I wish I could help but my post prandials have been in the low 80s regardless of what I eat, so I've been indulging in PSLs and pumpkin doughnuts. I'm just a bad influence. :-/

  • I just figure at this point hes coming out soon so hes not gonna have time to get huge! But then again, if you dont follow the diet it can make him have high blood sugar when hes born right?

  • Glad to hear I'm not the only one slacking :) I technically only gave glucose intolerance so my fasting numbers are always pretty good but damn, I cannot handle pasta. Even when measured out to fulfill my carb intake for the meal. My biggest problem is that I've been occasionally having a second snickers ice cream bar at night.. While it doesn't negatively affect my fasting numbers I'm afraid it will spike my BG at night...I don't test after my night snack, just assuming it is detrimental to my health by having that second sugary snack. I just thought the only risk to baby was large size at birth, didn't know my BG levels affected her pancreas. :( Feeling more guilty now.

  • My numbers have been okish, I did cheat  by having a sliver of cake on Sunday and had a 144 reading so I really do have to be good.

Other than the rare upper 120's most of my post meal numbers are great.  My fasting is still giving me trouble even with taking yet another dose of glyburide at bed time.  This morning it was 89 and I thrust my hand up in the air for victory.

As mentioned last week,  there is some concern that my placenta isn't doing great so I may be induced next week.  I will know more Thursday morning.  Baby is measuring great but I am really concerned about his blood sugar post delivery so this week I need to be on point for his sake.

I had been great about testing until the last couple of days.  I missed one on Sunday and one yesterday (both after breakfast) and have been slacking on remembering the exact time I took my last bite so I know that I haven't been 100% accurate with that.  Just getting so overwhelmed by everything going on.

  • Everything's going well enough, I suppose, but I feel like this kid is huge and has run out of room already. I want to punch every OB and nurse who tells me it's great that he's so active. I'd just like his giant ass and giant feet to stop moving long enough for me to get more than four hours of sleep at night. Of course, my MFM decided I don't need to come in for another growth scan at this point, so he might not actually be as enormous as I think.

Diet is fine. I'm still enjoying being able to eat more carbs than I could pre-pregnancy thanks to the insulin shots. If I do "cheat," it's more about the amount of food I eat than about what I eat.

  • My OB actually told me that it's more important to follow the diet religiously at the end of the pregnancy which of course is the time around which, you get really tired of it. :(

DS1 was born with perfect blood sugars though (his pediatrician said that she couldn't tell I had GD from looking at this sugars) so I'm using that as inspiration for the last couple of weeks. I would hate for DS2 to think I didn't care as much about his blood sugars. I am getting really tired of checking when I eat and testing an hour later - only 14 more days to go though!

Out of curiosity, if you never have a "high" BG (high being above the bounds defined by your endo/literature) , and a low A1C, is LO still in danger of hypoglycemia upon birth?  I think that's why I started cheating - regardless of what I eat right now, I don't break 90 2 hours post meal.

I plan to ask my MFM this during my appointment.  My endo told me if I can tolerate more carbs there's nothing wrong with that, I just need to know my limits.

I would think that as long as your readings are within tolerance then your LO should be fine. I didn't have "perfect" readings with DS1 (I had highs here and there) and he was totally fine.

You could just be tolerating carbs pretty well. I actually do pretty good on carbs - I've eaten pizza, pasta, lasagna etc. and been ok as long as I portion control.

  • So, maybe some of you who have BTDT can help me out. Any reason why my readings are consistently lower when I'm not strictly adhering to the diet? When I was going by the book, my readings were within range, but borderline. When I stopped following the diet relgiously, my readings dropped significantly and leveled off. I'm even incorporating fruit and things like burrito size white tortillas into every meal. Still staying away from sweets, sodas, and juices though.

And I just had a growth scan last night at 36+4 and LO is only 6lbs and some change, 41.4 percentile, obviously not big due to GD.

  • I had a rough weekend (stomach issues, overall ickiness) and my numbers were either really high or really low.  This week, I have had high numbers at least once a day.  I am not being as strict in measuring on my diet, which is probably not helping.  I have not been very active either (45 minutes in the grocery store last night just about killed me).  I expect my MFM to change my glyburide dosage maybe this or next week.... we shall see.  At last week's appt, she seemed pretty happy with where I'm at so far.

QOTW:  I have actually cheated some in my afternoon snack and have more carbs because I generally don't eat dinner until 4 hours later and don't check BG until another 2 hours.  I justify it by saying the sugars will go down in that 6 hour time frame, BUT I think my readings show otherwise.  I'm tired and sometimes don't have the energy to figure out good food, which I need to fix.

So I have been using the Luna protein bars as my afternoon snack.  They are filling and somewhat tasty.  Also, I like the nutrition peanut packs.  They have different varieties and the protein has been balancing out the carbs. I find those quite delish!

  • @Cantisa‌ I was doing it from the first bite bc that is what the nurse and dietician told me but then the nurse at Maternal Fetal told me last bite. Since she was the one reviewing my numbers I started going by that. I'm a quick eater so it is not like a huge difference.

I have learned that GD is a bunch of let's see what happens. Real reassuring!
  • It has been a few weeks since i checked in... I have had a rough few meals regarding the diet and many times I am testing late. I have been so tired at night I really don't feel like cooking much. I am struggling with breakfast again because I get so tired of the same things. My endo and MFM haven't been too concerned with my random high numbers and my fasting numbers have been good for 2 weeks now, so I am happy with that. I really miss my sweets!
QOTW: Sat we were doing work around the house and I forgot to test twice and then had Chinese food for dinner.

  • I had a growth scan yesterday and LO is measuring exactly on track! Good to know - I had a couple of highs over the past week and was a little worried. Now just have to stick to the diet for the rest of the pregnancy!

@ironbi13 your last bite?!? I thought it was my first bite!!!

Add me to the slackers club. My post prandials are never high even after 2 parties this weekend, both of which included sweets and carbs. I am finding it SO hard to stick to the diet when I can't even walk correctly these days.

FF GD C: When I know I'm seeing the stricter OB, I put in random numbers in my log for when I missed checking my BS so she doesn't yell at me. I am a child.
if it makes you feel any better, my MFM & endo looked at my BGs and said that I can continue to eat whatever is giving me those numbers because they're low enough where extra glucose should not be reaching LO.  They didn't see it as cheating if your body can handle the food as if it were in a normal state.

  • I know that insulin resistance is supposed to increase as the pregnancy progresses, but is anyone noticing improved numbers?  I'm starting to worry about my placenta function because my numbers are so strange.  My MFM didn't seem worried and commented that he has seen women who truly only have fasting issues but are fine otherwise, but it's bothering me a bit.  LO passes all his NSTs & BPPs quickly and has been really active the last 2 days, but I know we need to see measurements as a surrogate for placenta function, but it's still bothering me a bit.

  • My levels seem to be doing better (except the last two nights post dinner where I have made poor dinner choices) but I think it has to do with taken meds three times a day.
  • My numbers are also looking better these days.  I seemed to level out around 32 weeks and haven't need a med change since then.  Most post meals are in the 90s.  Even fastings are mostly under control.

  • I have been kind of slacking as well.  Two weeks ago, the dr told me that my numbers were great and I only needed to check twice a day (fasting in the morning and then a meal of my choosing).  I have been really lax since then about checking my numbers and sometimes I HAVE to check dinner because it's the only meal left to do.  I honestly don't check if I suspect that the meal may give me higher than normal results.  Sometimes I check just because I'm curious.  I had a meal at a restaurant yesterday that I would have eaten exactly the same pre-diabetes and I wanted to know what the results would be.  My sugar was 110 with no adjustments made (except I did get water instead of the usual sweet tea).  I'm so sick of planning out meals and my husband told me last night that he hasn't requested anything specific for dinner because he doesn't know if I can eat it or not so all of the meal decision making has been on me and I HATE meal planning.

I met with the pediatrician on Tuesday and she said that LO would be monitored for six hours after birth to check sugar levels.  They always hope that breastfeeding should be enough to maintain levels, but they sometimes have to supplement or give an IV to get levels to where they are supposed to be.  This gives me a little motivation to eat better for my baby, but I'm so sick of it.
  • I haven't checked in a few weeks...At my last dr's appointment my #s were good so I only have to check 4x a day instead of 7.  I've been more lax since I'm not checking as often and my #s are still under 120.  I'm getting frustrated seeing doughnuts in our staff lounge almost daily.  Last week, I had 1/2 of one just to see what my # would be like and to my surprise, normal.  I've also added haagen daaz single serving ice cream as my bedtime snack and it does not affect my fasting #, thank goodness.  I think the ice cream is my saving grace at this point.  I am definitely more hormonal this week and saw that hubby had In&Out for lunch (saw the bag in the trash) and I went into crazy mode.  I really would kill for one of those cheeseburgers at this point..

Ate a double double last week and ended up with one of my lowest post dinner numbers ever. If you're into seeing what you can get away with, you might be pleasantly surprised. I think the double patty and cheese really helped balance out the carbs from the bun, but then again, I tolerate white flour pretty well. I did skip the fries.

Thank you and will try this out!

  • @golfingdarwinfish‌ My numbers have been all over the place this week. I'll have a high 2-hr post-prandial reading, then crash into a sweaty mess another hour later. My MFM and OBs aren't worried as long as the baby is still active and performs well on the NSTs. I have three of those left, and they just decided to do another growth scan on Monday, so I'm not too concerned. My induction date is less than two weeks away!
