Question regarding placenta

in March 2015 Moms
Currently 15 weeks and it appears the placenta is below the baby. The dr. says that a lot of the time the placenta will move out of the way, but if not the baby cannot be born through it, which would result in a c-section!
I was just curious if any of you wonderful ladies have experienced this and if the placenta moved on it's own?

    It's called Placenta Previa.  I had it with my son and I have it with this one.  With my son it had moved away by 24 weeks.  With this one I'm hoping it's away by the a/s at 18-20 weeks.  Yes, most of the time they move.  Sometimes they don't.

    I had it with my daughter. It actually resulted in a really scary bleeding incident which landed me in the hospital for a week and then on bedrest for 5 weeks. But, happy ending, it moved and I was able to have a healthy birth.

    I have this as well. In most cases the placenta moves up on its own.Your doctor will work with you on planning, what to expect, any restrictions, etc. if you advance into late 2nd/ 3rd trimester without placental movement. Another post about this titled "placenta previa" was already started earlier today, you may find some answers there too.

    @nomnommama‌ That is very scary! That is what worried me the most. The doctor mentioned that there could be heavy bleeding and told me to stay away from sex. This is my first pregnancy so I wasn't too sure what to expect from it. So happy that it resulted in a healthy birth for you though!

    Strange, I was told nothing about not having sex either time.  I also didn't experience any bleeding although I do know it can cause it.  I actually had a lot of bleeding during the birth because it was still low lying, but nothing alarming (at least the nurse didn't seem alarmed).

    Also of everyone I know who's had placenta previa only one has ever not had it move away by the birth.  So I wouldn't spend time worrying about it until much later!

    @JCWhitey‌ Yeah I was a bit thrown off at the "absolutely no sex until the next ultrasound shows movement". She did tell me that it could cause heavy bleeding, so maybe she is just trying to prevent it.
    BUT I have been wondering if it would be terrible of me (and exactly how dangerous it is) to have sex with my fiancé, even just once every now and then. My next ultrasound is not until October 22nd, and well..that seems SO far.

    I would practice caution OP and consider those positions which allow controlled and shallower penetration--I'm assuming your doctor's concern has to do with nudging the cervix since the placenta is right over it and that MIGHT cause tiny tears.  To be noted my doctor mentioned no restrictions and just said we'll check again at 20wks.  BUT I have no spotting!

    @bdazzld‌ Thank you for the wonderful suggestion. I also have not experienced any spotting, or any out of the norm cramps. And before that apt my fiancé and I had sex (sorry if TMI-but nothing crazy because we've been trying to be careful anyway) and I never experienced any spotting after, so I am sure it would be fine. I was just a little alarmed after her restriction and didn't know if it would be terrible of me to participate in every now and then!

    They saw my placenta low lying when I had my sono in August at 12 weeks. I was told to go on pelvic rest (no sex, no orgasms, no stimulation, no heavy lifting) until my next sono. This seemed all ok until I realized my next sono wasn't until the end of...wait for it....OCTOBER (yes, I used caps to emphasize how far away any sex was). I had really really bad morning sickness which was just letting up around my 12 week appointment and me and my SO did not really partake in activities during that time. We planned to get it on after the appointment...then a big fat no sex was said. Complete and utter torture. Since I wasn't bleeding and no cramping we did end up having sex that night because tension was just a little bit high. We have also had sex one other occasion since then and were really careful. Breaking the pelvic rest was something I felt comfortable with as long as it's spaced out. I still have one more month to go and might have sex one more time depending on how I feel.

    Yeah... I have a relatively healthy sex life.  Never had an issue or any bleeding with either pregnancy.  I'd be interested to see if there may also be an issue with your cervix that your doctor is concerned about?  Did they say anything besides placenta previa?

    @JCWhitey‌ No ma'am! She actually said everything was looking perfect, and then mentioned the only thing she noticed was the placenta. She didn't seem too concerned about it either. It was just when she said absolutely no sex that got my mind wondering!

    Well I figured once or twice was going to be ok. I have had my random orgasm dreams and have been fine so I just went for it. Worth it with all the stress.

    Mine was undiagnosed, so the bleed was the first sign i had of it. They missed it at my anatomy scan and then I started gushing blood one afternoon at 24 weeks. It was terrifying. But mostly because I thought I was miscarrying. My DD was totally fine through the whole thing. I got to the hospital and they did an ultrasound and she was just swimming around happily.
