Old Wives Tale?!

So, this is my second pregnancy and I have not been feeling well whatsoever, from nausea, vomiting, breaking out and overall not feeling attractive, I dislike wearing any makeup now and this may be wishful thinking or I just chalk it up to mothers intuition but I felt early on that this pregnancy is going to be a girl!

I have heard that old wives tale that when you are having a girl you feel "ugly"

Has anyone experienced or is experiencing this?

Not true in my experience. I feel gross, ugly, have no energy and was miserably sick for the first 13ish weeks- and I'm having a boy. My SIL (who is pretty plain) was absolutely radiant and beautiful when she was pregnant with a girl.

Old wife's tales have no bearing!
But with my son I felt fabulous just a belly!
My daughter I felt horrible!
This one again I feel horrible no idea what I am having!

I was going to go pull an article or two on this but I'm at work and lazy as all get-out today.

Basically, the levels of fetal hormones are so insignificant in maternal blood circulation (unless you're dealing with a rare case of fetal hyperthyroidism or other endocrine disorders) that there is absolutely no affect they could be having on your appearance (or anything else noticeable for that matter). Fetal hormones stay close to the fetus - in the amniotic fluid - where they are most useful to the fetus.

Aside from the normal homonal changes in pregnancy (which affect each mother differently and have no basis on the sex of the fetus and are due to changes in the maternal body, not because you're getting extra doses of estrogen or testosterone from a fetus), your hormones affect your fetus more than your fetus's hormones affect you. Estrogen affects fetal growth and gestational length and blah blah blah.

All this to say: wive's tales can be fun, but there is never any reason to ever in the history of ever take them seriously. The only credible research on this is the potential possibility that x chromosome sperm cells live longer than y chromosome due to the extra mitohondrial energy they have.

Ramzi theory (which I never heard of in my life until this board), facial appearance, morning sickness differences between male and female fetuses, spinning needles over your belly, different sex positions to get you a girl vs. boy or whatever... none of them are real life.

I feel like shit and probably look worse. My chances of ever having a girl are seriously remote. So yeah, old wives tales are 99.9% BS.

With my son I gained a ton of weight and had really bad skin and felt ugly all the time. Now, I'm pregnant with a girl and I actually lost weight and have been getting compliments on my body, my skin is clearer than ever before and I actually have a whole new confidence. So definitely not true for me.
