Do you care if DH knows how much you weigh?

Re: Do you care if DH knows how much you weigh?

  • Absolutely not! I don't care what body parts he's seen or how long we've been together. It's for me to know and him to find out never.

  • I'm surprised at how many ladies don't care. I guess it's my own issue. DH and I have always been about the same weight. He's actually been running and has lost about 20 lbs since our wedding. I obviously have not. So now I've got a good 40+ lbs on him and I am super insecure about it. He never asks and I don't tell.

He knows I've gained "about 25 lbs this pregnancy" but he doesn't know the start number and won't know the end number if I have anything to do with it. He only knows the "about 25 lbs" because that was my response when his mother asked how much I had gained....but that's another story.

He did say the other day that it'd be interested for me to weigh myself as I go in to labor and then when I get home to see how much of the weight was baby/fluid/etc. As if weighing myself will be my first priority when I'm in labor! ;-)

  • DH has been my big cheer-leader as I struggled to lose weight a few years ago so he always knew the numbers. I don't mind him knowing at all. I've just passed his weight this week, but he is quick to point out that Butternut and I together weigh more than him…its not just me.

However, we went to an OB appointment last month and he asked me, in front of the nurse, and I was really annoyed. I'm ok privately sharing the info but something about him asking me in front of another person felt really yucky…I'm not sure why.

  • I cared a lot at first...but now that I'm about 5 pounds away from a very scary number, I care less (which seems a little backwards to me, but whatever).  He knows and the other day after my appt, I was upset about a 10 pound weight gain in a month, he said "you weren't a stick before, so what's the big deal?  You're pregnant, weight gain is normal."  I felt a little less like crying and hurting him for the stick comment, and a little more like so I'll just lose the weight in a few months, what's the big deal?  Holy hormones.    :)

  • Pre-pregnancy: DH knew my weight when I felt really good about myself but I would hide it from him when I didnt.

Now: Yes, DH knows about my weight regardless of how I'm feeling. I don't care if he does because I know the scale will be going up until the end of my pregnancy.

  • It's funny, I've found pregnancy really freeing.  I have never been really overweight, but I was self-conscious in the normal female way pre-pregnancy, my thighs are too big, I have little love handles particularly when I take a break from my running.  He has always known how much I weigh ballpark, but never the exact number at any one time.

Now, I find that I'm proud of my body such as it is more than I have ever been in my life.  I'm GROWING A BABY, and that is awesome and beautiful!  We both joke that soon I'll weigh more than he does.  Still, I don't like to sit on his lap anymore, I'm worried I'll crush him!  I try not to think about "after" the baby as I am sure all the insecurities will rush back quickly.

  • I wouldn't care if Dh knew, but I doubt he cares enough about it to go out of his way to find out. If he was in the doctor's office with me I wouldn't care if he overheard, pregnant or not.

Frankly, I don't really care what I weigh either. I consider myself healthy, so I don't think the number really matters unless it changes drastically in a short amount of time. When I have to give my weight (like the DMV, for example) I give a ballpark figure because I generally don't know. I only keep up with it when I'm pregnant.

  • No problems with DH knowing. Don't really care if others know either. In fact I'm really tired of people telling me how little I still am pregnant. Fundal height and weight gain are right in the normal ranges, and pre-pregnancy I was in the middle of the normal BMI range. Yesterday after a comment  I replied with I've gained 25 lb; I'm right on track. The person didn't believe me. Why do people always say you look big or small and never just right?
  • Yup, he knows, and I'm okay with it.  He's super supportive all the time, so I feel comfortable with him knowing.  If I'm worried I've gained too much for a week, or not feeling good about the way I look, he always reassures me.

  • I'm confident that both prepregnancy and now I have mentioned my weight but that if you asked DH he would have no clue. He's not someone who cares about that stuff, so as long as I feel healthy and happy he is cool with it. I am way more into the number than he is. That being said, I think it is easier for me not to care because he always weighs more than me (although by the end of this twin pregnancy I might give him a run for his money). I think I might feel differently if we were closer in size. (He's about 10 inches taller and maybe 60 pounds more than me)

  • Pre-pregnancy I had no idea how much I weighed.  I haven't owned a scale in years because I go off of what I feel and off of the mirror and not off of numbers.  I wouldn't even let docs tell me what I weighed at my annual appointments.

Since I've been pregnant I've been a bit self conscious of DH seeing that number.  Which is stupid, but I guess that is why I threw out my scale in the first place.  He and I go to a group meeting where he takes my blood pressure and writes down my weight so I guess I just have to get over it :P
