Re: *~*~*~*All My Plus Size Ladies!*~*~*~*

  • First I just have to say thank you to all of you ladies for sharing! It's nice to know we all go through similar experiences.

This is my first pregnancy and my first appointment I was told to gain between 11-25 piunds total. No fat shaming at all though. My docs are supportive and encouraging so that helps. They did refer me to a dietitian and I decided to go for one appointment. It was helpful.

I too have to do an early glucose challenge at 18 weeks and I had to do the 24 urine as well. No fun! I eat a lot of natural sugar through fruit and they recommended backing off of the number of fruit servings and increasing my fiber. It has been helpful so far!

Hope you all are doing well. And who cares what people think.......we are awesome because of our curves!

  • My old doctor gave me the don't gain more than 11 pounds (of course that was before he knew it was two so I am not sure what the new goal is), but didn't say anything else about my weight and I am 5'6" at 300. Now that it's twins he is sending me to another doctor and I am worried that the new one won't be as nice. He did a blood panel that showed I wasn't diabetic or prediabetic and my blood pressure has been perfect. I have lost about 5-8 pounds depending on the day and even though I don't have nausea anymore, I don't have much of an appetite either. I eat about a cup of food and I am full. I am not counting calories, just eating when I am hungry, but making good choices (for the most part).
  • It is funny you bring up the mom subject. My mom kindly offered to pay for weight watchers if I wanted to because they have a pregnant plan. I declined.

Huh, WW has a pregnancy plan? I did not know that. @strawberryanne‌ that NP sounds like a nasty bitch. Sounds like you handled it well - I'd probably have been nasty right back.
  • I'm a plus size gal luckily without diabetes or high blood pressure. I've been seeing Dr Pelino at Kaiser in Anaheim if any of you are So Cal based. She is amazing. Not concerned about my weight even when I brought it up. She said I'm healthy and so is the baby, so why worry. I am at 13 weeks, 2 days and I've gained 3 lbs so far but she told me it's normal and healthy to gain between 15-25 lbs for a woman my size. If you don't like your obgyn try and switch to anther one covered under your medical plan. Pregnancy is too important to be dealing with some fat-shaming doctors and nurses! Love your growing bodies ladies!

  • @cmhurst‌ Thank you!

My next appointment is with the NP and then I see my OB again. If the NP isn't more encouraging I week be discussing it my OB and member services if necessary. I have kaiser in No. Cal but I do love my OB.

I'm happy to hear most of us are being supported! It's important to be encouraged instead of discouraged. When I originally discussed TTC with my doctor and independently brought up my weight concerns she said that it would be great if I could lose some more weight but that I should not put off TTC in order to lose weight first. It was basically a "there's no reason for that" attitude.

  • @strawberryanne - My NP was the same way!  She was harder on me than my OB.  She told me I had to work out for 45 minutes a night.  My OB said 30 so dammit, I'm doing 30 :P It is important to exercise and eat healthy so I am doing my best.

This same NP that was slightly fat-shamey pulled some crazy shit on a friend of mine.  She saw this same NP with her 3rd pregnancy and she's a bit larger than I am.  NP told her she needed to lose weight and when my friend protested she said "You want to be alive for your other kids after this pregnancy, don't you?"

Okay, I get that we're all at a bit of an increased risk for GD and PE, but come on!  You don't have to tell a woman she might die and not be there for her kids because of her weight.  That is so messed up.  Needless to say, my friend asked to not see that NP ever again.
