Babywearing

Let's talk about baby wearing! Does your baby like being worn? What carriers do you have and have you tried? Any successes or failures to report so far?

I've been working on getting DS to tolerate being in a carrier so I can do stuff around the house hands free. I've tried a ring sling, moby wrap, Beco carrier, and woven wrap so far. He tolerates the moby, so far hates the ring sling, and seems to like the Beco. I just yesterday figured out the front cross carry with my woven wrap and he's happily been sleeping on me for ~2 hours! I'm borrowing the moby and have to give it back in about a month so I'm hoping I can fully figure out the woven wrap by then. For DD, we were always an Ergo family, but didn't start until she was 5 weeks old.

Re: Babywearing

  • I have an Ergo and so far I love it. So useful and she seems to enjoy it.

  • I have an Ergo and DS loved it when he was in it. I am not super confident putting him in it yet with the insert. It's also a little warm. I also had ordered a k'tan, but I think I ordered too big a size. I am debating whether I want to get the smaller size or just stick with the Ergo.

  • I have a Solly Wrap and a Boba carrier and DD loves both. She goes in and almost immediately falls asleep!

  • I have the Ergo, and she usually loves it and sleeps for a long time; however if she's cranky and wants out, she starts pushing against me and screaming, so there's definitely a limit to how much she'll tolerate it.  I use the insert (at a month old, she's still only 7lbs 8oz), and it works well, though it does seem to make her a little warm... especially since she usually smashes her little face against my chest and curls into a ball.

  • I have a maya ring sling, a k'tan, and a wrap. The wrap i feel i can't get a decent grip around her and it's to loose, the k'tan she constantly pushes herself back and she eventually loosens it to much...

my favorite is the ring sling. She falls asleep very fast in it and I feel she's very secure.

  • So far she likes the Ktan. I have my eye on the Boba 4g but haven't bought it yet

  • I'm using a k-tan mostly when we're out and I need my hands free. I have an Ergo from DS1 (he hated all carriers) and I'm waiting to use that until we don't need the insert. I think we'd sweat to death right now.

  • I love my wraps!! They are saving my sanity when O only wants to be held. He is currently snoozing away while wrapped.

I'm not 100% sold on the ring sling yet. I think my wraps feel more secure. Maybe when he is about bigger it will work better.

  • DS loves to be worn. We wear him in either a woven wrap or a Ring sling right now. We also have several SSC's (Ergo types) and mei Tais that we will use when he gets bigger.

  • I'm using a Moby and she sleeps great in it! Sometimes, I feel like it loosens too much but I just started making it tighter to start with and now I have no issues.

  • I am new to babies and baby wearing but I bought a k'tan and I love it!! She was super fussy this morning so I wore her around the house and she slept for a long time. I just got the wrap yesterday but it has already made life easier and I can't wait to get out of the house and use it. Car seats are such a pain in the ass to lug around. I'm ordering another k'tan for sure and looking at an ergo, beco etc for future use but not sure what to buy.
  • We have only tried our old Bjorn and he hated it! I actually hate it too, but it was the only thing we had that would work for him and me. We have an Ergo that I used a ton with dd, but I don't have the insert and it hits my csection incision a bit. I just got my Moby in the mail so I am about to see if I can figure it out. I seriously need some hands free time and my arms need a break as he only wants me to hold him when he is fussy. Wish me luck!

  • I've tried a Beco Gemini carrier with him, but he doesn't seem to like being right up against me, stomach to stomach.  I guess I'll try again when he's older...

  • I have a Bjorn One, the new style carrier they recently released. I love it so much! The infant conversion is fantastic and doesn't require an insert, it's comfy to wear, and it's extremely simple to use by yourself. I had an Ergo with DD1 and I always found it unwieldy and awkward to put on, plus she never liked it much. DD2 really digs the Bjorn One, and I can wear her around happily for hours.
  • Those with the Ergo/infant insert, where do their legs go?? We have this, and I'd love to start using it to be hands-free with him, but do the legs get smooshed into the insert, or dangle out to the side? DS seems uncomfortable when I've tried

  •      I'm having trouble with baby wearing. I have a moby that I keep trying to use at home. I either tie it too tight or it gets loose fast. Either way I don't feel like he's sitting in a good position.  Also he gets really sweaty.
I also have a Seven Sling but the material is not soft and it irritated the skin on LO's head :( It's too hot for a hat in there. Maybe I'll look into getting something else, but these things get expensive!
  • I have a Ktan. I love it and DD is fine with it most of the time and usually just falls asleep. We have an ergo that I love but I hate the insert so I won't use it until she is bigger.

  • We tried the Ergo first & found the insert too hot for LA summer, so thanks for the tip @adventureisoutthere‌! @rstarrlemaitre‌ I think the idea is to keep their legs tucked in and out at the hips, so they don't dangle out of the insert.

I used the Moby yesterday and loved it, so much easier to strap on than I thought. And quite a bit cooler, temp-wise.

  • I have an ergo and a moby. I haven't tried the ergo yet because I don't have the infant insert, but the moby has been great. C goes right to sleep in the moby.

  • I have a couple woven wraps, a wrap converted ring sling, and a Tula, and DS2 had been in pretty much everything already, mostly around the neighborhood or in the house. Earlier he was fighting a nap and 5 minutes in a wrap while I folded clothes he was down for the count and I successfully transferred him to the bassinet where he slept for 2 hours!

I didn't wear DS1 in anything but a moby this early, and am loving learning some new carries earlier on this time. I tried kangaroo carry today for the first time and loved it! The only struggle I'm having lately is it's fairly warm here, we have no AC and I worry about him getting hot sometimes. Though his car seat is horribly hot as well so that isn't any better when we are out and about.

A friend is selling her wrap conversion bamberoo and I'm eyeballing it SO hard, despite it being purple... I love purple, and have all boys... But the carrier is really for mom right? Not baby? ;)

I have a Moby that I had planned on using now... but baby girl HATED it. :(

So I grabbed my Tula. I used a blanket to get her little legs to make the M right, but she loved that. Too bad my c/section didn't love it quite as much. So the tula had been put on hold temporarily. Boo.

  • I have used the Maya wrap and he falls asleep right away! I also have an ergo but we opted out of the new born insert because it looked to warm for summer. Can't wait to use it in a few months!
  • I like the moby a lot right now and I have gotten pretty fast at tying it. It's great for walks with the dogs or when she is super fussy and I'm doing house chores. I have a k'taan but she seemed to sit too low in it. I also use the ring sling but feel like I have to support her a lot right now so I think I will like it more when she is a bit bigger.
  • DD loves our Beco Butterfly ii and falls asleep instantly. It came with an infant insert. She's a month old and 7 pounds.

Plus it has owls on it. 2keut.

  • Wore our 3 week old to Whole Foods today and I was ecstatic to have both a happy, sleeping baby AND my hands available! I can't wait to feel more comfortable with my ring sling because the material is so breathable in this San Diego heat! I also have an ergo and purchased the infant insert because it says it fits between 4-6 months. It's too hot for it now but it will be nice and cozy in the upcoming months.
  • I have a K'Tan and an Ergo with an infant insert. I use the K'Tan when LO is sleepy and I know he will snuggle down and sleep. I don't have any problems with mine. Sometimes I think his toes seemed squished, but maybe I will try a different hold. I use the Ergo if he is more alert and wants to look around. I mostly wear him when we walk to get ice cream or at the grocery store so the cart isn't already filled by his seat. If he can't settle at night I will wear him while making and eating dinner, but we are getting out of that phase so it doesn't happen as much.

  • My ergo and my meitai are my go-to carriers for my 22 month old. My moby, ktan or ring sling is what I use with my squish. She hasn't protested in any of them. I've been using the ktan the most since it's fast and easy to nurse in.
