Pump Drop Off

I've been pumping and nursing since my return to work in June.  All was going well until about August, my pumping amount went from 16-20 oz to 8 oz.  All of a sudden this week, I've been pumping 1-2 oz per day.  I'm trying not to stress about it.  Drinking Mother's Milk tea, taking Fenugreek, even tried a few beers, nothing.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

Thanks!

Re: Pump Drop Off

  • What pump are you using? Have you replaced the membranes if you have a Medela? There's also a chance AF is returning but 1-2 oz seems like there's something wrong with the pump.

  • Yes to all the pps said, membranes make a big difference! Also, how are your flanges/sheilds fitting? I found after EPing for about 1.5 months my output dropped a bit (not as much as you are experiencing) and I noticed pumping was getting a bit uncomfortable. I bought a new set of shields in the next size up and my output actually INCREASED. Your breasts can adjust as time goes in, so you might need a new size shied.

  • I have new tubing that I started using this week and bought new membranes today.  We'll see how my pumping goes tomorrow.  I don't link I need a different size in the shields, I looked at the instructions and it appears that they still fit properly.  When baby nurses he appears content, there are times when he has to eat from both sides.  He is also eating solids too.  I will look into the functioning of my pump, seems normal to; I will also look into renting a hospital grade pump.
