Cloth Diapering

hi ladies! lil Joey talk

Man its been a while since I've been over here! I'm sure most might not remember me, but I used to be frequent over here.

Owen turned 1 back in June, and all of a sudden I got really sick when I would change his diapers. I had no idea why, but my husband suggest I may have been pregnant. No way was that possible, because you have to have sex to be pregnant. I thought I was just getting sick! Or cloth diapering was just no longer for us.
Anyway, to disprove my husband's theory that I was pregnant I decided to prove him wrong, and bought a test. Well. .... It was positive! What in the heck!?

I called to get an appt right away. Turns out I was over 2 months pregnant.
So now I'm looking into a newborn cloth diaper stash. I'm having another boy, this will make baby boy number 4 for us.
I'm compelled to buy some RaR lil joeys. They are so cute! I don't remember how everyone felt about them though.
I obviously won't get a full stash of them, but are they even worth it?

I didn't cloth diaper O until he was 2 months, so I have no experience with nb stash.

I also feel like I've been out of the saddle for a while. O is still in disposable diapers. I feel like I just don't have the energy to keep up with cloth diapers right now. Plus. ... I've got to strip, and I'm waiting for DH to switch the washers out so I can strip because the washer the owners have here SUCKS! !! Maybe this weekend. ..

Re: hi ladies! lil Joey talk

  • I only have 2 in my NB stash. They were cute and were good for the diaper bag, but they were the first diapers DS outgrew in absorbency and size at about 4 weeks. He was average size (7.5 lbs at birth). They also did take about 2 days to dry. So having a couple was ok, but especially if you are expecting a larger baby, I wouldn't spend too much on them.

I have never tried the THX but the lil joeys were awesome. And so adorable

    Congratulations on #4!

  • I had 2 Lil Joey's in my stash and wasn't a big fan of them... they looked super cute & easy and they fit right away but we outgrew the absorbancy of them by 2 weeks ... didn't really feel like they were worth the expense for so little use.  And they were a PITA to get dry since there was no way to expose the absorbent part of the diaper.

Our favorite NB AIO was Blueberry Simplex NB ... they were very absorbant and have an optional pocket so you can easily add absorbancy if you need it (we never did).  They looked bigger but still fit right away (had a cord snapdown) and continued to fit until about 3 months.  I only wish they were Stay-dry like the OS Simplex.

Mostly we did covers & prefolds as that was a fairly inexpensive way to have a lot of changes and snappied prefolds are great at containing runny NB poo.   We used and really liked both Rumparoo's NB covers and Thirsties size 1 duo wraps.

  • Yeah, we started leaking after a week or so.  I like the BG NB AIOs for that stage, but mostly did prefolds and covers.

  • Fwiw, F is 4 weeks today and just accidentally spent 4.5 hrs in a lil Joey and had no leaks.

  • Welcome to the 4 boys club!

I like the lil joeys a lot, but honestly I like the thx just as much. They're pretty much the same thing and half the price. I don't have the issue with dry time that others seem to, but the absorbency isn't going last super long. I'll likely just add a little doubler to stretch their use a little longer.
If you're looking for something that will fit tiny newborns but offer some more longevity, check out the newborn simplex.

Are you part of a Co op to get THX? I'm reading on them and watching you tube videos. Everyone says they buy then through a Co op, or on eBay for 5 bucks.

I went to eBay, and found them for 7.45 a piece, which isn't bad, but I'd much prefer to buy them for 5 bucks, since I'm not familiar with the brand, and it's for a new born.

I've added 4 to my eBay cart (Because I'm compulsive, and want them NOW!)
    :P but I haven't bought any yet.

  • Anders is peeing out of his already, and has been for a few days. He's a week old today. I have Lil Joey's and THX. I'm sad he's peeing so much. :( I'm going to try laying a NB bamboo insert in and see how it goes.

I found that THX are slightly bigger than Lil Joey's. If anyone was wondering. :)

Thanks, I was actually wondering if one ran bigger then the other.
    Hopefully the insert works!

  • The insert worked well. I had to fold it down an inch or so, though. I was worried it would gap in the legs, but it was just right. :)
