  Never got ask to donate! I always think if the placenta and the cord blood is so great they should always donate it instead of throwing it in the trash!

  We basically put it through a process that cleans it and dehydrates it. Then cut it into different size pieces, package it, and sterilize it. After that, I'm not sure what it is used for, we sell it to hospitals and doctors to use for transplant.

  Googled --  "There are multiple cellular components found in placental tissue that have the potential to help patients heal. The amniotic membrane (or amnion), which comprises the innermost layer of the placenta, has been used for decades to promote healing after surgery. Currently, amniotic membrane is being used for a wide range of procedures including eye, oral, spine surgery, and for the treatment of difficult-to-heal wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure ulcers (bed sores), and burns."

  I initially offered to donate my cord blood but then I found out we wouldn't be able to do delayed cord clamping to and I changed my mind.

  I didn't even know you could donate. Mine came home with me in a container and I spent a week trying ti figure out why and what I was supposed to do with it.

  Yes, I donated mine. I delivered at a teaching hospital that also does a lot of research. They just asked if I wanted to donate when I was in labor. I had no plans myself for my placenta and figured it was going to be discarded otherwise. So I donated it! Super easy, just had to sign a form. I don't know what they did with it, but I was not expecting the giant blob that come after the baby. I had no idea a placenta was that large! I'll totally donate again.
