What a great update! I'm so glad that your cervix is closed and the contractions have stopped. T&Ps and hugs for a healthy and happy trip home and a long pregnancy.
Okay everyone, I'm back home now. After getting my blood work and urine analysis back, the doctor decided to let me go home and rest. He doesn't know why I started having contractions, but he did say that having them 15 minutes apart, as they were recorded on the contraction monitor, is very unusual and worrisome at 20 weeks. However, my cervix is completely closed and I have no other risk factors for preterm labor or any signs of preterm labor. He emphasized that he did NOT think I was in preterm labor at all. He said that sometimes pregnant women can have a bout of contractions or cramps and then go on to have totally normal pregnancies.
I am supposed to rest all day today. If the contractions come back I have to go right back to labor and delivery. If they do not, I can go back to my normal routine tomorrow- even including exercise if I want to.
So everything turned out OK, at least for now. I'll feel better if I go 24 hours or so without any more cramps. The doctor said that a couple here and there during the day are nothing to worry about, but once they start happening 4 times in an hour, that's when you need to be evaluated. That being said, I'm going to be super nervous about any contractions for the next little while!
While in the L and D ward, I saw one newborn being carried by a dad in the hallway and heard another one crying. It made me excited for our turn and also completely terrified that I would not get to hold our own newborn since at that time I wasn't sure if my baby was on the way out or not. So glad that I'm home now and baby is safely tucked away inside.
Thanks again for the support everyone. I'll put a shorter update in the original post for the tl;dr people
So glad to hear everything is as it should be on the inside despite the pains. Keep that baby bakin'!
