Anyone who sews or is fabric smart?!

My grandma's best friend made me a blanket before I was ever born, and I still use it, I'm actually using it right now. Lol. And I know this is probably totally unrealistic and a really dumb thought, but anyone know if there's any way I can describe a fabric on a site or something and find it somewhere? I am 19 years old, so obviously it's an old fabric. But I want to have hope that maybe a miracle will happen and I will find it somewhere? I want to make Hadley and Grayson one out of the same fabric. Well not me, but the woman who made mine said that she would make them if I found it. She said that she doesn't remember where she got it from. If not, she said that she has an idea in mind. I just love love love this blanket. Its adorable, I guess because I love cows. But it would just make me so excited for the girls to have the same blanket, because I take mine with me everywhere still. Vacations and such. I know it's probably highly unlikely, but I figured someone might have an idea and that it's worth a shot!

  • I don't know that you'd be able to find the exact same fabric, but I'm sure you could find something similar.  You might try posting a pic of the blanket and describing it?

  • @CuppyCakes721‌ I tried google, but found nothing. I was hoping maybe somebody knew of something better to help find it :(
  • The only other thing is to search all the fabric websites. But fabric companies don't generally keep fabric around for that long, especially since trends change. So if anywhere was going to have it on would think etsy or some other website that people sell fabric they have from a long long time ago. And if you find it there is a good chance its gonna be crazy expensive

EBay is a good place to look too. I never think of eBay cause I don't use it.
  • Probably won't be the exact same fabric but I'm sure you can find something similar. Look at JoAnn's online. They have lots and lots of fabric and you can order it online

  • Try fabric.com... they have lots of prints.  Ebay and etsy as others have said can be a way to find vintage prints too.  You can also get custom printed fabric made but I've never looked in to it really closely.

Can you post a picture of the fabric here?  Someone might recognize it or know where to get something similar.

  • You can put the picture online and then use the google image search to find the same one or one like it. If you go to images and then drag your picture over the search bar , it will give you results.

  • That fabric is really cute. But I've never seen one like it.
  • I would say your best bet is to try something similar. It's hard to find fabrics after a few months even when I know where I bought it from. I always buy more than I need for that reason. I would maybe try finding two fabrics, one with hearts and one with cows and maybe she can incorporate them similar to the pattern on your blanket?

  • I'm sorry, I don't think you'll find it!  Fabric companies print bolts and bolts of each fabric and sell it to stores all at once - then they don't print it again unless it's really, really popular.  Fabric stores have to keep up with the current stock, so they put the older stuff on sale within about one year.  The only way you would find that is if you happened to come across someone who bought it 20 years ago and has decided to sell it online.  It just doesn't seem likely.

Someone else mentioned an alternative of using a different cow fabric - that's what I would do.  It can still be "just like mom's" by having the same theme.  There are very cute fabrics out there that you could get instead!  This print is Urban Zoology Baby Cows and comes in several different colors schemes at fabric.com :

  • I did the same thing when I was pregnant with DS3 because I made all his crib blankets and plan on doing the same for DD1.  I described the fabric I was looking for as best I could on multiple websites until I found what I wanted.  I searched amazon, ebay, joanne fabrics, google and any fabric website I could find.  Good luck!!
