Walking out the baby

I was having a lot of contractions today and some felt like the real deal but weren't consistent. Sooo hubby my son and I went for a walk and I got 4 that were 1 min long and within 10 min apart each! But alas I had to go home to pee and my feet were killing me. Got home and bam they stopped :( hopefully the ones I had at least were progressive.

  • Ohhh yes I'm ready much more uncomfortable this time around. Of course she will come when she is ready but some encouragement can't hurt

  • I've been Going for walks a lot recently being 38 weeks with my induction day fast approaching I really want her to come on her own time. It's seems like you have so many contractions and nothing is happening :(

I walked at a good pace for an hour on Friday and NOTHING. I mean, it's fine, I was just walking because a friend invited me and it's not time for this one to come out yet, but I thought I'd feel something!

I guess I've just never seen people eagerly encourage their LOs into the world pre-EDD before.
You've never heard of someone trying to go into labor before their edd? I've never heard of someone who wasn't trying at least a little bit. Walking can help if baby is ready but if baby isn't, it won't make you go into labor.
Not eagerly encouraging or doing things in an attempt to cause labor when they are not even 39 weeks.  At least not prior to TB.

  • Lol yeah when I said encourage the baby to come it wasn't like I decided to run a marathon. More like walk up to the park. I'm not doing anything drastic. I was getting contractions all day and noticed more of a pattern when I'm active so thought hey let's go for leisure walk and they did get more consistent. Wow still running! Massively impressed! You are my hero.

  • I remember with my first someone told me chocolate or spicy food could help get labor started. I figured I liked both and if it helped get labor started it was an added bonus. It didn't work but both tasted good! I've tried almost all of the old wives tales to get labor started except sex (It was way too painful that far along) and castor oil (there were too many risks). Nothing worked for me.
  • I am walking some too but ob because I am going to be induced due to GD and want to avoid an emergency c section. If they were going to let me get to 40 or past I wouldn't be so eager.

But I understand being uncomfortable but each day the level is different. I find the weekends are better as I get to rest more. Not looking forward to work today.

Kudos to all the women still running!
  • I WISH I could run...well, let's be real--jog...or at least walk faster than equivalent to 3.8 on the treadmill. I never go too far on the dog walks because of my damn bladder--I can't wait to be normal again!

This exactly.  I've never known anyone IRL who wasn't doing at least a little bit, like walking, to try and urge baby along by 38 weeks.
Yup.  I spent so much time bouncing on a pilates ball from 38 weeks on with DD, it was ridiculous.  Spicy food.  Pineapple.  Foot massages.  As much walking as I could handle.  Sex.  But alas, she was still a week late and required a c-sec to force her out.  I really wanted her to arrive before September 1, even though her EDD was the 9th.

I'm still running and baby is still staying in there. They come when they are ready, which is exactly how it should be. It does sound like your body is getting ready, OP.
How is this even physically possible????

    I'm impressed.
Thanks. It's a lot slower now than pre pregnancy but I find that it actually keeps aches and swelling away so I've tried to keep it up.

On the issue of trying to get baby to come early

You have to remember some of us are already half way done with week 38. Oct 1 is 10 days away. So if you are due Oct 1 then you are 3 days away from 39 weeks.

plus lots and lots of moms try to walk to encourage dilation, softening and effacement... not necessarily to go into labor right now but make labor easier. There are lots on people in the safe zone now.

You are in the "safe zone" but there is a reason that generally pregnancy is 40 weeks +/-. And yes 37 weeks is term, but it's not "full" term. You can have a premature baby before 40 weeks, btw. And it's uncomfortable for everyone at this point, but trying to rush the baby out is stupid, IMO.

    ----

I didn't say anything about me doing anything to get the baby out and yes I am 37 weeks. I said some people are almost 39 weeks already and IN their 38 week now. If you are due 10/1 that is 38w5d today so I am pretty sure they can get to walking now.

my ass doesn't even like walking to the kitchen!
  • "hopefully the ones I had at least were progressive."

I assumed you meant progressive as in to labor @Ravenbaby, hence the "why are you rushing the baby out" comment.

The judgey tone of this thread... She's not hurting anything by taking a walk. Short of sipping castor oil, harmless natural induction methods after you've reached full term are just part of the experience, right? I think we may have found our very last UO.

Come on, lady's. Mondays are hard enough.

I'm not surprised by the tone at all. I'm going with the generic "blame it on the hormones" excuse! I know I'm more of a notch lately ;)
I'm fighting the urge to post a rainbow gif.

I'm not sure anyone said she was hurting anyone by taking a walk - many of us walk & exercise everyday, and obviously that isn't hurting anyone or anything.

Not sure if I'm more of a notch lately, or if I just have little patience left.

WOWZA lady. Progressive as in dilation and effacement. Weird how I hope that my contractions were progressive because otherwise all the pain is just a bag of fun. My last labor was only 5 hours total because I had so many contractions weeks prior to going into labor. Which I have a lot of contractions whether I am going for a walk or not. Going on a walk isn't going to MAKE me go into labor if the baby isn't ready and I fully understand  that do you? Pretty sure I ALSO mentioned the baby will come when she is ready. You are taking things WAY too seriously woman

Pretty sure that no one is taking it seriously, it's just the start of the annoying, "what can I do to make the baby arrive before 40 weeks". So, if you want to post this and then back off what you were saying, go right ahead.

Oh and--> yeah thanks, I've had a kid, I get that that walking doesn't make you go into labor. Do YOU get that getting all whiney about contractions stopping/starting at 38 weeks is annoying?

  • I would like to own up that my previous comment on this thread is not helpful, and this one is not either, because I read the whole thing, and I don't know what is going on or how I should feel, other than keep on walkin', momma.
