Checking the inbox made me realize that @emmanemm hasn't been around lately.... seeing she was the last response on the original message. Where are you young lady?? Hope all is well
MAS, we use leather moccasins over socks. No idea what we'll need when it gets colder.
Went to a mom friend's house after the tot lot yesterday. She had another friend of hers over. Who is a physician. With a kid. Who had a rash, runny nose and who his mother cheerfully attested had "some kind of virus" but she didn't know what it was, he'd had it for two weeks now and he wanted to go out. Ummmmm. I kind of just sat there because he was playing in a corner without the other kids, but when he started drooling on the toys Feli wanted to play with, I packed her up, murmured I didn't feel comfortable with this anymore, and left. The other moms there looked at me like I had grown two heads.
...although later one of them wrote me via FB that she wished she had gone with me.
Good morning! A is still sleeping (amazing!) Dh was so loud stomping around getting ready this morning. I think he's PMSing. He's been a pain in the ass all weekend. I'm almost ready for him to leave for the week again.
@amparo1981 I would have left too. That was really inconsiderate of the other mom.
I never know if I should let Jae sleep in short sleeve jammies or if I should put him in a footsie fleece zip up one. Our house is always at around 72-75 & he hates being hot.
@amparo1981 Where did you get the baby moccasins? I've always wanted to get some for Jae!
Guys, I know I shouldn't be thinking this way & I know he will develop at his own pace but sometimes I feel like my baby isn't as smart as some of yalls. I see the things some of you post on here or instagram of your babies being awesome & I feel like Jae could be at that level too. I feel like I'm failing somehow. Like I don't teach him enough, don't interact him with other kids enough or something. I don't know. I know I should probably CTFD but I just had to put that out there. Any thoughts?
@dinomama13 I feel the same way sometimes. And then all of the sudden Ben will do 5 new things at once and blow me away. I try to get him to bring me specific things like a ball or a book. He never does. He can't put toys into shape sorters (well, he does by taking off the lid, lol). He doesn't have a huge vocab. But I try to focus on what he can do and how far he has come, as an individual, instead of comparing him to his far others have come. Easier said than done though.
@econmama He's just not very consistent with things. Like he will repeat something once or twice but never say it again & he can't really say too many words only "papa" for food & mama/dada. All he does & shows interest in is playing. Literally that is all he will do all day. He won't go exploring & throw things/take out things from the trash, doesn't try putting his shoes on, doesn't wear ours, I don't find him in weird places trying weird things. Just little stuff like that. Stuff he should be doing at his age. I feel like some of it has to do with not walking yet. He's so close! Maybe once he walks he will start wanting to explore and learn more?
@dinomama13 I'm sure J is just fine. Like others said, all babies develop at their own speed. If you find yourself super concerned, ask your pedi. They should be able to help.
FWIW P still hasn't taken his first steps and can only stand independently for a few seconds. When he was reevaluated for delays, his gross motor delay was gone but he tested lower in that area. His social emotional and cognitive scores were almost perfect. Kids are stronger in some areas at certain times.
Hugs! I remember the heartache of reading all them crawling and standing posts when P wasn't even sitting independently.
@fabk enjoy the balance if the week before you go back. Smart that you took a short week, I wish I had done that
@dinomama13 I'm sure everything is okay. Adrian is one of the older July babies and he doesn't really have any words (just "dada"), and only just started walking. He does some basic signs but doesn't do things like bring me shoes when he wants to go for a walk etc. I'm not worrying about it, and I'm sure Jae is developing totally normally too!
@MRads I try & look at the positives as well. He really does blow me away when he does new things all at once! And you're right, not worrying is much easier said than done.
I never know if I should let Jae sleep in short sleeve jammies or if I should put him in a footsie fleece zip up one. Our house is always at around 72-75 & he hates being hot.

>:D< I've had this same failing conversation with myself several times. It's so hard not to compare. I have to run, so I don't have time for specifics now. You are an amazing mother to a fabulous little guy!
@mrads Alex looks at me like I am stupid trying to put shapes in the sorter. He just takes off the lid, hands itto me and dumps the shapes in. @dinomama Jae is just going at his own pace. I would try not to worry to much over it. Alex doesn't walk independently yet either, for which I am happy. It will happen eventually!
@rondosa Sometimes I forget that he's one of the younger babies. He was born on the 25th.
I guess all these munchkins really do go at their own pace more than I thought. It's good to know I'm not the only one feeling this way at times. You ladies rock! >:D<
Also, @dinomama13 my kid doesn't explore a ton. He never climbs things. He's pretty cautious. He doesn't want to do something unless he is 100% sure he can. So, with the shape sorter, he knows where the blue circle goes. He will do the blue circle over and over again, but when I give him a different shape, he hands it back to me to do. Some kids just like to wait to do things until they are confident they won't fail. And as frustrating as it is, it has worked out in my favor in some ways, because he doesn't fall often. He's never just run into something. He knows how to navigate safely.
@dinomama13 I have the same worries. A isn't walking, only says "da" consistently, won't even attempt to use a spoon, etc. I just try to remember that he'll get there when he's ready. But I totally understand the worry. Hugs!
@dinomama13 kids are just so different. My sister has two kids, a 3 yo girl and a 18 mo boy. The girl was the first baby in our family and we all doted on her and thought she was a genius even if she was a little later talking. Then her brother comes along, and he is sooo smart and such a good talker. My sister and BIL said that they are glad she was first, because if she had been their second they would be comparing her to her brother. They both said if they had been comparing them when she was his age they would probably would have been having her tested for some serious mental delays.
I hid behind the kitchen wall to listen to my BF read "The very hungry caterpillar" to LO. He has different chomping noises for every food. Hearing her belly laugh after each noise just made my day.
....and then I had to wait until she was playing in the bedroom so I could sneak out because I had officially "gone" 15 minutes ago and neither parent wanted another good-bye meltdown.
@dinomama13 Like the others have said, babies develop at different ends of the normal spectrum. My kids don't do things when most babies do them. They sat up late, my son never crawled and never used the pincer grasp (he needed glasses). Whenever I read what M should be doing at __ months and she's not doing it, I know my kids are usually behind the average until about age 2, especially in motor skills.
However, my oldest two score well above their peers on standardized test and are in the gifted program. I know its easier said than done, but try not to worry.
Before M started walking, my mom would say she's staring at the other walkers and thinking so she can analyze just how its done.
Weaning hormones suck. We cut our pre-nap session this week. I just bawled my eyes out because one of the K9 service dogs (who I've never met) from mh's work passed away yesterday. Two nights ago I was a blubbering mess and lucky I was already broke when I saw the new World Wildlife Fund polar bear commercial. I was reasy to save ALL.THE.POLAR.BEARS!
@mrshudson618 My family thinks he's a genius. Even more so on my DH's side because he's their first grandchild.
@flkong Now that I'm talking to my mom she says he's just like I was at that age, cautious, observant & independent. I was also in gifted & talented programs & tested well above average on standardized tests. Maybe he'll be like his momma!
The college I went to (an extremely small, private, liberal arts school) has a fall holiday called Mountain Day where all classes are cancelled and everyone goes to a local park for a picnic, games, etc. The best part is that the day changes every year, so you get a surprise phone call, email, text, etc on the morning of the day that the activities committee picks. Today is Mountain Day and I'm so jealous of all the students that get to celebrate it. Real life needs a Mountain Day!
I'm going to the gym today AND I'm going for a walk this evening with a friend. I need to get out of this damn slump and get back to chasing @fabk on fitbit!
I needed to type that in order to hold myself accountable!

dinomama13 Jae is doing great. All babies are different and have their own strengths. DD does not do many things that most kids do but she also does do what other kids wont do also. He will do them.
And it is nice to know that DD is not the only one walking. After seeing DD crawl all over the place I am not sure that I want her to walk and get into more trouble.
DD also just sits there and observes her surroundings. It takes about 3 times of visiting one place before she will feel comfortable to crawl around. So Jae could be an observer too and while he is doing it he is learning.

Baby boy 7.10.13
DS was up twice last night and LO was up once. This constantly interrupted sleep paired with too many hours at the office is beginning to get to me.
The girl was the first baby in our family and we all doted on her and thought she was a genius even if she was a little later talking. Then her brother comes along, and he is sooo smart and such a good talker.

@econmama Good luck with your deadlines!
@casey78 Don't want to be an enabler, but there's nothing magic about starting on a Monday, right? Why not Tuesday?
It is down to 58 in our house this morning. Here is hoping for quick action from repair guy and/or warmer temps today.
