Charlie Banana ? Sun baby ?
Bamboo, balanced , micro fiber, or hemp inserts ? What works for different reasons. New born and sized or one size ? Too many choices! FTM in need of the run down. These 2 types seem to be thw way id like to go. Pocket wise. I think oh gosh idk.
Re: What to pick!?
1. Why Charlie banana or sun baby? If you are looking for the best inexpensive pockets I would go with kawaii or alva. Kawaii are my favorite, but alva has more/ better prints if that's what you want.
Whatever you decide, you should start with a varied stash. All babies are shaped differently, and different brands fit differently so make sure you have at least 2-3 brands to try out. Most people will tell you to also start with different types, not just brands. I would have a few prefolds and fitteds as well as pockets to start.
2. Microfiber inserts come with almost all pocket diapers. Most people end up replacing them with natural fibers after a while though. Hemp is the most absorbent, but it absorbs slower, so it is best paired with something that absorbs quickly. I like alvas bamboo inserts but I usually pair them with hemp.
3. You will need a nb stash no matter what. OS diapers do not fit a newborn no matter what they claim. Most OS begin to fit around 10-12 lbs or 6-8 weeks. Even If you have a 10lb nb, they will probably not fit just because NBs are shaped differently and their legs are so skinny.
OS are more popular than sized, especially when it comes to pockets, just because that's how most brands are sold, and because it is more cost efficient.
I like my Kawaiis.
I started off with recommendations from friends and had a few AppleCheeks and a couple of BGs. After trying them for a while, I love the BGs but the ACs just don't fit my baby well. So I sold some off and bought more of what fits. I've also bought fitteds for ON as well as a few prefolds and covers at the recommendations of this board. I love them all for different reasons and I'm glad I didn't have a huge stash of diapers that don't fit.
