Rings Don't Fit

crizz13crizz13 member
edited September 2014 in November 2014 Moms
I have officially reached 31 weeks and it's uncomfortable to wear my wedding band and engagement ring. I knew this may happen, but I'm feeling sad about not wearing them.... what are you doing? Or did you do with your last pregnancy?

ETA: I forgot an option for you ladies that might not have be feeling the swollen finger symptom ;-) Sorry!

  • Mine still fit. I think if they start to not fit, I will take them off and buy a sterling silver ring.

  • I had to take a ring off my right hand already cause it was getting too tight. My wedding/engagement rings are still ok for now, but they are getting tighter. I am trying to pay close attention to them so when they get too tight I can stop wearing them before they won't come off.

  • I had mine resized. It only takes a few minutes at Jared, where we bought the rings and was free!

  • For some weird reason mine just won't fit over my knuckle anymore. I was going to buy a fake one but never got around to it so at this point I just wear nothing or costume jewelry.
  • Lucky girl for lasting so long!
Mine have been too tight for months.
Up until a few weeks ago, I switched them to my pinkie, but that started to get too tight as well, so they are in the jewelry box til baby comes.
  • Mine are still fine.  They were actually fine up until the end with DS, too, but I took them off during my 9th month, just in case.  Good thing because I was super swollen after having DS.

  • Mine still fit. If its hot they're a little tight but I haven't had a problem getting them off yet. If it gets to that point I'm going to put them away and wear one of my rings from years ago before I lost weight. I think I'd feel naked now without anything on my finger!

  • Mine still fit fine. I have a fake one that I bring on vacation that's a size bigger (hot weather makes me puffy) so I'd probably wear that if I couldn't wear my real set.

  • I stopped wearing mine when my youngest was born, so I haven't worn my rings in almost two years. However, I haven't had any swelling, so I imagine I could wear them if I wanted to. In previous pregnancies, I was able to wear them the whole time as well, although with my first two, I moved the rings to smaller fingers at some point.
  • I'm 29wks and so far mine still fit just fine unless it's super humid. I voted ditch them, because that's what I'll do if I get to a point where I can't wear my ring anymore.

  • So far, mine still fit, but they're getting tight.  Last time, I gave up wearing my rings when I was getting close to not getting them off at all.  The last thing I wanted was for my rings to have to be cut off.  I would prefer just not to wear them for a few months.  It was probably at least 6 to 8 weeks post partum before I could put them back on.

I wore the rings on a necklace for nice occasions, but mainly I just had them put safely away. I didn't wear a cheap ring replacement. I'm 38 years old and don't give a rat's ass (can I say that on the bump?) if someone thinks I'm an un-wed mother.  Who cares!

  • I voted SS way too early this am to respond why lol. I am still wearing mine. There has been a day here and there when they've been tight and I've taken them off. Hoping that as it gets cooler I'll be able to leave them on. With DD I had them off for months by this point. I just wore a silver band.

  • Another SS as mine still fit. But if they stop fitting I'll probably pop them on a necklace and get a temporary ring to wear :)
  • Rocking a naked finger.  I'm still just as married without a ring on so I really don't give a crap.  I do miss my sparkles though.

although I doubt this would be a problem with a huge belly, but I get hit on alot more when I have had to take my rings off in the past. Please go away creepy men.

  • I figured I'd blow up like a balloon, so for our anniversary in the spring I asked H for a right hand ring that I could wear when my fingers were too swollen to wear my bridal set.  I was able to wear my real rings for a lot longer than I expected and I'm still hoping that when the weather cools off and isn't so humid, I can go back to wearing the real deals.

I really love the ring he got me (I picked out my engagement ring, so he picked this one on his own with help from his dad), but I was more disappointed than I thought I'd be when I realized that I needed to wear it.

  • Am I really the only one that I had fat fingers already? I should have had my rings resized a long time ago, but was in denial and thought I'd lose weight and now my rings are stuck on me (even before pregnancy).... I have noticed my rings aren't as easy to rotate right now, but unless I suddenly want to go chop off my rings, they are stuck on me until I lose baby weight + some after I give birth.

  • I had taken mine off around 17/18 weeks and bought a sterling silver temporary ring. As of 2 weeks ago, that still fits, but my finger started having a reaction to it. :( So now that is on my necklace.

Actually since I took mine off weeks ago during humid weather and I've been getting hit on again, belly and all. I now wear mine on a necklace. Not sure why men need "proof" that we're taken before they stop acting like creepers, but whatever drives them away makes me happy. One of the worst episodes lately was when a guy saw my belly move and said it was "hot" and asked if I was single. This was while his baby's mama was in the bathroom changing their kid. GTFO dude!

  • Mine still fit at this point, but I already own a slightly larger plain band that I can switch to if needed down the road. If I have to take my real ones off, they'll get locked in the safe. I'd be too paranoid to wear them around my neck. I'd lose them.

  • Mine are still fine, I'm really hoping they'll stay that way!! :) If they do get too tight, I'll probably buy a fake one to wear. Maybe, probably depends on how much longer I have when/if they quit fitting! :)
  • Mine barely fit. I can get them on but it's painful to get them off, even under cold water.

I'm now wearing a real (but really low quality) diamond eternity band that I got off Overstock a few years ago for travel. It cost around $75 and I travel a lot, so it made sense. My hubby doesn't particularly like it though b/c he thinks it's ugly and doesn't want people to think that's his taste. I managed to squeeze the rings on for interviews this week, but who knows if that will work again next week...

Anyone else concerned leaving their real rings at home all the time now? My parents' house was broken into and all my mother's jewelry was stolen and we don't have an alarm system so I'm hiding mine.

  • My fingers are normal so far.   Last pregnancy, I think I had them off by now and was just wearing a silver band on my ring finger.

  • Man I had to ditch mine 2-3months into the pregnancy! :-( It got to the point I could only put on with lotion and get off by running my hand under cold water. So they've been sitting in the jewelry box. :-\ I miss my set and hope it'll fit ok after baby comes! At first we joked that I was demoted to just my hubby's baby mama.
  • With my son, my rings stopped fitting around 6 months into my pregnancy and my fingers never went down again. I had them sized up a half size, and they still fit great now (probably because I'm only 4 pounds above my pre-pregnancy weight; I started the pregnancy overweight and had serious nausea, so I lost a bunch and it took a while to gain that back).

I'm hoping I can wear them for the rest of the pregnancy, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what swelling may be coming down the road.

  • I took mine off for a few days when my skin under them got really dry and irritated a couple of months ago... Guess I must not have rinsed off some kind of detergent well enough or something. Maybe I'm just pregnant and super sensitive.
I take them off while I shower, but so far so good! If I get to the point where they won't fit well, I'll probably leave them in the safe until they do again. I'm not so keen on necklaces or I'd consider wearing them on a chain. My wedding rings are really the only jewelry I wear (except for special occasions) and even that took some adjustment.
  • i bought a fake set to take on our honeymoon (my mom's rings were stolen on her honeymoon and she always tells me to take only constume jewelry on vacation) and that set is a size bigger so i've been wearing the fake band for a month or so.

  • I took mine off last week because I noticed my hands were swelling a lot with the heat. I think I could still get them off/on and I may try when it's cooler, but I don't want them to get stuck. Right now I'm wearing a silver band I already had that is a size bigger in place if my wedding rings.

  • I'm still jamming mine on right now, but it's getting a little scary like they might not come off at some point.  I think I'll prob stop wearing them altogether in the next few days.  I'm not a big jewelry person other than earrings, so I'm not going out of my way to wear them as a necklace.  I'm def not going to cut off circulation just to feel more married.  I guess I'm just a "single lady" for the next couple of months :)

  • I've never swollen enough to need to take them off.  I wore mine all the way through both boys and never had a problem getting them on and off if I needed to.  Even now I can still wear them comfortably and take them on and off with no problem.
  • I had a stone fall out of mine and my ring was stuck on my finger. I tried everything to get it off. Woke up one morning held my hand up in air and then put naughty lube on it and it worked! Got it off.

  • Mine actually just started getting tight yesterday for whatever reason, no other day had I noticed any issue getting them on or off. I tried to put them on yesterday morning and couldn't get them over my knuckle, so I had to put my hands in cold water to get them on. The same thing happened this morning so I'm wondering if it's a trend or just a few hot days, who knows.

  • SS - I only wear mine sometimes, but not because they don't fit, but because the skin on my ring finger started reacting to the white gold on my bands. So I'll wear them throughout the day, but I end up taking my set off after washing my hands to make sure that the skin is fully dry and moisturized before putting the rings back on.
  • Mine started getting stuck when I took them off around 20 weeks.  My family has a history of buying me nice rings that are too large, which I never get resized because I'm not that into rings... so I just started wearing some of those.  Mostly for the "naked" feeling.

I don't get hit on too often... actually, I think that last time I got hit on by a rando was when I was pg with my first.  And still wearing my wedding rings.
