Re: crafty mom's! what are you making?

  • The only things I have sewn for my kids are receiving blankets and car seat covers. I love doing car seat covers, and have been saving material for a few years if I ever finally have a girl.

  • Not baby related but I'm about to make a linen slipcover for an old but nice occasional chair. I also plan on painting our nursery dresser, making some seat and back cushions for our uncomfy rocking chair, and possibly doing Waldorf doll for DD for Christmas.

  • I may make a quilt but don't know yet it wont be until after we know the sex.  I just got stuff today to make cute little closet hangers to separate clothing by size (stolen off pintrest).  I may make some wall art and things but we will see as time goes on!

  • I've started refinishing some older family furniture that will look gorgeous in my vintage nursery (just doing a brown for gender neutral.) Also, blankets and burp cloths-I love to monogram ;) Once we find out what it is, I'm sure I'll find more things to make!

  • Crocheting booties, gloves and a receiving blanket, I'm very excited but first I have to reteach myself to crochet :)

  • Oh I'm also making a padded/quilted reversals slip cover for our headboard to close off the gaps and make it cozy. We picked out a crib to sidecar to our bed and when it arrives we will be rearranging the bedroom and making it baby safe.
  • For DS I made a carseat canopy out of some RealTree Camo fabric. It turned out awesome! I also made a minky cover for my boppy because the ones I had from DD were pink. Right now I'm working on matching quilts for DD's bunk beds. I originally purchased the fabric to make her a crib set, but ended up buying one because I never found the time to work on it. I've been working on these quilts for over a year and still have 95% of the actual sewing left. It is amazing how much time things can take with two toddlers underfoot, I used to be able to crank out a twin sized quilt in a weekend or two! A few weeks ago I did manage to make a teething cover for DS's crib rail since he had started trying to chew on it. I got that done during naptime!
  • I'm crocheting a blanket. I actually got my bfp right after I decided to get back into crochet.
  • I crochet but have lacked the desire. Maybe once we know boy or girl I will find something I want to make.
  • @EmileeandElliott‌ didn't I read on a post a while back that you were making a Tardis mobile?
  • I'm going to make a baby quilt when I find out the sex. Then around two years old I'll make a baby clothes quilt.

I can't remember if I posted it, but I am! A ribbon mobile with Tardis papercrafts. I'm still working on the ribbon part but the Tardises are next!
Holy cow do we love Dr Who at our house!
  • I'm working on jam wedding favors for my bestie's wedding. I finished the apple pie jam. Next up is fresh pumpkin. I need to get on it too. I only have two more weeks until the wedding. Nothing baby related at the moment. I'll wait until I know the sex and can start working on nursery stuff. I made dd an amazeballs butterfly mobile for her room. So, I need to do something equally as awesome for this one.

  • Currently working on DS's big boy room. I got the room painted today and tomorrow we will start putting it together. I have several projects to do for his room as we get it set up. Otherwise I have two baby blankets to sew this week for baby showers this week. No projects for LO yet, but I have started to brainstorm.

Yup. DS is Tommy Pickles! Nothing like living with an escape artist.
Just another cloth diapering, baby wearing mama.

  • About to start refinishing my vintage dresser for the nursery. Have to do it soon before it gets too cold so it will just be cream with gold handles.
  • I'll soon be making way more tie blankets than I or baby will need, but I do live in mn and you can never have too many blankets here!
  • I'm currently working on a crochet fall wreath. I'm holding off on baby stuff til I find out the sex. I have tons of pregnant friends right now too so lots of other babies to crochet for!!

Just started on a baby blanket so far. Once I finish that I'll likely start on hats and the mobile for the crib.

  • I've crocheted some baby hats. A lot, actually. I've made them gender specific. Many for each gender. I have had a bit of a baby boom with friends lately, add my two little buttons to be mix, and I think my fingers will fall off from all the tawny goodness! Once I know gender for mine, I'll pick a few favorites and give the others away. I'll also crochet some afghans, some props for newborn photos, then I'll likely sew some quilts. Whew! Then again, I may also just sit around, play with my 3 yo son and continue to dream about projects that may be unlikely to come to fruition. Ha!

  • I plan on crocheting a baby blanket and some booties at least.  also some chunky slippers for me.  I'd like to tackle something like a sweater for next fall/winter, but that might be above my talent level.  I should start now!

  • Well since I just finished up DS's bed.  I totally painted his bed to look like a monster and got fuzzy blankets and sewed spots on it.

Now on to baby stuff (even though I still have quilts to finish)  Bibs, burp cloths, Wall Art, I'm thinking about making my own wrap (saw a tutorial on pinterest) I'm sure I'll find other stuff to make as I get bored.  Looking forward to making all kinds of cute things.

  • I will knit a blanket when I find out the sex late November :) I made one for DS. It took forever but I love it!
  • @souptin‌ - I'm still pretty basic...

So crotch-it-ing blankets and sewing tshirt quilts it is!

I like crochet because it's 1 needle instead of 2 and once you learn the basic move, it's pretty simple to learn the double ones or skipping a stitch etc to make cooler designs.

I like tshirt quilts because, well, squares. I suck at picking out the in between fabric though. Usually grab a crafty looking lady at the fabric place and have her help/approve.

  • I will be doing a quilt after
I finish several other quilts for friends who are due much sooner. I am also looking into designing and building some interesting textural things to put on the wall once baby starts walking and maybe some play spaces and book shelves. I love Dr. Who too so maybe a TARDIS play house?
  • I'm making bumper pads, bed skirt, sheets, curtains, quilt... I love to sew! I've made all the baby bedding for both my sister and sister in laws DDs

I'll be crocheting a blanket, and then making a part of their coming home outfit.  I've made blankets for all my kids so far, and I did a jacket for my first, and a hat for my second.  With the first I also crocheted made baskets for his room, overalls, a second jacket, and the baptism outfit (which will be use for all siblings.)

I was going to include photos, but I can't seem to get them to work!
  • Side question - for those of you in warm weather, would a crocheted jacket be impractical?  My first nephew is due in January, and I'm trying to come up with a homemade gift for him, but they live the American Southwest, and my sister keeps going on about how its hot and she doesn't need a winter coat for the baby.

    Serious crafty question ladies,

I am pretty much anti-crafty, I can't draw a straight line with a ruler and would much rather eat the candy on a gingerbread house then painstakingly make a  civil war battle field replica using  sprinkles and and jube jubes

    HOWEVER,

I said to H last night-I feel like I should start crafting because you know, moms craft right?
I just don't know where to start....I tried knitting when I was a kid and it was disastrous so maybe crocheting?  (when ever I type that out in my head I pronounce it  crotch-it-ing)
Would any of you have suggestions of places to start for n00b crafters with low patience?
Ha. I was this this way until I was pregnant with DD and then suddenly it was all, make everything. In the year and half I have taught myself to crochet and knit with youtube videos. Crochet is much easier honestly.  Start with youtube for the basics and then find a pattern for something you like and go for it.

  • I know one crochet stitch, but it's so super tight I can't do anything useful with it. Even scarves end up too tight. *sigh* I would love to get more into it, but I do so many other crafty things that bringing yarn into the mix would probably drive my hubby insane. :) I haven't done anything for this baby yet, but I'm sure a few fleece tie blankets will happen at the very least. I actually just bought the fabric for a friend's blanket yesterday (have to get it done before the weekend).

Once we have an idea of how we are arranging DS and new baby (whether they'll share a room or not) I'll have some projects that go along with that. A dresser and toddler bed to refinish decorating with vinyl decals.... Etc.

As a side note, I lovelovelove pinterest, we should share usernames to follow each other there for ideas! Takers? I'm tbearsangel there too. :)

  • I tried knitting and I tried crocheting but never had patience or skill to keep going past the potholder. But I recently discovered Knooking and I can do this! I was a little confused but watching the YouTube tutorials got me through. I'm about four feet into a scarf for me and the next project will be a baby blanket.
  • I love to sew! I will be making crib sheets, bed skirt, curtains, boppy covers, bibs, burb rags, TONS of blankets of various sizes. I'm sure I will sew some clothes too. I've made tons of clothes for my 2 year old girls. I'm not sure what I will sew if its a boy though. We're supposed to get the results from the Harmony today. So, I'll be purchasing fabric very soon! I will probably get creative and figure out something for wall art too. I painted canvas for my 2 year old's bathroom.

Who knows what else I'll come up with. And for any of you that are doubting your crafting skills, I'm really not that crafty! Pinterest makes being creative extremely easy. I taught myself to sew with trial and error and youtube/pinterest tutorials. If I do something like painting, I use stencils!

  • I have a LONG list of things I want to knit for baby, but I seriously don't have the energy or motivation these days :( I'm hoping that once I make it through the first tri, I'll be more up for it.

I'm working on a cross-stitch wall hanging for the nursery.  We're going with an elephant theme, so it has elephants and the alphabet.  I adapted it from this Owl one I found.  The top row will have 2 elephants facing left, the middle with be elephants facing each other, making a heart with their trunks, and the bottom row will be be facing right.

  • I'm going to be making a baby rug next month. My kids and I made a painting using apple slices on canvas for the nursery! ☺️ It came out great!
  • I'm so jealous of all yku crafty people. The last two falls I tried knitting and each time I get to a potholder size and just give up. I just don't get it.
