Elevated Prolactin

I just called my RE office to see if I was immune to Rubella because tomorrow I'm getting my chicken pox vaccine and figured I could get it all taken care of at the same time and I am immune so I am good. But the nurse said that my prolactin was high and they wanted to make sure I was fasting and didn't have any nipple stimulation or anything of any kind, which i didnt. It was 33 and they like to see it under 27 is what she told me. So I will be having that redrawn to double check.

Dr. google hasnt been much help, if my Prolactin is elevated does anything know what that might mean? or how its treated?

Oh, and I asked her about DH's SA and she said the results werent on the chart yet but she was going to look into them for me :)

    I had elevated prolactin.  I was put on some medication and within 3 weeks it was back down to the normal range.  I'm still on the medication because the elevated prolactin can cause some issues with ovulating.

                      - blood work: Estradiol: 32.7, FSH: 5.3, Prolactin: 14.1
    June 2014  - IUI #1, Clomid (150 mg), 3 follicles, Trigger shot - BFN 
    July 2014   - IUI #2, Clomid (150 mg), 4 follicles, Trigger shot - BFN
    Aug 2014   - IUI #3, Femara 2.5, 3 follicles, Trigger shot (first time done by DH!!) - BFN
                      - Hysteroscopy - Normal
    Sept 2014 - IUI #4 Femara 2.5, 1 follicle, possibility of another one, Trigger shot - BFN
                       -Progesterone test 4 DPIUI - 7.8...started crinone.
    Oct 2014 - IUI #5 Follistim 150 3 possibly 4 follicles - Trigger Shot - BFN
    Oct/Nov 2014 - Follistim 150 with TI & Trigger shot - ???

    My last bloodwork showed my Thyroid levels were high and so was my Prolactin. They said it goes hand in hand with the Thyroid level. It could mean a few things.


    TTC #1

    Me: AMA, DH: MFI

    Official DX - MFI due to Hemochromatosis

    IVF #1 Nov. 2014 - ER 11/10 (10R 6M 6F) - ET 11/13 

    3DT of 3 embies - no frosties - CP = BFFN!!!!

    If it's really high, it could mean a microadenoma (I think that's spelled right?), which is basically a benign tumor on your pituitary gland. Whether it is a tumor or not, the treatment is pretty much just medication. Mine was 101 so I had an MRI. The treatment was still just medication. Like PP said, it can impact ovulation.

    That's my primary diagnosis, so if you have any other questions you can page me or PM me. :-)

    9/2014 And now adding hypothyroid to the list- Started synthroid 9/2014
    Cycles 1-4 - Sept.-March- All Anovulatory 
    IUI #1 March/April-  Clomid 50mg + Clomid 100mg +Trigger + IUI #1 = BFN
     IUI #2 April/May-Clomid 100mg + Clomid 150mg + Trigger + IUI #2 + Endometrin=BFN
    IUI #3- June- Follistim 75iu + Trigger + IUI #3  Benched due to a 40 mm cyst. :-(
    IUI #3- July- Follistim 75iu + Trigger + IUI #3 + Endometrin = BFP! on 7/25/14
    Slowly rising betas - Ectopic suspected on 8/8/14 & confirmed on 8/11/14
    Methotrexate on 8/12/14 -HCG negative on 9/2/14
    IVF #1- November- Antagonist protocol: 11/1: start stims, 200iu of Follistim; 11/12 ER 17R/14M/14F; 11/17 5 day transfer of two blasts, 2 blasts and 2 expanding morulas frozen; 11/22 BFP!! (On FRER at 5dp5dt)
    Betas: 9dp5dt 205, 11dp5dt 497, 14dp5dt 1,709
    u/s at 5w0d- 1 sac; u/s at 6w0d 1 baby with heartbeat, another sac without a heartbeat

    I have hyperprolactinemia - the repeat test showed it at 60 something I think. MRI showed clear pituitary and I O like normal so RE is just ignoring it - he said there's a connection with autoimmune disease like Crohn's, which I have.

    If the number is higher there is a risk for macroadenoma on the pituitary (over 1cm tumor - always benign if I remember correctly), which is treatable by meds or at times surgery is needed. If the number is lower, typically it is caused by a microadenoma (less than 1cm tumor) or is just a byproduct of other issues. I've heard under 20 is normal, maybe your RE is comfortable within 27?

    Thanks ladies! I am hoping that it was a false positive but we will see when I retest.

    The nurse said that mine was only a little high that's why they thought it might be a false reading and that they like it under 27

    My first test was a similar number to yours so then I had to get a fasting prolactin test and it only dropped slightly.  But the Dr said the same thing, It's only slightly high so they just put me on this medication.  I'm asking if I should still be on it at my IVF consult this morning, so I'll let you know!

    I'm staying on the medication - my Dr likes having my prolactin in the normal range.  But I'm sure every Dr is different.

    My prolactin was slightly elevated and I was told that it could be because of exercise the day before. They re-tested me at CD12 and all was normal.
