I know I'm in the super minority on this, but why do people care so much about this? I'm genuinely not trying to be obnoxious when I ask that. Maybe I'm just really unsentimental, but who cares what the baby comes home in? He/she will probably go through at least 3 outfits that day - why does the one for the car ride home have to have so much thought and energy put into it?
I think I care a bit more just because I was adopted and have none of this cheesy kinda stuff at my parent's house. My mom also never keeps anything of mine for longer than a few minutes so I've been the hoarder and collector of my own childhood memories. I will probably waaay overdo it for my own baby and someone will need to stop me. :P

Am I the only one confused as to why they make fancy dresses for newborns? I guess if you want fancy photos or something but surely it could wait until the poor little thing could hold her head up. I dunno, just looks so uncomfortable (though cute) but it's hard to tell from just a photo.

This Carter's set at least (extra layers if it turns out to be colder in metro DC).Technically was in the boys section but was as cute as all get out. Warm, comfy, and practical is my main MO, here.
We got that set too! We are team green and I think it could go either way.
I'm getting LO a cute outfit for Hannukah/Christmas. Babies look adorable in little outfits! I know that in five minutes it will be covered in poop, etc. I do the same thing to my dogs. They get a holiday outfit and that is what they eat there latkes in. I think it's the same thing for coming home. It's a special moment in their lives and it is nice to have something sweet to put them in. That being said, the dress is better for holiday pictures, not coming home. I like the yellow one the best!
This is what we brought Grace home in (February in Wisconsin)
Oh my god are they really that tiny?!
P.S. She's adorable
She was IUGR and came home at 5lbs. But usually they are just about that tiny! Everything, even preemie/newborn clothes were huge on her. She was in newborn until around 2 months old.
And thanks not the best picture but I love how small she was there!

I'm in NE. Husker football season will pretty much be over by my due date but still thinking of some kind of Husker outfit. Or most likely I'll decide that is too expensive & just go with some cute fleece pajamas. I mean really..the hospital is like 25 mins away so why do I think it has to be something fancy? OP, I'm with the other gals. Save the cute dress for pics or some other special occasion. Go with the warm & fuzzy pajamas ;-)
Just bought this, hoping it is small enough for a newbie. It will be paired with hot pink wool pants. I'll take a couple other sleepers in nb size just in case this isn't small enough.
Jonah will be coming home in a whale outfit. It's not that cold in AZ, even in December, so the light hoodie will be enough plus the warm blanket tucked around him once he's already buckled into the carseat.
Coming home outfits do tend to be a "thing" in Texas. With my first I bought the prettiest, over priced dress from Dillard's and she wore it for 5 minutes for hospital pics. She didn't like it and I didn't want it ruined. She ended up going home in a simple onesie and the dress never made another appearance. With my son, I did a cute but comfy layette outfit and will do a sleeper or something of the sort this time, too!
I might use this one with a onsie underneath it. It's pants and a jacket in very soft materials. Then socks and booties plus a cute hat and bow. How cute!!!
I'm thinking of this since I just bought it on Etsy, and it's very cute with the matching daddy t-shirt. I live in so Cal so I'm not too worried about cold - it's often in the 80s in December.
Might dress it up with a hat/pants if I'm feeling ambitious for photos, or something to add warmth if it does randomly get cold.
My sister is a nurse and she hates the little hats that they put on the babies the standard blue and pink stripes so she bought both of these outfits for us because she loved the hats. Not sure which I will put him in yet - but PP are right dress is a bit much for coming home. She will be out of it in no time.
I have a few things I'm debating between, but I have yet to for sure decide.
I had DD in late January, when it was still cold outside and my biggest pieces of advice (though I know all babies are different):
1. DO NOT TAKE A BABY HOME IN A DRESS. It's cold outside. I think this is a very outdated trend anyway.
2. Get as many outfits with the built in mittens as you can. Like many babies, DD had claws and her poor little face needed protection. We had the legit baby mittens that we often used, but they're a total eye sore in photos and not nearly as convenient. This goes for outfits both in the hospital, on the ride home, and after being home.
3. Get as many footed bottoms as you can. Socks are great and obviously an alternative, but they were constantly falling off DD in the hospital and it drove me crazy. I was bummed I only had one outfit with the footed bottoms.

This is what we brought Isabelle home in, family tradition. However as soon as we got her home I changed her. This baby will wear something comfortable
