What I love about this board is I know you mamas will tell me if I overreacted or not.
MIL called and invited DH, DD and me out to lunch this weekend, with her H and DHs niece. Well, everything was great and smooth until about halfway through. DH excused himself from the table and MIL was sitting beside DD and was talking to her, playing, and giving her food, etc. Then she went to give DD Coke. I might have had a slight panic attack. I didn't go all crazy but I calmly and jokingly said " whoa, she doesn't need help in the energy department." She just looked at me and didn't really say anything. I told DH when we left and he said I was much more polite than he would've been. I get along great with MIL, but I don't want her to be offended, but geez, DD is only 17 months. I'd rather her not drink soda until she's 17!!!
How would you have handled this?
Re: Should I call and apologize??
Unless you totally jumped down her throat which it doesn't sound like you did, then I think you're good. You told her not to give your child a coke. If her feelings are hurt by that, then she's in for a rough life
I actually think she should have asked you first anyway, but maybe I am biased due to my ODS having so many allergies.
