We picked the name Lucas for our son so DH could say "Luke, I am your father". We thought it was hilarious so we're sticking with it. His family wants baby to be a jr. DH is his dad's jr and only boy. As our son will be. I said no.
So DH and a few others suggestions for middle names are: Skywalker Anakin Maximus Leonidas Zeus Darth Talon Kobe Bazinga Sheldon Sephiroth Vader Hans Sky Walker Tyberious Ulrich
There are more video game ones that DH suggested but I won't bother you with those. Nobody will give me serious middle name suggestions!! (
We thought about using his middle name. Charles. And my cousin's dog is named Charlie. I've warmed him up Benjamin. He also reads the Star Wars books and Luke's son is named Ben. So there's still a nerd connection there for him. He's ridiculous.

Owen would be good for sticking worth the star wars theme, too. Lucas Owen sounds nice to me.
My husband's first girl name suggestion was Hyacinth. *shudder* When I told my mom the girl name we had chosen, she didn't like it and suggested Melody instead. That just makes me think of the Babysitters Club.
Ha, OMG, @MrsRoy07 -- Hyacinth is my confirmation name. Let me provide more context: I was not raised in a Catholic family, but my parents wanted to send me to Catholic school to keep me out of the terrible public schools, and tuition was cheaper if you were a member of the parish. So they baptized me (baptism name, btw? Anne) at 5, and I went to parochial school for the next 10 years. So I'm "Catholic" but not really, because no one in my family was reinforcing it (my parents just dropped me off at church starting at 7 or 8 and would pick me up an hour later).
So when I was in 7th grade and all the 7th and 8th graders were going through Confirmation, the whole thing honestly meant nothing to me except that I'd get a cool new name and it didn't have to be boring Anne. The only restriction was that it had to be a saint's name, so I went looking through books of saints, and found St. Hyacinth, who is a 3rd Century male Polish saint. I loved the smell of the flowers and I was a pre-teen girl who just thought the name was SOOOO pretty, and hey, no one in my family particularly cared, let alone knew enough to advise me otherwise.
So Hyacinth I became. I'm sure I got some priest/nun side-eye from it, but I remember being super excited!
All that to say: I have a really good association with the name, but then again, I know absolutely no one with it as a real name, so it's kinda the same to me as, like, Pollux or Artemis, or some other name from mythology/religion.

I had a hippy dippy coworker suggest a bunch of names at me (we were definitely not engaged in what I would term a give-and-take conversation) when I was pregnant with my daughter. I don't remember them all, but I definitely remember Wren. Yes, Wren. I'm sure Wren is a lovely name for some little girl... but not mine.
Our surname, which we chose ourselves when we got married, is already a little "whoa, cool name" on its own (hilariously, it's already been mentioned in this thread!), so I definitely don't think we could get away with a name that's too offbeat to go with it.
@jennypolkadots I love your names! My good friend was in love with the name August for her son but had a big decision to make, because he was born in August, and she didn't want people to think that's why he was named that. Turns out, she loved it so much anyway that she just did it, and that boy simply IS an August. Half the time they call him Gus, which I find to be really adorable too.
@lilybug319 I know a little boy named Anakin. Seriously. I'm good friends with his uncle, and my friend and everyone else in the extended family calls him Nick...

My DH refers to our baby as Sean Thomas. Now that is not a bad name except our last name starts with a D so that would give our son the initials STD. Because it makes me crazy, he keeps talking to my belly and calling him Sean Thomas. Needless to say, he will not have that name.
Girl: Selphie - From Final Fantasy Delphine - From Skyrim Amity - The faction from Divergent Clove - From Hunger Games Glimmer - From Hunger Games Kairi - From Kingdom Hearts Vanellope - From Wreck It Ralph

They were adamant that our child should have the most unique name possible, and some of the names they suggested were alright, but these were just much too much!
On another note, I didn't know Mae was so unliked. It makes me sad, but not sad enough not to use it. It was my great grandmother's, grandmother's, great aunt's (to whom I was very close), and it is my little sister's middle name. I love it, and it will be our middle name choice if we have a girl. And despite the fact that the names "Brook" (for a guy) and "Mae" are in the family, we are very much northerners (Yankees to some, but I can't get behind that bc by north I mean Boston).
I am definitely considering Mae for the middle name if I have a girl as well. It was my grandma's middle name.
Oh, this reminds me! My husband's suggestion for a boy was Ambrose. I have a few logistic objections, but I also pointed out that we're consummate nicknamers, and would we really want to call a kid Bro all the time? Broseph! BroBro! Bromingo! (don't ask why, but I just know we would do it.)

For my first, we needed names that started with "E" and "F" (to name after my grandmothers). I was so nervous we'd have a boy, because the only name with those letters I could think of was Elmer Fudd! Luckily we had a girl and she has a pretty name that fits both letters
@HerHighness as a Susan born in the late 70's, can I tell you how many times I was called Sarah instead??
This is hysterical mostly because i was called Susan alll the time. Most by my grandma or my teachers in school. My mother name is Susan (and since she had me super young i had a lot of the same teachers)

DH has suggested Thelma Sue, Hester Sue, Ellen Josephine (Ellie Jo or Josie) and Ellen Margaret (Ellie Mae). All names, including middle names, are family names. I like Ellie Mae the best by far. I do think of The Beverly Hillbillies but I think it's a cute name. Plus, Ellie Mae was a pretty, yet tough, girl...not such a bad thing to be in my opinion. Our other daughter loves animals and can't wait until she can go hunting with Daddy so if her sister is anything like her, the name will be pretty fitting.
I hope I didn't offend anyone, some of the names are fine but just don't go with our last name or are nms. Its just the combination of them all that makes me think of a dog.
No offense here. I've heard a few people voice that they weren't a fan of the name which I get. Several people here are choosing names that I would never pick for myself and sound kind of strange to me so I understand that others will feel this way about my choices.
Other names I said no to because they just are nms are Wendy, Alice, Abrionna and Sophia. I get it.
