No coats on LOs in a car seat?

I'm a FTM mom and a girl I went to high school reposted another girls vent on Facebook about parents buckling their babies/kids in car seats wrong. Is that true?

I get that it might be too much on a newborn, but I wouldn't think for 5+ month old. I wouldn't put a big puffy jacket on.

No, no coats in the car seat for baby. my toddler doesn't wear a coat in her car seat either. Try putting your kid in with the coat, tightening the straps, then take the kid out without loosening the straps, remove the puffy coat and put LO back in the seat, you'll see how crazy loose the straps are, hence it's not safe. It's freezing here in the winter so we just put blankets over the kids once they're buckled in, but the coats come off before going in the car seat.

  • I know on tht thread about it, someone posted a link to this cool jacket that zips on the sides so it doesn't effect the car seat when you strap the child in. Try looking for that
  • Also the carseat covers that don't mess with the straps are supposed to be safe.

  • What @lica001‌ said. Coats can compress and allow your child to be ejected from the seat in a crash.

I just bought this. We live in western New York and our winters are long and cold. I am not looking forward to walking the dog every day while worrying about baby girl getting too cold. My dog, on the other hand, loves the snow so much.
