I thought clogged ducts and mastitis was something you got early after baby was born, but I've got a painful lump in one breast and spiked a low fever overnight and felt pretty miserable. Tylenol brought the fever down but my temp's going back up again now that it's wearing off, and I'm still definitely painful.
I know I should just call my doctor, but I'm hoping (denial anyone?) it's nothing. I was wondering if anyone who had been diagnosed with mastitis could comment on your experience, particularly how it started. I'm not super sick right now, but I wonder if I can do a wait-and-see or if I should address it before it gets worse.
Update: Thanks for the advice! The doctor's office couldn't get me in until Wednesday PM. However, I emailed the doctor directly and he rx'd antibiotics without seeing me. Not super ideal, but at least I can start the meds. My symptoms at this point are super obvious for mastitis--redness over a painful hot lump and fever.
Re: mastitis question - updated
Try to just grit your teeth and let your daughter keep nursing. It will help dissipate te infection. Or you can pump--if you don't like the idea of your daughter ingesting it (even though it won't hurt her). Either way, lots of fluids, lots of suction on that breast. And for sure immediate antibiotics so that you don't get an access that requires surgical drainage.
