How many newborn clothes?

So we are heading into the home stretch and are finished with all of our showers. Most folks got us 0 - 3 or 3 - 6 month clothing, which I'm guessing is going to be too big when they get here. I was just wondering how many newborn outfits/clothes should we have? Right now, I have 3 outfits for each little guy, which seems on the low side unless I want to do laundry every day. Should I just buy some extra onesies and keep the tags on and wait and see? Or is there a brand of  0 - 3 months that runs small that I could use? Also, about how long did your twins stay in the newborn outfits? Thanks!

Mine were 5 weeks early and wore newborn up to their due date (preemie in the NICU) I definitely needed more than 3 days of NB clothes but sleepers and onesies were good enough since we didnt go anywhere. If you dont deliver too early you might not need any NB. Keeping the tags on is a good idea. I got lots of barely used hand me downs in the early sizes so I traded all my shower gifted outfits for 6mo + sizes.

The girls were born at 37.2 and wore preemie for about 3 weeks. We did not have enough and we had to order some jammies on amazon. I thought carrying them so late I wouldn't need preemie but they were small. They were so small I didn't like to put them in onesies, I really only liked the Gerber zip up footy jammies, and for preemie sized we had some Petit Lem that someone had handed down to us, thank goodness. Once they were out of preemie after a few weeks, they flew through newborn in about 3 weeks. They finally fit into 0-3 by about 2 months old, and my smaller twin lasted in those until about 6 months. She is just now growing out of 3-6 mo. at 8 months. My other twin is in 12-18 months and is only 4 lbs heavier.

Mine were 5lbs and 5lbs 8oz at 34w. They wore preemie for about a month and NB for about 2mo. They didn't move to 0-3 until they were 3mo old.

I prefer sleepers over onesies, but that's personal preference really.

Gerber runs ridiculously small. Carter's runs true to size. Circo runs wide and short. Gymboree runs slightly big. Old Navy runs small.

My twins were just born on the 12th (35.6 weeks) and I seriously underestimated how tiny they'd be, LOL. Mine were 5.4 and 5.11 at birth. They are too long for preemie clothes so the NB swallows them. They are still in the NICU so we've had to time to get more newborn sleepers. My two singletons were over 8 pounds so I just never really grasped how many NB clothes I'd need and I'm going to need them for a few months!

I had mine at 38wk1day and they were both over 6lbs each and they wore nb for a few months. They even wore preemie pants and a few preemie zip up jammies. They have stayed pretty true to the sizes in Carters brand onsies. I had a ton of onsies and it was nice not having to do laundry every day. You most likely will have to change them at least once a day sometimes because of blowouts and spit up. I liked buying the 3 or 5 pack onsies like from Target.

Thanks so much ladies! I really appreciate your input. It wasn't until I was putting away the clothes that I noticed how small the newborn was compared to the 0 - 3 month & then thought Hmmm. . . we might be on the smaller side with 2 coming. It looks like a little shopping is in my future:)

I would wash up some of the 0-3 stuff and see how small they come out. My "nb" stash includes a lot of 0-3 stuff that is actually very small. I have about 16? sleepers in Nb (or small 0-3) size, a few onesies and a few pants.

We needed lots of preemie, newborn and 0-3 months.  I can't remember exactly, but they were in newborn for quite a while - maybe around 2 months.  I found 3-6 months to be a waste.  They were in that size for about 2 weeks.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!

My girls were 5lbs when discharged. We didn't use preemie, but they wore NB for 3 almost 4 months. Ii ended up buying a bunch of newborn, no way I was doing laundry all the time. They are 4.5 months now and 12.5 lbs each and some 3 and 0-3 is big while some 6month fit. Manufacturers need to get the sizing on the same page!
