3rd Trimester

Tired

So I've been taking something to help me sleep and getting at least 8 hours a night if not more.  I'm still tired! Like first trimester can barely keep my head up tired.  Anyone else feeling this way?

Re: Tired

  • That's pretty common in the third trimester. Growing/nourishing a baby is hard work, and it makes your body tired. I've heard the trimesters of pregnancy summarized as "Three months dreary, three months cheery, three months weary." Sleep as much as you can, but realize that all the sleep in the world might not make you feel rested. Regular (moderate) exercise and eating healthy foods can help some, but it's not ever going to completely get rid of the tiredness.

  • I am feeling the same way!  I can't sleep for longer than an 1 1/2 at a time since I'm up to use the bathroom that often.  And my hips are so achy that everytime I switch sides it hurts!

  • What kind of sleep-aid are you taking?  Could that be contributing to your tiredness?  I take 1/2 a Unisom after work to help me sleep during the day (I work 12 hr night shifts) and I don't have that groggy feeling when I wake up, but I know some of my co-workers take a different kind, or take more than I do and they are always dragging and groggy when they wake up.

It's totally normal in the 3rd tri to be extra tired though.  I find myself dozing off in the middle of the day while DD is napping.  Maybe it's worth a try to try a different sleep-aid, or take half of what you're currently taking and see how you feel.

  • It's normal, I'm always exhausted. I'm beyond ready for him to come, even though I know I'll be even more tired trying to take care of a 2 1/2 year old and a newborn!
