December 2014 Moms

Do you think I will regret it if I cut off all my hair today? ;)

So I have a haircut appointment at 5, and the plan was to cut it really short (its halfway down my back now.) I've been hating my hair for a month, and have pretty much no desire to do anything with it, and 9/10 days, its in a topknot.... I just feel stuck.

But of course, I washed my hair last night and this morning and having the best hair day in a long time, and it's making me nervous that I'll regret chopping it. I've often had short hair, but not in a while...

Here is me now (well, a month ago, but my hair is just an inch or two longer)
image

And I really want to go this short:
image
But am thinking about going a little longer first just in case.... I can always have him cut more if I still want it shorter...

OR

So thoughts? Be brave and just do it? Or chicken out? Obviously these hairstyles are all on much thinner people, so I guess I am worried my chub with just make me look stupid with a shorter cut.....

HELP!

  • I cut my hair when my DD#1 was just a newborn and instantly regretted it. Sleepless nights often meant no shower until afternoon and a ponytail is a necessity.  That being said, it takes every ounce of my self control not to chop all my hair off right now and I love the cuts you have picked.

  • Don't do it! You'll definitely regret it. I was having a bad hair week and almost cut mine, but then snapped out of it. Lol.
  • Also, if you chop it, post follow up pics!!

  • My hair gal warned me against doing anything too drastic. It's easier to put your hair up to avoid poop and vomit than it is to fight with a new style. I had mine pixie-ish for a while and I constantly fought with the bad hair days because I couldn't just pull it back. On the other hand, it will be easier to make the change now and get used to some easy styles as opposed to chopping it in January and struggling.

I'm not so much worried about styling it... I've spent 75% of my adult life with shorter hair than required styling in the morning, but to me, its much easier to style shorter hair than to deal with styling long hair. And my hair grows REALLY fast normally, and is in hyperdrive when I am pregnant, so even if I cut it into a pixie cut now, by the time baby is born, it'll be at least a few inches longer.

My big problem with long hair is that I hate washing such long hair, and then drying it. My hair is SUPER thick and takes hours to dry., and I have issues with going out with wet hair so I can only wash it at night and then I have to sleep with it wet. Ughhh. I also can't blowdry when its long because it gets frizzy, but when its short, I can. Then I jsut add some wax to fluff if out and call it a day.

I love the hairstyles you picked, but I also agree that long hair is a bit easier to get out of the way and to skate-by with if you don't have time to shower or whatever. Maybe there's a shorter hairstyle you could go with (like the longer of the styles you had pictures of), that would grow out to pony-tail length by the time LO is born.
The longest one I posted will be ponytail length by December/January. It's the same cut I always get when I chop my hair (for like the past three years, haha!) a

  • Go with the "Katie Holmes" cut. At least that is long enough to put back if you want to. I feel like that length offers more versatility style wise too.

I recently chopped mine into an asymetrical lob about that length and love it.
  • I can definitely see that top short cut on you and I think it'd look adorable. What kind of winter do you have in your region? I'd freeze without my hair!
I live in the Pacific NW (Oregon/Southern Washington) so our winters are super mild. LOTS of rain, but not super cold....  The is the other thing about long hair, I can't stand my hair being wet from the rain, but it's totally easy to put a hat over short hair.

Ohh, is that Katie Holmes?? I've had this picture saved on my computer for years as my go to cut, and always wondered why she looked familiar. Haha! I feel stupid now. :)

  • That Katie Holmes pic is the exact cut I got a couple of years ago and I LOVED it.  I went from hair longer than yours to that cut and definitely did not regret it.  It was super easy to blow dry in a few minutes and just put a little oil on the ends- the best cut ever.  I will go against the grain and say go for it!!

  • I took that Katie Holmes pic to an appointment about two years ago. It was fun, but I'm lazy and just ended up putting it up most of the time (had a toddler at the time). But it's super cute! My hair is about your length now and I enjoy it but see wanting to cut it all off too (I'm in Texas...)
  • Don't do it... Yet! Wait until after baby comes! I plan on cutting and donating 12 inches of hair too, but not till baby comes or else I might be a hormonal mess.
Maybe it's MY hormones, but all these replies saying don't do it are actually just making me want to do it more. Apparently I'm a rebel. :p
Haha I'm the same way - the second someone tells me not to do something then I really want to do it. It sounds to me like you know what you want - if you're sure then you should go ahead!
    Us rebels. :)

I think I'm going to go in and get the Katie Holmes cut, and then if I still want it shorter, just go straight to the short one. A big part of my wants to say screw it, and just go for the short one right away, but I'm a sissy. :)

I'll be sure to take a before and after picture. :)

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't do it.  I say wait and if after baby you want it short do it then.  But I like longer hair, so that is my vote.

  • Be brave and do it!! Short hair is the best!!! No harder to style and makes you look chic. (Long hair makes me look like a horse so I've had it short since I was 14!!!)
  • This is common pregnancy thing for my friends and I we all do it an then regret it. I'd say no but I fell into the category were I had a major hair loss after ds was born

This is kinda how I feel too... Ive always liked short hair better, but DH really likes my hair long... I just feel like my hair is so big and messy all the time unless I spend a ton of time and energy on it when it's long.... short hair has always been easier for me to style.

  • Omg i cut my hair when i was pregnant with DS. I regretted it and cried my eyes out lol. I wont cut my hair this time. All hair cuts must be non-hormonal decisions. If you want to, go for it. I am saying no to scissors until January ;)
  • I like the pixie cut!  It looks super-cute and seems easy to maintain.  I recently had a haircut.  I told the woman to keep the length and just give me a trim.  She took that to mean keep the length in the back and trim the sides more.  I got a cross between the "Rachel" and a mullet.  Not awesome.  I've been going with the 1/2 up 1/2 down hairstyle ever since.  At least you have pictures and know what you like on you, from experience.  Good luck!

  • Loving that second pic! Go for it!
  • I know wanna cut my hair like the first picture ;) I love both but I am typically a short hair girl and I agree with you it is soooo much easier to style! That said I also like the Katie Holmes pic! Do it do it!!!! :) :-bd
  • I say go for it!! I just chopped mine today and zero regrets. Actually, I feel tons cuter than before! I would start with the Katie Holmes length and go shorter if that isn't enough of a change for you.
  • I say don't do it right now only bc I know when I gain weight, short hair makes my face look fatter.

This, I suppose, is my main worry... I haven't gained a single pound yet (even though I am obviously rounder in the belly) so I am waiting for the other shoe to fall and to gain a bunch.... I am overweight to begin with (about 220, should be around 160 based on my height) so my midwives have said they wont be surprised if I don't gain much if anything since I have lots of reserves to work off of..... But still, it's a worry.

----------- quote fail ----------- Girl, I would never say you look overweight! You look like you're all belly!
Well thanks! The belly is deceiving though.. It's so large it makes me look thinner! I am actually fairly overweight, but carriede a lot of the weight in my belly, so I looked pregnant REALLY early.. But my midwives have suggested that with my diet being much better than pre-pregnancy(read as not drinking beer and sweets), and the fact that I've been doing more activity recently, that I may actually be losing weight in my body as I gain baby weight (baby, fluids, placenta, blood volume, etc).... DH thinks my face looks thinner than before I was pregnant too... Here is to hoping that I don't jinx myself into gaining 40lbs in the third trimester!

  • Do it!! My hair was about as long as yours and I chopped it to my chin!! I LOVE it. It's so cool and refreshing!!! Plus it's just hair. It'll grow back!! ;)
  • Sounds like your mind is made up, but I say you should wait!  I love short hair and often have a bob, but I just think with having a baby you're going to want to be able to pull hair into a ponytail.

You could always just go shoulder length, or change up your layers, or do something different to keep you from being bored.

I had a chin length bob when I found out I was pregnant in early April and have been growing it out since for this exact reason.  I'm finally going in next week just to get it trimmed/reshaped/spruced up now that it's about shoulder length.

  • it's only hair... It'll grow back. I change mine all the time- colour and length. It doesn't sound as if you're the type to massively regret hairstyles, as it seems you've changed it drastically over the years- therefore i say just go for it- especially if it grows quickly. :))
  • Pics!!!!!!
  • I chopped my hair into a short shag (it was the "in" style at the time) before my 12 year old daughter was born. Worst mistake!! I actually had to do my hair every day. This time, I will leave my hair long. It is so much easier to braid it, or put it in a ponytail.
  • I did it! I went with the length of the second picture, but I think I am going to go back this weekend and get it shorter.. I chickened out on the shortest one, and now I regret not just going for it. I also dyed it a cool auburn color. I can't take pictures right now because my apartment is dark, but I will tomorrow for sure!

  • I feel like major life events makes me want to change my hairstyle. Since being pregnant, I've had micro braids, 26 inch hair extensions and even colored my hair several shades lighter. All reversible styles. I don't think I could cut my hair, because it's a super permanent decision. I say switch it up a bit and see how you feel. After December, then go for the major cuts.
  • It looks great on you! What a cute cut!!!
  • I think it depends on what type of person you usually are with your hair. If you care a lot about it and normally don't like cutting it something drastic will have the same effects. I personally think of hair as I would toe nails. It'll grow back. Lol about a month ago I was so over my hair being super long and always being hot so I tied a hair tie around my hair to the length I wanted and had my boyfriend chop it off. Haha I love my hair now it's barely past my shoulders and so much cooler. I can still put it up or leave it down. My hair was about your length. Good luck on whichever you decide(:
  • Wow. It looks great!! Good for you!
