12.5 weeks & nausea getting worse

Hey girls! Just wanted to see if any of you had experienced worsening nausea in your 2nd trimester? I am 12.5 weeks pregnant with twins. The past 2 nights i have woken up with terrible nausea that has kept me up for 2+ hours each time. It is now almost noon & i am still in bed. My doctor has me on diceglis 4x a day ...

Re: 12.5 weeks & nausea getting worse

  • I wouldn't say mine has gotten worse but it's definitely still there. I'm 13 weeks and was hoping for some relief by now. Hang in there momma. Pregnancy is so rough! For me, even taking a shower is a struggle!

  • Yes, mine erupted at 13 weeks.... Until 24 weeks. Mine was associated with reflux. Once we got my meds right, it improved dramatically. Do you. Think you have reflux/heartburn etc? I was throwing up stomach acid every morning when I got up.

  • Yup! I had pretty strong nausea during the first trimester but started puking when I hit the second tri. At about 16 weeks I had enough and got on anti nausea meds from my OB.

It got better and I stopped needing the meds around 22 weeks.

Now it seems to come and go once or twice a week (I'm 28 weeks).

  • Mine was pretty bad from about week 8 to 16 or so, got much better for quite awhile and at almost 35 weeks I have very occasional problems but I think most of those now are from babies pushing things around and taking up all the room (it's more reflux than nausea). I would say don't be afraid to ask for something better than Diclegis if it's not working, there are lots of options out there. Personally, I lived on Zofran for a couple months but go with whatever works. Good luck!
  • I had HEG and was throwing up straight through to the end. I was given Zofran and Phenergan (which didn't really help because I couldn't keep either down); when it was clear oral meds weren't helping, my OB placed a PICC at 12w. Stay on top of your meds, and keep yourself as hydrated as you can tolerate. Keep water at your bedside so when you get up at night, you can take a swig. Sorry you're feeling crappy :(

I am only about a week ahead of you, so I am still hoping for the nausea to tail off, too. I've been vomiting since week 6 but it got really bad in the few days right before week 12 started. I went to the hospital and they ended up upping my meds and adding a B6 suppository (really uncomfortable, but I think it is actually what did the trick). I am still throwing up but only once a day now and on some days, not at all.

Don't hesitate to call your doctor, though, and ask them to consider adjusting your meds. I waited too long and regret it in retrospect, because I was truly miserable.

  • I'm sorry you're so miserable.  My m/s lasted through mid-second trimester, about week 22ish.  Threw up every morning around 4-5 am regardless until then.  Hang in there, mama!!
