Anyone care to dummy down SPD?

I know this has probably been talked about and I could search on my laptop if the thought of moving didn't terrify me, but it does and I'm not moving.

The front of my pelvis and my entire vaginal region hurts so badly. It's even swollen. It hurts to put pants on, bend over, do most activities, walk, carry my son, and on and on. It's been Like this for about 2 weeks but it wasn't this bad at my last appointment on Tuesday, and I forgot to mention it to my doctor.

To those of you that have or had SPD, is it late to be developing this? I just can't imagine what else it would be after searching online. I never felt like this with my son and knowing I have 21 days left makes me want to cry.

ETA - this is a probable post and run since I'm about to crash.

  • Yup I called my dr about the pelvic pain and stabbing sensations to my vag with every step. I was told it's 3rd tri and to take some Tylenol n a warm bath. Not much else to be done. Sorry you're hurting!

  • I'm right there with you. I've had this off and on since about 25 weeks, but constant since at least 35 weeks. I find anytime I stay in one position too long - changing it up hurts. The worst is rolling over in bed. My doc didn't have much advice either, except putting a heating pad between my legs.
  • I've had this since about 18 weeks along. Some days worse than others. It sounds like you are probably just experiencing end of pregnancy symptoms. Second time around things loosen up more/quicker. I wouldn't really call it SPD so late in pregnancy, just normal relaxin being released. SPD is usually much earlier on.

  • It happens when your pelvis separates too fast.

you typically hear a crunching or popping region when walking.  What you are describing sounds more like to me the Relaxin releasing and your RLP letting go.... It hurts pretty bad also

SPD is excruitaing and hurts constantly. I always say it feels like a steel toe boot to the crotch and you can usually feel the split in the front.

This is a great way to describe it.  I've had it with all 4 pregnancies, and it shows up a little earlier each time.  I've been dealing with it since around 24ish weeks.  My pelvis pops (omg, kill me) when I roll over, or occasionally when I'm walking, and I can feel a sizable gap in the front.

  • Thanks ladies.

I do have popping when I stand up, it's constant and nothing seems to make it better. I never once felt this way last time, not even the night before going into labor. I'm going to talk to my doctor on Tuesday if I can wait that long.

at this point they will recommend a maternity belt, tylenol and say "its just 3rd trimester pain" most likely.

if your first was a csection the pain can also be caused by head pressure on your incision.
  • I have a lot of pelvic pain when I first move. It gradually loosens up. I wear a support belt and it doesn't help. My Dr told me to lay on my side as much as I can and that relieves the pressure for a while. She said it tends to get worse with each pregnancy. She also suggested standing in a pool. I don't know if this is an option for you. Good luck!
  • Sorry you are in so much pain! I too developed it during this pregnancy although I didn't have any signs of it with DS. Unfortunately, not much we can do at this point but just know it is normal! Last week I had 3 days of hardly being able to move because I felt like my pelvis was going to break in two. Luckily, it's much better, but it's definitely annoying and it can be painful at times.

  • From what I've read and experienced its best not to sit in a reclining chair. Try to do pelvic tilt exercises, sit on a birthing (exercise) ball, sit backwards on a regular chair, don't cross your legs. And go see a chiropractor. I've been seeing one once a week for the past month and it's been amazing for my back and pelvic pain. Oh and of course drink lots of water and go to the bathroom often, it's always worse with a full bladder.
