Is this a thing?

DD takes in a lot of food in a very short amount of time (2oz in 10 minutes or so).  Sometimes she'll pop off one side after eating and furiously root around for more.  So if I offer her the second side she eats again.  Then she'll fall asleep and a few minutes later pukes. It's not cheesy, just straight milk.  Is she eating so fast she doesn't register she's full until she's way over full then regurgitates the extra?  Is that a thing?  It only happens if I give her both sides.  I've stopped offering second side and just keeping her on side one and it seems to be better?

  • My DS does this too. I find it helps to burp him more often.

  • We had the same problem. It helped to keep her upright for at least 10 minutes after burping her.
  • DS does that too. Burping seems to help.

  • It could be that she prefers the faster flow of milk but is then missing out on the fattier hind milk. My DS is like this too. too much fore milk can upset their tummies. I try to return him to the same boob a few times before offering the second

  • This happened to us too. It helps to change diaper in between boobs for us. Boob 1, burp, diaper, boob 2. I didn't think it was possible for LO to guzzle breastmilk but he does somehow.
  • Sounds like she's a guzzler, can definitely happen with a good supply/efficient eater/fast letdown. Straight milk basically never hit the stomach juices to curdle it. Try burping to slow her down, and offer the same side if she still says she's hungry
