The Magic Suit

After waking up every 45 minutes last night the suit has arrived today and I'm hoping it's magic!! I know some of you are using them or have used one. For those who are trying for the first time what do you think? Anyone not have a good experience with theirs?

Good luck! I was debating btwn this and the zipadeezee suit. Ordered the zip (not here yet) bc DD has started to roll and think the Merlin suit would have been more helpful to us about a month ago. Hmmm we'll see!
Good luck tonight! Let us know how it goes!
  • LOVE IT! We just got it a few days ago and last night was our second night. LO goes right to sleep and sleeps much more soundly than he did with the simple swaddle. He used to kick his legs up in the air half the night all night (a nuisance since he is still in the co-sleeper), but he completely stopped in the suit. He still wakes up 2x/night to eat, but he is EBF so that's probably part of it; I know he is genuinely hungry because he eats a lot both times. The biggest bonus for me is the morning. He used to wake around 4:30 - 5:00 and switch off between nursing, sleeping and fussing until about 6:30 and then be up for the day. The last two nights after his 4:30 - 5:00 wake up, he does one good feed and then sleeps solidly until 7:30 - 8:00. Just the morning change has made such a big difference for me!

We have the zippy because DS can roll now and he puts himself to sleep every night! I love that thing! The magic suit just looked way to bulky so we didn't get it and I'm glad we didn't because DS just started rolling and that would have been a waste! Good luck!
  • She slept 3 hours and didn't wake. 30 min after putting her down for bed like she has been. I haven't gotten 3 hours in weeks. I'll take it! I put her in her rock n play after but got worried and moved her back to her crib. She normally would of woke up right away and she did wake a little and stirred in her crib but out herself back to sleep. She NEVER puts herself to sleep! I can't sleep now because I'm so used to being up. Loving it so far. I did read(for those who are worried about rolling) that even kids who can roll often won't be able to in the suit but if by chance they do more than once you are supposed to transition out so I totally get why you wouldn't want to spend the money if LO is rolling already but I don't see her being able to roll in this thing for a while. It reminds me of the little boy on a Christmas story who falls in the snow and can't get up lol. Well better try and sleep. I will post again tomorrow morning :)

  • Last night went really well with 3 hour sessions instead of 2 and she went right down the first time instead of 10 times later. She also didn't wake up at 4 and stay up. I love that it helps with her reflex because it helped her stay asleep and when she did wake she put herself back to sleep unless she was hungry. Hoping for another good night. She is taking a nap in it now and she usually has woken up by now or won't go down. It didn't take me long at all to get her down. Oh and she slept in her crib all night. :)

  • It was really magic for us! LO sleeps in his crib and through the night since we got it!
  • @lica001‌ how did it go? Last night she slept 5 hours straight and she put herself to sleep. I couldn't believe my eyes. I bounced and fed her and thought she was out but when I laid her down she woke up so I walked out for a bit and was going to get her if she started crying well 5 min later she was out. She moved a little and talked a few times then fell asleep.

  • Hmm I wish I knew to buy this a month ago. LO will be rolling very soon so I'm bummed because he is constantly waking himself up with his legs. What is the difference between the zippy and a sleep sac?

  • @caycelee‌ it might be worth a try if you can call and get one half off. I don't see her rolling in this thing even when she can roll. Her arms stick straight out. They make them for 6-9 month olds too.

  • @Hbird05‌ she looks happy!! I'm going to look into it because even if I get one week of good sleeping I will be ecstatic!

  • It was $26 for mine because I got one that was returned from Amazon and washed it. I figured it's no different then second hand stores we shop at. She gets really calm in it. she hates putting her arms in anything but after that she is so calm.

I went for the zip suit because of the rolling thing too...  but i still might order the magic suit, especially because I'm planning on having a second baby.  Boy the yellow is a lot brighter than I thought though!   I wish they had more colors.

Still waiting on my Zip suit and I'm getting anxious.   I'll let you know how it goes.  LO is really hating the swaddle and is fighting her way out of it each night.  She's rolling too which makes me worry she'll roll onto her face and not have her arms to help push her face up.

Glad it seems to be helping you@hbird05
  • @KellyQ116‌ I think the yellow just looks very bright in that pic. We have the yellow, too, but it is a pale yellow. This shows the shade a little better I think. The other bonus is they are so stinkin' cute in the puffed up suits. We call DS marshmallow baby.

  • @Hbird05‌ it went great, DD slept 6 hours straight! Then 2, then 3. She almost put herself to sleep too, was lying down calmly for 10min with minimal fussing but right as her eyes rolled back and she was almost asleep she started screaming, so I ended up nursing and she was out in 1min.

@becole42‌ we had the regular woombie before but took DD out when she started rolling. Since your LO rolls already you won't be able to use the convertible arms in, so really won't help with the startle reflex. DD can roll back to side and front to back, but no way she can roll in the Merlin suit yet.

  • @becole42 I actually bought the Small.   I haven't weighed LO since her 2 month appt so I sure hope she isn't over 18 pounds!   I'll find out on Friday!

Small: (2-6 months old): 12-18lbs for babies up to 28 inches tall
  • I'll warn everyone that my baby is still too small for it, so if you have a tiny kid, it might not work for you. She's 4 months on Saturday and hasn't been weighed in a month but I'd guess she's between 12-13 lbs. Her legs just hang around the middle. I'm holding out hope it works for us soon.

Thanks- the website was saying something about medium for the close fit and then move to large- kinda like a two- step transition. Keep me posted on what you think @KellyQ116‌

Guess I was hoping she'd go from the swaddle, to the Zip suit to regular pjs. I'm not planning on sizing up but we'll see
  • My Merlin's magic suit just got lost in the. How the hell does that actually happen?! I was able to get a full refund and in the meantime ordered a zipadeezip. I'll try it first and when I've calmed down/if or doesn't work I'll reorder another Merlin. :-w
  • Night 2 in the Merlin sleep suit, not so magic anymore. DD was up every 2 hours again. Let's hope tonight goes better.

Merlin suit definitely doesn't battle sleep regression wakings for me at all.

This is our first night but that is my experience as well. I'll try again another night, but for tonight I'm switching back to the swaddle blanket. It's too hard getting him in and out of it for the little to no improvement that I'm seeing in sleep.

  • The Zip suit arrived but wasn't done in the dryer by bedtime. So we went Cold Turkey out of the swaddle. Just jammies! She had a harder time falling asleep on her own and flipped over onto her tummy and fussed a bit. We put her back on her back and and finally drifted off. She made it 8:30-4am wo waking! Went right back down after the 4a feeding too. She's been doing at least 2 wakeups a night so I count this as a success!
  • We've had a few successes with letting him babble himself back to sleep, but the past few nights, he's needed to eat with each waking.

Does anyone nurse with the baby still in the Merlin?   My baby always hated nursing while swaddled, so I didn't even try it.  Maybe I will tonight.

  • @QOTR‌ I nursed twice in the Merlin no problem. She had a huge fit and I had to take her out of it at 4:30 but otherwise it was fairly successful. Going to try it out through the weekend and see how it goes. Her first stretch was nearly 5 hours which is awesome for us.
  • @QOTR We always nurse in the Merlin. He nurses to sleep in it and throughout the night - no problems for us.

  • Thanks ladies.  That makes more sense.  I'll try it that way tonight for sure.  I was worried about him overheating from my body heat plus the suit, but it can't hurt to try.

  • I've actually enjoyed the Merlin for nursing because I have trouble holding her the same in one side but with it she doesn't seem to mind. I agree about it being easier ringer her down in it because she doesn't feel my every move. Last night she slept from 6:45-3 then 5 and 6:30 wakings. She was still yelling out at her other times she was waking 12,1,4 but she went back to sleep. I'm always afraid to wait too long because if she wakes up all the way then it's so hard getting her back down but I need to start waiting to see if she goes back to sleep. I used to do that when she slept in our room because I couldn't see her so I would wait like 5 minutes to see if she was really up but now that I can see her on the monitor I just assume she's all the way awake because her eyes open and I don't always give her a chance. Thanks for the tip @bunannie‌

  • @QOTR I nurse DD in the Merlin too. Side lying on the bed since she sleeps in the cosleeper. Taking her in and out of it in the night would wake her up way too much. Since it's so annoying to put on.

  • After all these posts I caved and ordered Merlin. I don't know why I've been so nervous about it. It's probably going to be magical. Counting down until Sunday. Thanks Amazon Prime.
  • Update: we have been up every 45 min to a hour since 9:30 (usually she doesn't wake until at least 11:30 or midnight) I am very disappointed with this zip suit. Oh well I'll try it for a few more days but my hopes are not high for sleep. Happy sleeping to all.

  • Thanks @QOTR‌ :)
LO is still up for her 4am feeding but a little earlier. Honestly don't see much of a difference in this thing than pjs. Does seem like she won't get her foot caught between crib posts as much. And hands stay warm. But as far as squelching any startle reflex I think the Merlin suit would be better for that.
    Sorry @Deems83‌ ! That's rough!!
  • @Deems83‌ don't give up after one night. It's a transition from swaddling it takes times just like anything else. Honestly the first night we used it it was a crapshoot too. Night two he only woke up once. We used it for two weeks and guess what. We are on night 5 of just footie jammies! Yes! He sometimes gets a little irritated but I go in a shoosh him for a few secs and he's out! Keep trying it will happen!
  • @THD7580‌ thank you, will keep trying. We weren't swaddling, she was in rnp and then a month ago we transferred to crib. First 2 weeks she slept but now last 3 weeks she's up all night so in desperation I bought the zippy hoping it will get better.

  • Well the Merlin suit didn't help much last night. I'm so tired of this sleep regression!!! I'm sure she would of been up even more if she didn't have it but sheesh! Go to sleep girl!
