  • @sugahcookie01‌ I love the name and I love that cute name picture.

@ChickenOnSunday‌, I'm glad the f/u u/s went well. Hopefully your LO was just pissed at another intrusion causing clenched hands.

To everyone involved in that DD, thank you. I needed a laugh this morning and you guys had me rolling.

  • @ChickenOnSunday‌ - Glad this u/s went better. Hoping the next one is good news.

Side thought: I work with the biggest bunch of cheap asses on the planet. My coworker and I are trying to organize a retirement party and the 50 employees in our division donated $15 to the party. Our division director and assistant donated zero. But if we didn't have cake at the party there would be hell to pay and they will complain if we don't have the pop they like. So now the two of us have to cover the difference. One word and I'm going to be a bitch.
  • Would anyone like to pretend to be my body double so I dont have to sit in here today. Im just not in the mood for the contstant interuptions. I would much rather go browse the interweb for cute baby crap and stalk all the comments on Trolling Tuesday posts.

TL:DR - DS woke to to early, I ignited him until he went back to sleep and got enough sleep. MIL called to tell DH that she's getting open heart surgery and had a minor heat attack.

Random time now that I'm completely caught up here. DS was up playing in his room at 5:30, I ignored him and he went back to sleep until 8:30 and then just brought him to my room to cuddle while watching cartoons. Both of us get so lethargic and restless after the flu shot. We finally got up and were just enjoying stirring around when MIL called. She told me that she was making blankets for all the grand kids for Christmas and just picked up the stuff for this one's then asked to talk with DH. She let him know that she's probably getting open heart surgery and had a mild heart attack. DH hadn't spoken to me all morning except to inform me that I was making him fast and this is why he needs to exercise and eat healthy. When I said that I understand he told me I didn't and then talked of before finishing this sentenced "my mom needs open heart surgery, she could d...". I'm ata loss for how to help him. My pregnancy attitude almost told him that his inability to communicate his emotions and relieve himself of emotional stress would cause a heart attack long before his weight and diet. I offered for us to go down to see her before her surgery but he refused. I don't know how else to help him. At least we have a healthy, strong baby girl.

Eta: added the TL:DR since you don't all have time to read a chapter.

  • @jennhillhoite I'm sorry your DH is going through that worry and stress, as well as feeling unable to communicate his feelings to you. Is he usually private like that? I know my DH is very private and won't share his fears/worries with me to keep me from worrying for him. It was difficult for me at first to accept this, but I know it's who he is and just how he always has been. I think I've seen him cry only once in the ten years we've been together. But enough about my DH. I'm sorry that YH told you that you're the one making him fat but really it was out of his worrying about his mom. Maybe he refused to go see his mom before her surgery because he wouldn't be able to hide his emotions from her and therefore cause her more stress before going under? I think your being by his side and just listening to him when/if he's ready to open up about it is the best you can do. It has to be frustrating to not be able to do much else, but I think just letting him know you love him and are there for him will help even if he doesn't show it. (Sorry if this wasn't helpful at all.) Hugs! Hope his mom gets through everything smoothly and recovers well.

All caught up (I think!) this morning -- I'm excited for those of you ( @ckimberley14 @sugahcookie01 @Amaryllismagic -- did I miss any?) who have chosen such lovely names already for your new ones! It's funny how you can love so many names even if you know that they're not going to be right for your own child -- every time I've been seeing a "final" name here, I've been like nodding in real life, all, "that's a gorgeous name. Just perfect." and yet I'm totally still undecided on our own name choice...

So my news today is that I'm 20 weeks! I know lots of non-FTMs say subsequent pregnancies go so much faster, but I have to say, my experience is that I feel like I've been pregnant for foreeeeever, so it's really nice to hit a number that feels really sturdy and round. And of course, it's especially relieving to hit that with (so far) a healthy prognosis for me & baby... I know it's just a number, but I'm definitely letting a breath out a bit today. We have our A/S next Tuesday, can't wait to see the little kicker!

I'm also very grateful that this smelly butt thread didn't show up when I (and we) were more in the first trimester. :-&

PS I love collard greens, especially with a bit of bacon... how dare that smelly-butted-troll try to ruin delicious side dishes for me!

Edited because no formatting is working for me today!

@crabigator Thank you! And I had the same thought on the smelly butt thread. In first tri that would have made me gag for sure.

@jennhillhoite Sorry YH is being that way, it's not fair for him to blame you.  My DH has moments like that too, when he realizes the effects of his lifestyle on his health and takes it out on me.  I hope things go well with your MIL, maybe he will feel better once that is over.

  • Thanks, @ckimberley14‌. Normally he can share his feelings without a problem unless it's about death. At the tender age of 16 his best friend (only friend really) had an allergic reaction to MSG leaving him in a coma wroth zero chance of recovery. After months of visiting him in the hospital every single day the family finally decided to pull the plug and they waited for DH to be there because for some reason it was a bright idea to let a 16 year old boy watch his best friend die. DH now has issues with hospitals, grave yards and talking about death. We have no real reason to worry about his mom because she's been eating healthy for three years in an effort to lose weight and, outside of arthritis and heart trouble, is in good shape. Both of her parents are still alive and over 80. The only losses in her family have been due to shortened life span from medical disabilities and accidents. We went through this 5 years ago when his biological father had a quadrupal bypass.

I know he wasn't talking out of fear or anger when he blamed me for making him fast. It's been an issue for us for a long time. We have 2 very different body types so I need high fay, high protein meals to keep weight on but he can gain weight eating salads. After DS was born we switched to no soda and a vegetarian salad once a week for dinner. I lost 35 lbs and had to tell him that I couldn't keep that up or I would fall into the underweight category. As of now we found a compromise where he won't gain and I won't lose but he still has self esteem issues from it. It's one of those things that's hard to escape because his brother's are the same way even though both of them moderate their diets and eat way better than us. There's just no easy way to tell your husband that maybe what he eats isn't the problem and he should be more worried about how much he eats.

    Sorry for the book.

  • @trin42 what is this book you speak of?? I look at the Top 7000 names from 2012 ocassionally but STILL feel like it's "all the same." We're going to need major name help so inspiration is appreciated.

Also. My friend just texted me that she got caramel apple candy corn. MUST FIND IT.

  • Hey gals! It's been a while since I was able to join the spam thread.

I read on here a few days ago that someone said once they had a kid, they stopped wanting to spend discretionary money on themselves (???) That prompted me to think I should take myself on shopping sprees now in case I have an aversion to buying myself things later (?@!). Sooo.... should I get these expensive but cute boots?

  • @sugahcookie01 - Good luck at your A/S today! Hope all goes well. Congrats on picking a name. That is so sweet.

Just wanted to pop in quick and say hi to everyone. I've been manning our booth at career fairs all week and haven't been around much. I've also been having extreme anxiety about our A/S on Monday. I'm scared we'll find out this baby has a defect like our first daughter. DH is so positive and optimistic, so that's helping a little.

@freegiraffe‌ Most definitely get those boots! When LO arrives, then you can worry about finding less expensive models. ;)

@jennhillhoite Sorry about being totally wrong about YH blaming you for his weight. It would be hard to deal with that when it's not anything you can control yourself. Maybe there's a way to get his doctor or other health care provider to tell him about portion control? So it's not coming from you? My mom is the same way. She eats way too much and waits too long to eat, so even though she eats healthy foods, it's too much at the wrong time.

That's horrible about him having to witness his friend dying, especially at such a young age. I can see why he would have trouble with worrying about his mom having such major surgery and talking to anyone about it. But as you said he's been through this with his biological father, so I can't really think of any more suggestions on how to help him through it except to support him (i.e. emotionally) however he lets you. Sorry it's putting stress on you, too.

  • Thanks, @ckimberley14. This is just one of those things. I've been trying to get him to focus on the baby baby lately. He gets so stressed about school, DS and feeling fast that DS's toys being on the ground throw him into a tizzy about how or house is a filthy disaster. I'm hoping that he'll focus more on this LO now to distract himself until after the surgery. You have great advice, though. I would have definitions gone with it if we didn't go through this once already.

  • There were some coupon codes in one of the pregnancy magazines. I'm not interested but am willing to share the love. I took a look and I think you only have to pay shipping for the items.

$50 off from carseatcanopy.com  (this is a necessary item but someone who is crafty can make it lickety split)
$40 off belly band from bellybuttonband.com
$35 off a nursing cover from uddercovers.com (horrible company name)
    $40 off a baby carrier from sevenslings.com
$50 off baby leggings from babyleggings.com (these are so crazy cute on a baby. we have a few pairs from when W was a babe)
    $40 off a nursing pillow from nursingpillow.com
$35 off breast pads from breastpads.com (I used disposables with my first but I do like the idea of using something reusable instead)
Thanks for sharing!! Has anyone ordered from these companies before?  They appear to be all owned by the name mother company.  I thought about ordering a few things but wondered about the quality.

I hope we can change his focus soon. The surgery is next Thursday so it's only a week but it's going to be a long week. He has trouble regulating negative emotions so I'm hoping that by bringing up the baby I can help him to do so. I'll probably offer to give LO one of his mom's names as a middle name. I think Jean is a great middle name.

I ordered the Bella Band from them early in my pregnancy and I only paid for shipping. $15.00 for two bella bands and the quality is great. I wear them every day. I get emails for these discounts. I used code FAMILY2014. It seems to be the same coupon code for each product? Not sure, but I know for sure it was for the Bella Band and the car seat canopy. Can't hurt to try! But the shipping was quick and there wasn't any "catches". :)

  • I hung out with my SIL and nieces last night (went to the hotel they were staying at and played in the pool before they flew back home) and I left my sunglasses in her hotel room. I realized when I was half-way home so I could have either

    1. turned around (via getting off the highway and getting back on at a place where I didn't know if there would be convenient turnarounds), drive back to hotel, pay 8 dollars to park (because they(babies) were taking a bath when I left and it would have been impossible for my SIL to 'quick run down my sunglasses for me', and collect the sunglasses. or

    2. forget them and deal with not having my (good) sunglasses until I see them next for thanksgiving.

I chose option 2 but I am not too happy about it.

I don't know if it helps or not, but if they are waiting a week to do the surgery, then they probably aren't too worried about her. Don't get me wrong, open heart surgery is scary, but the fact that they aren't wanting to do it right now says a lot.  Do you know why they want to do surgery rather than just doing a catherization?

I'm not sure. She's very cryptic about her physical health. All we know is that she didn't notice the heart attack, she has passed a blood clot in her eye before, that blood clot caused her heart arrhythmia to act up so they did a surgery to insert a mesh once and that it's related to her RA somehow.

She does this everyday up to three times a day.
