Starbucks for the Pregnant Mama

If any of y'all are like me, I love me some coffee, especially an afternoon vanilla latte from Starbucks. YUMMMM!! Gosh- I want one now just from thinking about it hahaha. While I know doctors say a cup a day is ok, what about later in the day or at night when you want a piping hot drink to warm up with..or when your SO makes a side stop at Starbucks??? So, with that said, do any of you ladies have yummy caffeine free hot drink ideas?..besides decaf? I read a blog where a pregnant woman would order a "vanilla leche" - steamed milk with a shot of vanilla. Maybe some of you veteran mamas can give us newbies some ideas :)

Re: Starbucks for the Pregnant Mama

  • My Dr told me two cups a day or the same as 2 cans of pop.  I would say that it goes for the whole day and does not matter what time you consume it.  I switched my Dt Dew to caffiene free last time so I could still enjoy regular coffee.

  • Hot chocolate?  Apple Cider?

From Starbuck specifically...looks like on the kids menu they have flavored steamed milk, like the vanilla leche you described.  Maybe a low caffeine or caffeine-free tea?

When it comes down to it getting a tall espresso drink, even if you had your morning coffee, is probably ok.  As long as it's not all the time.
  • @slweaver0626‌ and @CrazyCupcake52‌ thanks ladies! I never thought to look at the Starbucks kids menu. I feel better knowing that an additional latte every now and then at night or in the afternoon won't hurt anything. Maybe even a half caff? BTW @CrazyCupcake52‌ :Your profile pic makes me really want a cupcake hahaha

  • Does anybody know how many cups of tea you can have a day?
  • Bolthouse Farms Vanilla Chai heated :) Though I guess technically it still has caffeine.
PINK or BLUE, either will do. Expecting Baby #2

  • Why not decaf?  I've already had two of those bad boys this fall :-)  Short decaf pumpkin spice!
  • Trust me, I'll be hitting up S- bux soon for the Pumpkin Spice :) . I was just wondering if any one has something yummy and different that can be made at home or is a secret menu item.

  • Starbucks will make any of your favorite drinks decaf. You can even get a shot of decaf espresso! I have a horrible caffeine intolerance and get palpitations whenever I drink coffee, so I frequent the decaf menu.

Also, I'm obsessed with Williams and Sonoma hot chocolate. I have a little frother at home.. I'm addicted.

  • I've recently discovered tea lattes.  Brew up your favourite tea in a concentrated drink and add to equal parts heated milk.  I drink a lot of loose leaf teas but I've had to give up many of those because of pregnancy.  With Starbucks now owning Teavana you might be able to get starbucks to make a tea latte from almost any tea (again be really careful of the ingredients).

  • I always just order whatever I would regularly get in decaf.  I can't tell the difference!

  • Research their teas before consuming. There are two that contain herbs that can induce problems if taken in quantity when pregnant. I remember it was a huge deal when I was pregnant with my first, so maybe it's changed. I know one was some type of berry tea.
  • You can ask for a half caf if you want a little caffeine! Also look at their website, I believe the lattes are better than regular coffee as far as caffeine goes... Calories... That's another story!
  • My office has hot chocolate so I've been doing a cup of sugar free hot coco in the afternoon instead of my usual cup of coffee. Or starbucks does have a really yummy caramel hot cider. Just have to be careful because sometimes they go over board with the caramel and it's to sweet.

  • I recently discovered that most decaf coffees are decaffeinated by a chemical process that is not necessarily good for your health. Look for brands that use a more natural way of removing the caffeine. I know Caribou is one of them. This is a great article:
