Membrane Sweep: Did it work for you?

Yes, I am one of the few ladies left with an inside baby, hoping to glean some information from you outside baby mamas.

If you had a membrane sweep, how far along were you, and did it work? Meaning, the "cramping" they are talking about turned into regular contractions, and you had your baby within the next day or so?

Sorry to be bringing up "old topics" Just trying to stay positive as I continue to bake this baby and take advantage of the groups experience!

Today at 2 is my sweep and yes, this my second. I've been having contractions for awhile and some even are beginning to feel like the "real thing" at times, but then they just slow down and stop. So I'm hoping my body just needs a little nudge.

With my first I didn't go into labor till 41+4 and I didn't try any induction methods. However, this time the midwives I'm using are required to turn care over to the hospital (I'm at a Birth Center) at 42 weeks so I'm trying to help things along any way I can

It worked for me! I was 40w5d and was 2cm. Had a sweep at 2pm then went to accupunture at 4pm then at 6pm my water broke and at 1:45am my baby was born!

Didn't work for me. I had a sweep Tuesday morning, my midwife said if it was going to work it would be in the next 8 hours. My water broke and I went into labor shortly before midnight on Wednesday, so I'm not crediting the sweep.

With DS, it didn't work. With DD, I had a sweep done 38.5 on Fri around 3 pm. My water broke Sat around 5:30 pm. I didn't have any cramping with DD's sweep, but felt "off" until my water broke.

Worked for me! I was 40+5, 2 cm and 80% effaced. I had cramping for the rest of day and regular contractions began around 2 pm the next day.

Worked for me at 39+5. Swept Monday at 10am and was cramping with irregular contractions until 2pm on Tuesday when contractions became real and intense. DD2 was born 6:56pm Tuesday.

Worked for me! I was 39.4 and had a sweep at 3pm, went into labor 12 hours later, had a baby in my arms 12 hours after that!! Good luck to you!

K, sweep has been done. I was 4cm, not sure on effacement but baby girl was nice and low and she could feel my bag of water bulging, along with baby's head. I have some cramping and am hoping contractions pick up and stay consistent as the day goes on!

My membrane sweep almost seem to shut my body down temporarily. I was having tons of BH leading up to it. Then I had it done, and big fat nada until my water broke, which was probably about 30 hours after having it done.

I really thought something was happening yesterday. Lots of cramping, some contractions, a lot of bloody show. Then by evening it all fizzled out and not much of anything going on today (besides a ton of bloody show still) Le sigh.

I know I can't stay pregnant forever and she has to come eventually, I just feel like a ticking time bomb and want to get this show on the road. I'm pretty sure I'm the last one here at this point, haha.

You have a lot of great answers and I don't post here often but wanted to give you my examples.

With my first I was 40weeks exactly and I had him 48 hours later. Didn't have much cramping until after 24 hours after.

With my second I was 39 weeks and 2 days and I started having cramping right after that turned into real contractions 24 hours after. I had him 11 hours after the real contractions started so again about 48 hours after the sweep.

Good luck but I'm a BIG believer in this. I also did a ton of walking after both.

Selah Grace is officially an outside baby. Born in the water, at home, on September 12th, at 41+5 weeks. We are both doing well and I am just so in love and happy she is here! Thank you ladies for your encouragement and insight once again! I'll post the birth story once I write it
