7weeks !! So in 10 days will know how many little beans we have !!

We used fermera this IUI cycle and had two mature follicles so it's a possibility.
