I'm an AF wife and my hubby just went tdy for 6 weeks...altho I feel awful complaining when so many deploy for waaay longer. Missing my family too, but at least we're on a good base and have great mil fam up here. Anyone else in a similar boat?
Im an AF wife as well. My husband went TDY yesterday for a whole day and half. He is doing a staff job right now so he is going TDY frequently but only for a few days at a time. He is 8 years older than me so he did most of his deploying before we got married. I feel blessed to have him home as much as I do. I hope these six weeks go quick for you!
DoD civilian wife here and I have dealt with a couple TDY's. It sucks. I am hoping we'll avoid that while I'm PG. GL to you! There is a great military spouse support board on The Nest (at least it was great when I was active on it a few years ago)
I'm AF and an AF wife.. (don't shun me!). No upcoming TDYs for either of us, but we did spend the first year of our marriage apart while he did a short tour. Not fun, but you sure learn a lot.
Hi, I have a question for the ladies who's husbands are or have been gone for large portions of the pregnancy.
My husband and I found out we were expecting our first a week before he left for deployment. He is in the navy, and will be gone until February. I guess that I am nervous that while I see the changes every day and feel like I'm becoming more of a mom each day, that he is not experiencing this. I try to keep him updated on the size and any symptoms I am having. Skype hasn't been working the best for us, but we viber and email.
Any suggestions on ways to help him feel more involved and to help him feel more dadlike? I've thought about getting a daddy book, but didn't know how helpful that would be.
Thanks, and thank you or your significant others for serving! Best wishes for you all and that you all have safe and wonderful pregnancies!
@ash10rombough the best thing you can do right now is document everything! Take tons of pictures, and make sure he feels included in the decisions. A daddy book would probably be a good idea.
@mollymsalyers that would be lovely! Thank you! If you don't mind. I would just rather find one that people have good experiences with rather than spend $15 for something not useful and that he won't read.
AF wife here! Stationed at Cannon. We're expecting our first.
AF wife here, we just left Cannon for Yokota AB Japan. He actually volunteered to go to Kunsan, S. Korea, for a year so we could get out of there. If your able, eat some Leals brisket tacos for me, soo good!
I'm a marine wife. Stationed in okinawa, Japan. Ugh so far from family and friends in the states. But th hubby won't be deploying unless something crazy happens. Probably will be gone for 2 weeks in the field at the end of October.
My husband is in the army and deployed the day we found out I was pregnant. He is deployed for a year. We are based out of fort hood. This is our first child and sucks he can't experience any of it.
I'm a Coastie wife. My husband is on a small boat so his time underway is a lot less. I was standing waiting to check out at my OB last week and overhead them telling the lady in front of me how much it was going to be for her to deliver based on her insurance.
I was really really thankful for Tricare at that point!
AF wife here! We are stationed at the academy:) my hubs has a TDY planned on my due date (April 30th) no a happy camper since this is our first. Hoping things change as they can in the military and he goes sooner than that. Good luck to all of you!
Both of us are active duty army! This is our first and I think I'm gonna take the Chapter 8. (Getting out because of baby) And he only has a year left too. So done with the ridiculousness of the military! This might be hormones but I HATE THE ARMY!!!!!
@bstrenn It's beautiful out there, and I've been dying for some Noodles and Co or AI's Hibachi. Hopefully he can get that TDY changed. Have y'all announced yet?
@zoeysims We are dual mil too, AF. Sorry you're frustrated with the Army right now
@epidemic no we have not announced our pregnancy yet. Well we have only told a few people but won't announce to our families until 13 weeks. Still one more month. Hope it flies by! Yes, love CO and all its restaurants:)
I'm a Marine wife. My DH was gone the first 16 months of our marriage. It was really hard but once u can get through something like that you can do anything! And once those 6 wks are up you appreciate him being around even more than b4.
AF wife here (it feels weird to say that for whatever reason, lol), stationed at Cannon, 2nd baby, husband is deployed and won't be back for almost half a year.
I am an army wife and my husband was just gone for two weeks and back for 5 days to leave for another two weeks. Luckily he got to make it to the first appointment but will now be missing the next three because of training schedules. At least he isn't deployed though!
Not a wife but my dad is currently in Afghanistan. This is his 6th deployment. At least this one is only for 9 months. Before they changed that, he would be gone for up to 2 years. I'm thankful for the technology now.
When he was in Desert storm there was NO wifi there. You got a call once a week if you were lucky & letters.
