Are you joining a mommy group?

DH keeps encouraging me to join Stoller Strides or a similar group for mommies and babies. I think it could be fun and help me to not feel so trapped and isolated like I do some days, but then again the thought of needing to be somewhere on time with a happy baby on a regular basis seems overwhelming. I'm interested to know if any of you have or are going to do something like this. How old was/is LO when you start? Any suggestions on making it work or interesting stories to share?
ETA: DS is 7w4d, we just moved so I don't know anyone here... thoughts?

Re: Are you joining a mommy group?

  • I highly recommend joining a mommy group- especially if you are new to the area. It's a great way to meet moms and make friends. It also is great to have activities to do when you stay home! I know I would go crazy if I didn't get out of the house daily. Also, ypu don't have to stress about getting somewhere with a happy baby- everyone is a mom and understands how babies/kids are :)

I love my moms group and have made some wonderful friends through it. Totally recommend!!!

  • My sister (a SAHM) joined a Stroller Strides and LOVE it. She just moved and already looked up one I'm her new area. She did warn me they're pretty hard core workouts though. She loved making friends and getting out with baby.
  • I'm desperate to join a mom group! And I wish we had a stroller strides group or something. I would do it. If baby just isn't having it done day, you can always skip the meeting. They're generally pretty relaxed.

  • I am interested in doing it but since I am self-employed and I am booked every weekday except some Mondays for 6 weeks starting in October it is going to be a while before I seriously consider one. I have a hard time meeting and making friends, but I just wont have time for a while. We will see how my schedule looks in January I think.

  • I do Mops and a moms group on meetup. Helps keep me sane.

  • I've been going to a BF support group. It's been nice to get out of the house and talk to other moms. But when I go back to work in November I won't be able to go

Thanks for the heads up about the workout! I think I will give it a try. I hope I can keep up!

My sister-in-law raves about her MOPS group. I went to one meeting and it was nice to meet with Moms. They only meet twice a month, so it is definitely attainable. MOPS is Mothers of Preschoolers (any one with kids from birth up)
  • I'm part of one through Meetup.  I joined when I became a SAHM.  I don't spend a lot of time with it, just playgroups once every few months, and sometimes activities like apple picking or stroller walks.  I haven't done much with them lately (being really pregnant, then a newborn....)

My group has fun activities like a Halloween and Christmas party though, we always go to them.

I've also met moms through my son's pre-school.  We met up at local parks a few times this past summer.

  • Our church just started a group called Moms Connect. I wanted to help get it started but then I got pregnant and now have a newborn. I plan on attending and eventually helping out with it. I do a women's Bible study through our church that meets weekly. I started doing that when I started being a SAHM. It is really nice as I get to have time with other women and DS gets to play with other kids.

I went to a MOPS group once last spring.

  • I have a little over six weeks of mat leave left and I'd totally consider it if the weather would calm down. I've spent the majority of baby's life inside in the air conditioning because we've been experiencing heat wave after heat wave and it's so uncomfortable, even getting him from house to car seat and driving anywhere. :-(

  • Yep. Through our church. I think it's $30.

  • I thought about stroller strides, but decided I have friends that I should be hanging out with more, the neighbors are pretty awesome and I will always meet new people through activities with C. Plus it was $70 I think? I would rather use that money elsewhere.
I have heard great things though.

  • I will be returning to work, but I wanted ways to get out of the house and also get him used to being out of the house since he'll start daycare soon. We started going to the library for songs and story time. I like it because it's not a commitment so I don't feel bad if we can't make it. But I've met a lot of other nice moms and dads, so that's a plus. I'd recommend some sort of group.

Is MOPS religuous? All the meetings near me are in churches. Just wondering :) Thanks.
From what I gathered it is "faith based" and is more of an empowerment of Mamas to be the best they can be.
  • @FrodaBaggins‌ it has been hot here for weeks and then this morning it was freezing! I wish it was just cool for a while!

@nobadwriting‌ that sucks there isn't one close to you.
