April 2014 Moms

Help me..Please!

I'm desperate for any kind of advice. DD2 will NOT sleep. She had been up since 5:30 am, took a 30 mom nap at 9:30, and a 20 min nap in the car around noon. She is extremely fussy and tired. She just fights me. I can't hold her to sleep, she scratches and kicks me. She won't sleep in the swing, I had to put the rock and play up because she's starting to sit up in it, and she rolls over in the crib and screams. I took her to the dr to rule out an ear infection/ illness and they told me it would pass. This is day 5 of this behavior. We are also having issues at night, but less of them. I'm doing this all alone because DH works out of town and is only home about 36hrs a week or less. I'm desperate for any kind of help. The dr said she's teething, and I could give Tylenol, but it makes no difference. She is almost 6 months.

Sorry for writing a book. I'm exhausted.

  • Goodness, I'm so sorry! :( Teething is the pits. Have you tried infant orajel? I give DS the natural kind when nothing else helps, and sometimes it helps, sometime not. I wish you luck though. I know this is used soooooo much but "This too shall pass.."

  • Leap 5 + teething is killing us right now. The only way I can get her to sleep is with Tylenol and holding her in the ergo. Once she realizes that she can't move around, she eventually gives in to sleep. You could also try a teething necklace to help with pain.

  • Daytime sleep royally sucks around here and nighttime is not much better these days. To get DD to fall asleep for naps I turn on the white noise on my phone, go into the bathroom that has no windows, turn on the fan and close the door. And give her a paci. Then I do lunges side to side while holding her. Sometimes I have to hold her arm down because she swings it all around and pulls her paci out.

But i literally have to eliminate all outside stimulation during the day for her to fall asleep. Sometimes I can put her down once she's out but many times she will roll over as soon as I set her down and wake up.

He only other option is putting her in the mei tai and walking with her.

It will pass - hang in there!

  • So sorry! My ds was like that at around 5 months. I had to get a black out curtain for him, start using a fan for white noise, and a couple times I had to rock him in the infant car seat to get him asleep, then move him to his crib. He never napped long. Naps were a mess for about a month, but he normalized eventually. He is still up at 5am though, and he's 3 now. I think it's hard wired in him or something.

  • I am so sorry a traveling husband plus a fussy no sleepy baby is the worst. We are dealing with it too. Tylenol is the only thing getting us any sleep in this house. Tweeting tablets seem to be working a little too. I started sleep training at night because he was not getting enough sleep. And plan to do it during the day next week if his daytime sleep doesn't get any better. Hang in there.
