9/15-9/22 Track Club - We're Slacking!

Hey Ladies,

ok, so we're totally slacking - how's everyone doing?!

i had a REALLY tough couple of weeks food wise - i was treating my body like a garbage disposal (as per the usual), and had three straight weigh-ins of no progress.  i was so down on myself, and i cried ugly tears. so toward the end of last week, my mom kicked my butt back into gear.  when i weighed myself yesterday, i was down almost three pounds! some of that was water weight b/c of all the salty snacks i was eating, but it is progress none-the-less!

so i went back and looked at the first track club, and i am down 10 pounds!  that's something that i haven't been able to say for a while.  i started out at 214 (8 days pp), and now i'm 204.  i'm 5 pounds from my first goal of 199.  i'm hoping to be there by DS's birthday at the end of the month.  we'll see!

i've been super active.  at least walking my very hilly neighborhood every day, and i took a class at the gym too!  it kicked my butt, but it was wonderful to be working out again.

so my goals this week remain the same.  i want to take 2 classes at least, and then walk every day.  it's going to get harder because i'm starting to go back to work part time (three hours a day), for the remainder of my maternity leave, but with some help, i can definitely do it!!  :)

i hope everyone is well this week!  let's hear your goals/progress!!

  • I haven't lost anymore or even worked out. I've been ashamed to even check the thread

  • Chin up everyone. We need to just put it behind us and move forward.

My mom heard a phrase: "imperfect progress". We are all still taking steps - we need to be kind to ourselves and just give ourselves time. Most of us are less than 2 months pp! It seems like an eternity, but it is a drop in the bucket.

I'm giving myself a year. I just need to keep plugging forward - it'll be hard, and I'll have setbacks, but as long as there's progress, it doesn't have to be perfect all the time!

  • As of 2 weeks ago, I needed to loose around 15 lbs to get to my pre-pregnancy weight. However, I had gained like 2 to 3 lbs, so that was discouraging. I can't diet because I am EBFing, but I have limited my sugar intake..sugar is my vice.

Last week I had sugar only 2 days, and I walked/ran 6 days of the week.
This week, I have already had my sugar tonight, MIL makes delicious cookies, I may have a sweet one more time...
I am planning to walk and/or run at least 5 days. Also, I am going to throw in a strength workout.

I decided as long as I am treating my body well, I am going to avoid the scale for another week or two.

Last week was a mix of very good or very bad days. I finished the week strong and so far so good on this week.

I'm still making a 5000 steps a day a goal. 2 walks per week. And if I get cleared for exercise at my pp visit weds I'm going to rejoin a gym.

Related question- anyone here do spin class? Any recommendations on what to wear? I do not want sore lady parts.

I'm not a big participant of spinning, but I have a road bike and have done cycling... I HIGHLY recommend padded bike shorts, yes they feel really awkward to wear but your lady parts will thank you.

Also , if you're going to stick with it, I'd recommend getting some bike shoes that will clip into the spin bike pedals - they help you get more out of the exercise because you can pull as well as push the pedals. My shoes are technically for mountain biking, but they still work for cycling and spinning and are easier to wear in doors.

  • My update (I'm going to try and participate more): I've been running every third day or so and I'm pretty much back to starting weight, but not starting shape... So I'm still working on getting muscle tone back... But that means doing weights/strength training and I'm being really lazy in that category.

It's getting chilly here ( twin cities) so I'm going to reactivate my gym membership next week and I'm hoping that helps. I'm ready to get back to Zumba!

i miss the twin citites so much!!  DH and i lived there for 4 years before we got married - we loved it there (lived in downtown Mpls and then Downtown St. Paul for 3 years).

  • @matthew930 - so happy to read that you were able to get yourself back into a good space mentally.  Even after the bad days, it is good to remember that this process is a journey to a overall healthier you.  Some days the scale doesn't cooperate, but keep your goal in mind!

  • I was bad and didn't check in last week, but I have been keeping up with my goals pretty well!
Last week was my best week yet.  I was firing on all cylinders eating and exercise wise.  I even managed to eat a bit of a baptism cake on Sunday and not go back for seconds.  (Well, my friend threw my plate away when I tried to go back for seconds.)

I am down 2.4 pounds this week, and my next mini-goal is insight.  I have 2 main goals right now - I am determined to not buy any new jeans.  The weather is becoming quite chilly here in Upstate NY so I have to stick with this!  My second goal is that I will be able to get off of my yarn diet and buy even more fiber goodness.  I have another 8 pounds to go to get to that mini-goal.

    - I am hitting over my 10,100 steps a day and am upping it to 10,200.  Not trying to get too crazy, just ramping it up a bit.

    - I will continue to devote 300 calories to the treat of my choice each day to keep me sane.  Cold turkey just does not work with me.  I just need to moderate the amount of a treat.

    - I am exercising each day, but had to bring the cardio down to 20-25 minutes (sometimes finished in a couple chunks over the course of the day) after adding a 30 day challenge.  The strength takes a bit of time because my toddler is determined to help me out, haha.

  • @AlexandraB2014 - I am also EBF.  I am not dieting per say, more just eating a more reasonable amount of calories.  I am tracking my calories with My Fitness Pal.  You have great goals for the week.  Don't beat yourself up if you have a cookie (or three).  Just try to eat healthier overall.

  • I fell off the running wagon but have been getting my steps and doing yoga. I'm at my pp weight and I now fit into pants (although squishier). Since I'm going back full time on 10/1 I'm trying to see how I'll be able to find a routine to stick to. I hate being away from LO any longer than necessary.

Thanks! I can definitely beat myself up if I eat sweets, so that is why I am letting myself have at least one day a week to have some...it will probably end up being two! I need to get a step/calorie tracker; I will look into My Fitness Pal.

  • So, interesting thought. Even though I have a bitch of a cold, my mom kicked my butt out to the gym this afternoon. I went to a class (total body for you ymca goers) that was really tough for someone so it off shape.

I started out the class really, REALLY critical and not the least bit ashamed of what I saw in the mirror. But as the class went on, I started seeing my reflection differently. I ended up thinking that I looked pretty ok, and I was actually pretty impressed with what my broken body could accomplish (even though I had to modify most of the moves for lower impact).

I guess the point is that even if you're not crazy about yourself right now, you can do more than you think, and it may just make you feel better about yourself even if you're the most out of shape person in the class... Not that I'm talking about myself or anything ;)

  • I have also been slacking the past couple of weeks. Food wise I haven't been too bad, but exercising has been awful, and I just keep making excuses for it. So this week I'm doing it a bit different and setting a daily goal. I found that when I said I want to go for a walk 2 times this week, I would always put it off saying " oh I still have four more days in the week".

So when I get up in the morning I'll just set a goal depending in what the day looks like. Hopefully this helps get me on track! Good luck to all of us this week!!

  • @jensavicci‌ that's awesome! Welcome!

I love it here too! I've lived all over (Texas, upstate NY, NC and here) and this is my favorite! ( second to Texas of course , cause that's "home").

We both initially lived in Uptown and loved it! I had at apt right on lake Calhoun :) now we live out in the burbs (boo) to be closer to DHs work, but I still work in downtown mpls so I get to visit everyday :)

And for you and other the spinners @MSUDucks‌: I'm not good with brands, sorry :/ I'll check mine tonight when I get home though. I really like my bike shoes ( even though they are "technically " for mountain biking... Unless you're seriously racing I don't think it matters much). And as for spin class, I'd recommend taking it easy the first time, it's HARD! But an awesome workout
    .....

My goals for the week or going to shit... Lots of baby throw up, lots of unplanned bath times during my run times :/ hopefully his tummy calms down soon

I went for a long walk today- but my fitbit didn't log it because I was pushing the stroller. What a brat.

Ugh - that sucks. I push with one hand and let my other swing...but then I end up feeling lopsided...

  • Bumping this up! Let's finish the week off strong ladies! Forget the first part of the week and get out there and make it a positive end :)

I took another spin class this morning (thanks to lo taking an extra long nap for daddy this morning!), and i feel great. My bum hurt at first from the one I took earlier in the week, but surprisingly, that went away as the class went on. Good way to start the weekend.

  • Can I join you guys? I went back to WW this week, and have been tracking my food for the last couple days. I am also trying to get out for nice long walks with the kids while we have nice weather! I love to bike, but I don't think I'll get back into that until next spring. I can't take the kids and DH's schedule is too hectic now.

  • I've been avoiding this thread like the plague becaUse I've been so guilty. I haven't exercised at all. Well I decided that I was going to start back up this week and join in the discussions to help with accountability. So this morNing I Jumped on the scale to see where I was and expected the worst. I've lost another 4.5 lbs! I think it's in part due to giving up dairy. Only 9.5 more to go until pre pregnancy weight!
