Did any of your drs tell you how much water to drink? I'm going to a clinic and she just said drink a lot of water, but I watched a lady on YouTube who had to drink a liter of water before hers. Also, does his help get a clearer image?
I remember it being a lot. Like 2 full glasses at least. I didn't get any instructions this time but I'm assuming I'll be facing the dildocam for my first sono. Just call and ask if you are unsure.

I drank a lot before mine but I also had to take a urine test before my u/s so my bladder was empty. I had a belly us, not sure that makes a difference. Anyways we could see the baby perfectly fine.
For my FET I had to have a full bladder so I just drank one of my large water bottles I take to the gym. I think it's 32 oz's, but I didn't finish it. They said my bladder was very full.
@katnhiding thank you! It will be abdominal, but they're also going to give me a pregnancy test before hand. Do you think emptying my bladder for that will mess anything up? /
When I went and had mine, they asked if I was "uncomfortable" full bladder, when I said I was close she said to pee, your body will still be producing urine and there was no sense in me lying there uncomfortable.
My instructions for my transvaginal on monday are as follows:
Appointment at 5:15 pm
1. Empty bladder at 3:15 pm
2. Drink 32 oz of water by 4:15 pm
3. Hold it until 5:15 and pray I don't pee my pants and that the U/S is timely. They DO know I am pregnant, right?!
That's cruel and unusual punishment to have to sit for an hour after you drink your water. For my FET I had to have an abdominal us and I didn't drink a full 32 oz and I got to sip on it slowly the hour before and it was plenty good enough. Also you are having a transvaginal us, you don't even need a full bladder for one.
Yep, it's 32oz and you are supposed to hold it. That's for the transabdominal ultrasound. Then, if they are doing a transvaginal ultrasound, they will have you empty your bladder prior to doing the transvag. The reason is a full bladder pushes the organs out of the way that are difficult to see through (bowel) so they sonographer can see your uterus more clearly. I have had a pelvic ultrasound before (I wasn't pregnant at the time) but it was so incredibly uncomfortable to have that full of a bladder and have the tech pushing the transducer on my stomach! I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all. I work in medical imaging But a very full bladder=better images! Good luck!
