We still haven't decided yet, but we're considering Elliott. The only thing I don't like is some people have been naming their little girls Elliott and calling them Elli. I dont want my boy having the same name as a girl. We have to decide though I'm due in 4 weeks.
Well then.
Do you have a problem with my preference?
The bolded statement gave me pause. You don't really get to have a say in what people name their daughters, and one day, regardless of what you name your son, he may encounter a girl with the same name. The world will not end. His penis will not burrow inside his body and turn into a vagina, and his testes will not turn to ovaries.
5 cycles of "TTC" - 3 intentional, 2 not so intentional. 5 BFPs. My rainbow arrived 10/15/14. TFMC 08.02.13 at 19+ weeks. Everyday I grieve for my little Olive.

I do think the Elliot for a gal is an interesting trend however. A friend from college named his daughter Elliot.te and they call her Elli. Initially, I thought maybe they just wanted odd matchy names for their kids. (Older daughter is Charl.otte.)
If my LO surprises us with a penis at birth, the easy name switch would be to call him Elliot. But having the slim chance of him sharing a name with a girl wouldn't be my first concern.
Definitely not my first concern, but I've meet a few people with girls named Elliott, the oldest is probably 13. So it's possible to have a girl named Elliott in his class or something. I just wouldn't like if the name turns into a girls name like Ashley, Madison or Morgan. I have no problem if you want to name you girl a boy name, just not my preference.

I don't care if people want to name their girl Elliott, but if it's going to become a trend to name your girls Elliott. Then I don't want to name my boy that. You know?
I'm more of a lurker, but excited to be able to contribute every once in a while.... we're "team green" but we've decided on Cora Rose for a girl and Carter David for a boy. Both middle names are strong family names, and it was important to us to have a two-syllable (or less!) first name, as our last name has tons of vowels.
Now to just wait another (almost) six weeks to see which one we have! :-)
@brit8618 I think there are a lot of people on here who, like you, do not like to cross traditional gender name lines. That's not a battle that's going to be settled here. I think what GDF and others including myself noticed about your post is that you made it seem like an insult for your boy to share the same name as girls, as if girls are lower than boys. I don't think you consciously think that but that was the underlying tone of your statement.

Yeah I didn't get that. I just don't want my boys name to sound feminine. I think girls can get away with having boy names better.
Interesting discussion. Our DS is going to be Elliott (see first comment on this post!), and we definitely prefer masculine names for boys and feminine names for girls and to stay away from the more gender neutral names...but to me, Elliott is a pretty masculine name. And that's honestly not a criteria that's at the very top of our list. If it sounds masculine to us, it works! Lol
We decided on Ellie Grace very early on and I do not see that changing. DH started calling her that before the end of the first tri and it just sounds right
@Kaylajade8911 They're both family names for us too. I think there's another Jack Ryan around here too...one of @mel689's little guys? I remember seeing the name waaaaay back at the very beginning, but I can never see siggies.

(Holy crap I've been lurking hard core lately)
Our little man is Jack Ryan. Probably. Maybe.
We have a Jack and a Ryan in our family

Our name is Benjamin William and I don't like the nickname Benji. I think it sounds like a dog.
And the only Elliot I know IRL happens to be a girl ( in her late 20's) but I still think of it as a boys name.
