When do you plan to....

Curiosity question....when is everyone thinking will be a good time to put the nursery together? I mean, *really* put together with furniture and all? I fell in love with some furniture I found and it happened to be on sale at an "I-can't-pass-this-up" kind of price, so I ordered it. I mentioned this to my mom and she freaked! Totally superstitious about putting together the nursery furniture too soon. Says it's bad luck. I wasn't planning on doing it right away (I'm only 19 weeks) but wanted to start getting it started. If she had her way I wouldn't have a crib put together until delivery. So what are everyone's plans/thoughts?

I'd be worried about doing this too soon, too, as a superstitious thing, but right now the room for the nursery consists of bare subflooring, unfinished dry wall, and no trim or finishing. We stripped it to the rafters last year, then insulated over the winter. I'm hoping that the rest of the process will slow us down enough that the nursery isn't finished by the end of the first trimester, like it might be otherwise. I love projects like this!

We had to wait until my father-in-law came to help my DH with redoing the insulation and drywall before I could buy the furniture. We had no space during renovation. We finally started ordering around 27 weeks.

We put the crib together after our A/S in the beginning of July. I took a week off in August to finish the rest because I wanted it done before the semester started. I could have waited another month otherwise.

For me, it was nice to have all the furniture together, closet cleaned out etc. before my first shower.

I can't allow myself to believe in "jinxing" anything - it's too much stress. I simply have to believe this will be okay. I spent too much time anxious as can be over imagining the worst case scenario during infertility - now that I have gotten pregnant, I have to (for my own sanity) believe it will all be okay.

We bought a glider-recliner at 14 weeks about. Only reason I hadn't purchased everything else by now (24w) is because I was waiting on my shower (this Sunday!). But we will be assembling the crib next week, and have already cleaned out the closet and painted the dresser.

I'm just getting the twins room together right now at 30 wks. I just need to do the touch up paint. Then I'm just moving in the crib and dresser. I do still need to buy another dresser which will happen very soon.

As far as purchasing things early, I bought a double stroller when I was 8 wks along. I had always wanted this stroller and it was $200 less than the usual price so I went for it.

If you aren't superstitious about it, then I don't think it's too early to get the nursery started. You never know what kinds of challenges you will face later in pregnancy (baby comes premature, bed rest, etc.) so it might be nice to get things ready sooner rather than last minute. I read something awhile ago from someone on the bump about buying things for your baby and preparing in the spirit of "believing in them". I think that is a really sweet sentiment. You can choose to be afraid of jinxing something or choose to think positively. I don't think either way will affect the outcome of anything.
Congrats on your nursery furniture! That's so exciting
This is a really good outlook. I am glad this thread came up - I need to get in gear with preparing for this baby and not let superstition get in the way!  I keep wanting to take the tags off our newborn size clothes, but then have this little voice that says I won't be able to return stuff if something goes wrong.  It's a sad thought and I'd much rather go ahead with believing in this baby :)

I'm 32 wks and we haven't done anything yet to get a nursery set up for this LO.  We had been debating for a long time whether or not to have DS#1 room share with the new baby, so I think that's somewhat held us back from doing much. We have a changing table set up in our house and a bassinet stored in the attic that we will keep in our room for the first few weeks, which is about the minimum needed for a newborn.  We just decided to change our office into a nursery for LO, but need help from family to move things since I'm to the point of not being helpful.  I'm guessing things won't be done until I'm 35wks or so?

With DD I was due 01/29 and I had my shower at the end of October and I received all my nursery furniture then. Actually hubby and my dad put it all together when I was at the shower, it was really cool coming home to furniture. My 'rule' was I felt comfortable after Vday to start doing more furniture and car seat type stuff. Knowing the baby would likely survive if born calmed me a lot

We have a crap of stuff that needs to get done. (And I'm already 23 weeks - eek!) We have to clean out 2 rooms - what used to be the den, turning into the baby's room and the office, which will turn into a den. Then we gotta paint and pull up the carpet and fix the wood floors underneath. And then we can start thinking of putting stuff together. Our shower is on Saturday either 11-22 or 11-21. Anyway, so we are hoping the room will be cleaned out and fixed up before then!

I think that we ordered our crib around 16 or 17 weeks because we found a great deal.  We didn't start putting the nursery together besides just moving the boxed crib, an old dresser, curtains, and a rug in there until I got into 3rd tri.

We are moving before baby comes so the nursery furniture is acutlaly in the garage still in the packaging but if we weren't moving I'd already be setting up (I'm 23 weeks) Honestly, how exciting to glaze upon it every day!!! Also, I would relaly want to get it set it up before I'm huge and uncomfortable! I HATE relying on other people to do things for me!!

I'm trying to stay positive and I'm slowly getting excited. We redid our entire house over the last two years so our nursery room is in good shape with brand new flooring, painted molding, and even yellow paint.

I am planning to buy a crib before the end of the year (I read the best time to buy baby stuff is November?) and I think we'll set it up whenever my husband feels like it, which could be sooner than later. I'm hoping to get everything done and ready on the early side, just so I can stare at it and be happy :)

I'm 15 weeks and I started looking at stuff last week. I found a free crib/mattress on craigslist so  I figured why not!? Then I found an awesome glider/ottomon set (velour corduroy...the type that retail for 500-600) for 75. I snatched that I up too. :) I can't wait to do more! After having two losses, it is kind of scary to think what if.....but I found at the beginning of the pregnancy that I have to commit myself to the positivity. Buying things won't jinx me. I'm enjoying the ride as much as  I can!

I started the room around 17 weeks, I'm almost 26 weeks now and we still aren't done.  We did a lot of work, put a ceiling fan in place, painted, replaced a vent, bought/trimmed/painted new closet doors, put furniture together (we waited till after 19-20 week ultrasound for this), put up a decal, etc. We just have been doing a little every week.  My goal is to have it done by time I have my two big showers so we can put all the baby stuff in there for storage and start organizing it all.  Towards the end of the pregnancy our weekends will be consumed with either showers or baby classes (childbirth, baby basics, 3D ultrasound, breastfeeding class, etc.).  So it will be nice to have everything done, plus you never know if baby will come early.  I work with preemies, so I wanted to be done by 30 weeks.
