Hi ladies I can really use your t&ps. I was getting ready for work and just about to walk out the door when I thought I peed myself. Went to the bathroom and huge gush of blood. Like all down my leg and soaked my underwear. I'm freaking out. On my way to L &D

Update: I'm sorry it took me so long to update. Every time I tried to get on my phone at the hospital to update I got interrupted. Thank you all so so much for the kind words and t&ps (and for my labor buddy @wallygirl checking in on me!).

So here's the long story...
Last night I was having some mild cramps that felt like menstrual cramps. I had a 13 hour work day, but I have a mostly desk job, so didn't think much of it. This morning stomach still hurt a bit but not as bad. Got ready for work as normal. DH left about 10 minutes before me. As I was literally walking to get into my car I thought "oh crap, I just peed myself." Went back in the house to the bathroom and realized it was blood, and a lot of it. Like, totally drenched underwear, running down my leg (sorry if TMI). So totally freaked out I called my OBGYN on call on one phone and DH on the other to turn around. They obviously told me to head to L&D.

Get there and they hook me up to the NST. As soon as I heard that heartbeat I was so, so relieved. Baby is fine. Was moving and heartrate was good. They did an ultrasound and everything looked ok with fluid, placenta, baby, etc. Checked me and was only 1cm dilated (which I also was a few weeks ago). However, still having contractions (not sure if you remember from older posts with my NSTs but they have always detected them). Started IV fluids and made me rest. Then gave me procardia 40mg to stop the contractions which worked pretty well. Then, to be safe, gave me an IM injection of betamethasone to help baby's lungs in case he/she decides to come early.

After about 3 hours or so (I lost track) the doctor finally came in to see me. She said that she wants me on bed rest through the weekend, and to follow up back in the office on Monday. I tried to bargain with her a little, because I JUST negotiated my contract at work to work in the pharmacy 1 day a week instead of the university and I was supposed to work tomorrow. I called and switched the other pharmacist and doctor said as long as I rest all day today and tomorrow, I can do my pharmacy shift on Friday, provided I sit on a stool, don't lift, and drink tons of water. Then rest the rest of the weekend.

Basically she said we need to get me to at least 34 weeks or I can't deliver at my hospital and they'll have to ship me downtown to one with a higher level NICU. (32 weeks, 1 day today). She sent me home with a script for 20mg of procardia to take every 6-8 hours for at least the next 2 weeks and I have to give myself the second steroid injection tomorrow at noon.

I'm still having some light bleeding, but it's turned brownish now so I'm hoping it tapers off. I'm set up on the couch now with my computer and promise not to move the rest of the night!

It's just funny because a few weeks ago (maybe 2 or 3?) when I had contractions the other OBGYN in the group wasn't concerned at all. This one was much more cautious.

I asked what caused the bleeding and she said contractions can cause bleeding, and that blood is an irritant which in turn can cause contractions. They don't want the contractions to continue to soften my cervix and cause me to dilate.

I think that's it for now. Like I said, I truly appreciate all of the thoughts and kind words. You ladies are the best!!
