TTC After a Loss

Hello all,
This is the first tcc board I've posted on--I've just been a silent lurker. We started ttc May 2014. I found out I was pregnant in August 2014 and then miscarried a few weeks later. I guess it was technically a chemical pregnancy. My husband and I are both 26. The doctor told me we could start trying again, so we have. I have long cycles--the month I got pregnant I didn't ovulate until ~ CD 45. Oh, and I forgot to say, I recently got some blood work done, and my family doctor said I have a mildly under active thyroid and antithyroid antibodies. I'm not sure what all of that means, but I have an appointment on Monday with my OB/GYN to discuss.

  • Welcome to the board. I'm sorry for your loss I was recently DX with Hashimoto's - I have thyroglobulin antibodies and my TSH was high. The smartest thing I've done is start seeing the endocrinologist. I've been on meds for almost 2 months and just had my first ever 'normal' cycle (30 days, licht/medium AF, ovulation around CD15)! I highly recommend seeing an endocrinologist! Good luck!

  • Welcome to the board. I'm sorry for your loss.
  • Thanks everyone. @Yorkielove83, that's awesome about your 30 day cycle! If you temp, has medication made your temp more stable? Mine is all over the place! I temp (vaginally) at same time every day, so I don't know why it's so inconsistent. Feel free to chartstalk:https://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/51e574

My insurance requires a referral to see an endo. When I see my OB/GYN, I'm going to ask him if he can refer me to one. My primary care doctor called me today (on a Saturday!) and said that she had the results from the additional testing. She said that despite having antithyroid antibodies, I did not have an immune disorder (yay!). She said my thyroid was working harder than it should be though. She showed my results to an endocrinologist and he recommended either not doing anything and retesting in 3 months, or taking a low dose of synthroid. Since I'm TTC, he recommended treating with medicine and retesting in 6 weeks. So that's the current game plan.

  • @BritJonathan, I'm sorry for your loss.

I was just recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid as well. My cycles have always been pretty regular, but since starting meds two months ago, my TSH level has gone from 8.09 to 4.04. My RE wants it to be around 2 for TTC and pregnancy, though, so I still have a little ways to go.

As far as a referral for an endo, you may just need to call your PCP with the doctor's name you want to be referred to.
