Can't go #2, desperate 4 advice

Hey! Sorry in advance for TMI! I am 11.5 weeks pregnant and cannot go #2! I have talked to the dr regarding this and I dont know what else to do. I have eaten so many fruits and vegetables, I drink approx 3 liters is water each day. I've tried Colace, prunes and a fiber supplement. Nothin so far is working. What has worked and what is safe for me and baby? I am desperate for some advice here. thanks!!

Re: Can't go #2, desperate 4 advice

  • Dr advised colace and fiber rich foods. She assured me that all would be fine but I need to find a better solution since nothing is working for me so far. I'm hoping a momma with previous experience can give me advice.

  • I would follow up with your doctor. As for me, my GI issues have lessened over time and are better when i stay active and hydrated. But everybody is different. We can give you all the advice in the world but without knowing you and your medical history, it's hard to advise someone on an issue like this.

  • Thank you Doribeth! Me too!!
  • When I had issues earlier in my pregnancy I would eat yogurt or kiwi every night and it seemed to help.
  • I used Milk of Magnesia after no movement for 4 days...my doctor said that was fine for occasional use. Then i started eating Activia once a day and am pretty regular with that alone and it has been about a week.
  • If you're taking the pill prenatals with a lot of iron, I would alternate those and the funnies with at added iron supplement. It has less than the prenatals. Hope this helps, it worked for me! good luck.

Haha! I was wondering what the "funnies" were! I hadn't heard of those yet!

Thank you for the advice :)
  • My doc recommended I take miralax everyday.

  • Try water with a couple slices of Apple in it. Green worked best. Let the water sit (in the fridge) for an hour. I found that the more it soaked the Bette it worked. Have you tried ginger or lemon? I tried ginger tea which helped, also sucking in a slice of lemon. Maybe some black coffee too. Sorry so long, thinking of everything that has worked for me. Good luck, it's no fun!!!
  • 2 caps of Miralax a day. I wasn't even regular BEFORE pregnancy, but this worked wonders once my midwife suggested it. I was doing 2 caps Miralax and 1 scoop Nesquick in a glass of milk every night!
  • I've heard warm prune juice with just a dab of butter works like a charm. Have never tried it but heard it works like a charm
  • I had that problem at the beginning of my pregnancy and my doc recommended switching prenatal pills. Now I use Rainbow light, it still has the iron needed during pregnancy. I hope you find a solution!
  • I find watermelon helpful. I also noticed that I've been doing a little porcelain dancing to help move things along. Can't say it actually helps, but it feels like it does.

  • All great advice!!! Looks like my next step is to the grocery to get some activia and miralax! I won't be letting you know how things go ;) and promise to bring this back up to my doc bc it's been way too long since I've gone. It's just that it's Friday night and I want to go Saturday morning. Ya know?!
  • Mini wheats, about half a cup of coffee (that's all I can tolerate) and colace taken twice a day.... It's not the greatest but it does help. Being active seems to work fairly well for me too.

  • My uncle swears by Epsom salt and warm water (just googled this and apparently due to the high levels in magnisium in it, it is actually an effective laxitive). But I don't know if it's safe during pregnancy, and I know you can OD, so I'd be careful.
  • Yogurt with cultures, prenatal fiber gummies, and excercise.

Same here. Miralax 2-3 days in a row helps me. Also, walking 30 min after eating as uncomfortable as it can be when constipated
  • I used to be so regular but pregnancy stopped that. I tried prunes and other high fiber foods with no luck. The only thing that works for me so far is drinking coffee, so I have a cup and a BM every 4 days or so. If the coffee didn't work I would try Miralax. That stuff is awesome and gentler than milk of mag.
  • Try apple cider vinegar in smaller diluted in water dosages. The doctor and mom risk said it was fine when I inquired. Magnesium citrate as well. Do you do yoga or go for walks I find the movement helps also.
  • I hVe been living off activia ( it's my breakfast and dinner dessert and sometimes mid day snack...) kiwi (at least two a day), at least 1 peach, and those little dried prunes (when I can stomach it, I have to chew slow and breath between chews b/c they taste so gross to me).
I also swapped up my pill time at 10 weeks, I was taking my pre natals at night b/c it upset my stomach if I took them during the day, now I just eat a piece of toast w/ my activia, and take those pills at breakfast and yes my stomach is upset BUT I CAN POOP! Now @ 11 weeks.
I've never been so happy just to have a bowel movement, I'm still eating all that fruit though:(
    Good luck !
  • Sometimes, the only thing left is a fleet enema - the opposite of awesome, I know. They can provide too much sodium if you do more than one or two, so just use them to get things cleared out, then load up on all the poo-friendy foods pps suggested.

  • Magnesium supplement
  • Start taking a probiotic. I had same problems.
  • Hi you could try blending tin mango, pineapple and a couple if kiwifruit the kiwifruit acts as a laxative and it taste good too, if you can try the gold kiwifruit much sweeter then the green all the best :-) from nz :-)
  • Yogurt and chia seeds saved my bowels without getting overwhelmingly bloated. Good luck!
  • I have a tbsp of flax seed oil before bed with a snack and it helps things move along in the morning. Sorry you're so uncomfortable.
  • If you can get papaya that has worked great for me. It's enzymes are digestive power houses.
  • I was also going to suggest a suppository.

I always become incredibly constipated after my c-sections and I would try everything ot move things along.  By the time of my third c-section, I just asked for a suppository.  I am so glad I did because I got relief within the hour.
  • I changed to a food based prenatal, it helps a lot.
  • Not sure if this was suggested, didn't read pp.

    Make kale chips! Seriously...

Kale, olive oil, salt. Eat the whole bunch and drink more water :) best of luck!
  • My doctor recommended taking probiotics daily. He said they work great and have more benefits than taking something like Miralax.
  • I just started on a probiotic and it is working fantastic at keeping my bowel movements regular!! I have a few friends that have had great luck with this route as well :)
  • Miralax works best :)
  • Miralax! Start small is always my suggestion- half a cap at night, dissolved in the tiniest amount of warm water. I then add a bunch of cold water and there is no flavor or odor whatsoever! Good luck, this is THE WORST.
  • I am 11 + 3 and having the same problem - bit grim but I find rocking slowly on the toilet helps! (It's all such a magical time!!)
