Shaving

I hope all pregnant women stop shaving down there when they're pregnant. Bc if they do shave, they must be superwoman. I can't see anything anymore and it's so uncomfortable to even try. Tmi???? It's getting really annoying and I've definitely give up on shaving even around the panty line. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

  • Shaving.... Hell no. I wax. By "I wax" I really mean I pay a girl to wax me. Also only when needed, sorry husband!

  • I try. I do it very poorly but I attempt it. Mostly I just clean up the top area that the OB will see at doppler appointments. I worry that if it's too high it will affect the doppler (which is stupid).

  • I do-I am sure my husband laughs his ass off at me. The 6 weeks after having my DD were the WORST when it came to "down there".
  • I just keep er trimmed, maybe a light tweeze or shave here or there. I love in FL so I still have to be somewhat presentable when taking DD to the water park.

  • I only shave/clean up before appt! I've become so lazy with it. I'm really thinking about doing a Brazilian a month before I'm due!
  • I just stand in the mirror and do my maintenance. I just realized I Nair'd... Hope it's safe during pregnancy, although I only use it every 8-10wks anyway.

  • I still shave.  Last time, I shaved the morning of my 40 wks.  I couldn't handle not shaving- too itchy, feel gross.  It's not a perfect shave but made me feel better.

  • I just noticed this morning that it was getting a bit challenging for me to shave down there. Last pregnancy my DH helped me when I could no longer shave it myself. I'm sure he will be willing to help this time too. I've shaved since I was 16, I've tried growing it out some a couple times since then, but I just don't like it that way.

  • Dyinggggg at this post. I admit, I've gotten extremely lazy since BFP. So I shaved yesterday, attempted at least. Realized today that I missed a bunch of patches. DH didn't seem to care, he was just ecstatic that I shaved at all. And I'm definitely not to THAT point yet that I would even ask him for assistance. :X
  • I shave in front of the bathroom mirror like hubbs does! Works great :) this last week I was like what the heck I can't see it when I look down anymore. Ha
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I was just in the shower and yelled out to my partner that I can no longer see where I am shaving...glad to see others in the same boat
  • I get a Brazilian wax every 5-6 weeks & plan to continue this. I'm thinking I may even have my legs waxed too prior to delivery. My hair stylist did this with her two babies & said it was worth it. I figure one less thing to be bothered with.

  • I wax... Myself. I moved from California to ohio and it seems like it's just not as popular where I live because after driving 45 minutes I was in there for 2 hours! And I am not a hairy girl... It was the worst most hilarious situation... The poor girl doing it admitted half way through that she 1) had never done one before 2) had never had it done to herself because she was afraid of the pain 3) was going to try to call her boss to come into work to finish it... As I lay there with a messed up situation. I had to tell her to just freaking do it. It's not that hard but she let her own fear of the pain affect her and she timidly tried to wax me.. Which is about the worst most painful thing ever. It was slow agonizing torture.

I then started taking a shot if tequila, turning on some trash tv and doing it myself. Now... I indulge in a can of coke while doing it (I miss my petron). I plan on staying up on it as long as I can.. Then maybe trying a new place as I get bigger and close to my due date. Ay ay ay

  • I hate it all!!! I'll trim once in awhile and do the bikini line for swimsuits, but I hate it! I love the winter cuz I just don't care about my legs either. My husband has called me Sasquatch. I know it doesn't bother him, because hair and all he still takes me to bed ;)

  • I've never been one to shave completely. I will clean up around the edge's when I am putting on a bathing suit and trim a bit but that's it. Im pretty sure I stopped doing any maintenance whatsoever around 6 months last time.

I figure the midwives have always seen worse (and they are hardly ever looking at my vag except for the butt-swipe and delivery) and DH doesn't care so it's one less thing for me to worry about!

  • I can't handle not shaving and luckily for me DH doesn't care too much either way. I just figure he shaves for me so I gotta keep doin it for him, but he has offered to help when my belly gets too big. All my hair south of the border grows very slowly though so I only shave once a week tops.

  • I feel like I have the mange down there only because after I spend way too much time trying not to look like a '70's pornstar I always seem to find a spot or two I have missed more than once.
  • Easier if you keep on top of it. Postpartum stuff is also much nicer if shaved. I "shave by Braille" lol. It may not be pretty, but I'm going for comfort and practicality. I also use a Venus razor with 5 blades and I can't remember that razor ever cutting me.
  • My hair grows FAST. It's gross. Luckily DH says he doesn't mind, whether or not that's really true idk! I'm still pretty mobile and can shave for now, but am worried about my legs at least for the birth. Pretty sure I'll suck it up at let DH help with that!

  • Thanks for this thread!! I only shave before appts but when I do I feel like I can't breathe and my heart starts beating really fast, so that might not last much longer.

  • Last pregnancy I did one last shave before heading to the hospital. I know the doctors don't care but I do:) I agree with pp, things are a little bit of a mess for a while post-partum so I will definitely groom close to delivery again.
  • I trim what I can comfortably but after that...my doc will just get what she gets.

  • Glad you brought it up. It's all going to be new to me and I was wondering about the logistics. I have decided that I will have to recruite DH for this task.  Lucky him, right? Shhh...he doesnt know yet.

As for allowing him to use something sharp down there...hell no.  There are perfectly good electric trimmers out there. It's not like I need a close shave. Yes, it is necessary, I'm afraid.
  • Luckily DH doesn't like me shaved, so I just groom. After reading some of these posts though I may shave when it's close to delivery because of postpartum.
  • I've been lazy the last week, but I'm about to go deforest myself. My anniversary weekend starts NOW, so time to get date ready.

I don't know...I would be really nervous about waxing for the first time this far along. There is so much more blood flow and sensitivity. I went at about 4 weeks and haven't been back. I don't know what to do. I'll probably just use nair/veet. My hair is also growing ridiculously fast.

Thanks. I wish I had more than a basic understanding of these types of things. I just want something easier than shaving at this point. My legs are long (completely average) and I get tired easily. I may try Nair, I've heard it works.

I have never noticed a difference since being pregnant. My SIL has a shop so I pretty much have a standing appointment every 4 weeks.

Hm I wouldn't. I am definitely more sensitive to pain while pregnant, which is hilarious considering what we have to go through at the end of all this...

  • I like my nether regions tidy, so over the summer I got Brazilian sugaring done, plus my lower legs sugared every few weeks so I didn't have to worry about shaving when heading to the pool with DS. Plus the hair grows back more fine than with shaving, so it's less noticeable when it is there. I stopped getting a Brazilian at the end of August (no more pool, no more need for constantly clean bikini line), and have my last appointment for my legs tomorrow. Once I was about 8 weeks along it was more painful/sensitive to get a wax, but still manageable. I have shaved since and like to keep the hair down there short, and the itching as it grows out bugs me so much.

Last pregnancy I kept on top of shaving, "went in blind" once my bump got to a certain size, so I'll probably do the same this time...maybe get another wax when I hit full term so postpartum is easier (I expect stitches again since I tore last time :( ).
