Frozen vs fresh

I feel kind of stupid asking this but, is it better to pump and freeze every day and rotate stock or just keep my freezer stash and keep pumped milk in the fridge to use the next day? I'm asking this because I will be returning to work in 3 weeks and am starting to build up my stock and was curious.

  • I know that fresh milk is better, but I have a huge freezer pile. So, I like to use the oldest first so it won't go bad. But if he is sick or I am sick then I use a fresh bottle for a day or two. Also it was easier to send frozen bags to daycare for the week instead of making bottles everyday.

2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

what many people do is give the previous day's pumped milk tuesday through friday, then freeze friday's pumped milk. on monday you give your LO the oldest milk from your freezer. that way you are always cycling out the oldest milk from your stash, but your LO still gets fresh BM 4 out of 5 workdays (plus all the times you BF at home, of course).
This is what I do and it's worked for us.  If LO needs a bottle on the weekends for any reason, I use frozen then as well.  Like PPs have said though, do what's simplest and works for you.  GL with going back to work!

If your freezer stash is really excessive and keeps growing, you can look into donating (via HMBANA bank or mom to mom). It's a great option to use up milk you can't use fast enough!
Thanks! But my plan is to quit pumping early and use up the milk. :)
