Diclegis related or just a cranky baby?

Anyone else frequently (I take it 3 times a day, 4 pills daily) taking Diclegis notice they're just starting to feel crappy in general? I haven't thrown up in a few weeks, thankfully, but now I just feel generally crappy and wish I could throw up! No matter what I eat, I immediately regret it and am seriously considering making myself sick just so I can get some relief tonight! I forgot to ask my doc about it yesterday in the midst of my umpteen million questions and tonight is particularly rough. My little guy is also rolling a lot more tonight than he normally does. Usually it's flickers and pokes but he's pressing pretty hard on me tonight.

My pregnancy with DS was textbook so I don't know if this is just me having that "totally different pregnancy" experience or if it could have anything to do with my Diclegis..?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I know I can't completely relate, because I only took Diclegis for a month at the end of my first trimester and I'm a FTM.  Around 14 weeks, I decided to go off of it to see if I was feeling better and I didn't need it anymore after that (I'm 18 weeks now).  Are you willing to try and see if you can do without it (or lower your dose to once at night), or do you still feel that you need it?  Just a thought since you are into your second trimester now.  Hope you start feeling better!  :)

ETA: Check with your doctor first of course!  But mine didn't have a problem going off and then going back if I needed to.

  • I've tried going without it and taking less and it doesn't seem to be making a difference either way. I keep telling myself I'm gonna get sea bands, too, but I keep putting it off hoping it'll just go away. If I'm lucky then I get a day or two that I feel decent and can actually get off the couch/out of bed for more than a few hours. I'm REALLY hoping it goes away soon cos my poor 4 year old is suffering attention-wise because of it, too :(

  • Oh!  Sea Bands!  Yes! I used it those and I don't know if it was just a mental thing, but I think they helped that week after I went off the Diclegis.  I hope it goes away soon too!  In a few weeks you will be further into second tri so that could make a difference.

  • I've been taking the same amount for about two months now. I'm 16 weeks and still needing it. It doesn't make me feel bad at all though. I'm not sure what it could be but I would definitely give your doctor a call. Maybe you do need a different combination to help you feel better. I did get Sea-Bands as well but there wasn't a noticeable difference with them. I hope that you start to feel better soon!
  • I've been taking 4 a day since 6w and I'm 18w now.  I was nauseated until the end of 2nd tri with DS.  I still have some occasional nausea even with Diclegis, so I know that I definitely still need it.  But if you're feeling crappy now and were feeling okay before I would call your doctor.  There may be something else they can suggest.

  • I only take 2 a day, both at night, and I was just thinking to myself that I feel crappy before bed. My "all day" sickness had been getting better in the last week but I still have some pills left so I keep taking them. I usually take them an hour before I plan to go to sleep. Well I noticed that about 30 minutes after taking them, I feel sick. Then I read on the bottle a few days ago it says "take on empty stomach", which I never do because I snack all day to help the nausea. So maybe that's the problem? My midwife never said anything about the empty stomach rule and neither did the pharmacist. So I had no idea.

So long story longer, I have no idea but I feel your pain. I have 12 pills left, so 6 days worth for me, and then I'm going to see how I do without them for a few days. I've also been wanting to try the Seabands and keep forgetting to grab them!

  • My doctor told me Diclegis won't make you feel normal. He said it's for mild/moderate morning sickness. So if you have severe like I did you would still feel crappy. It helped me not throw up which is what the doctor wanted. I still felt like crap though and I still felt like you describe. Slowly, I have noticed I don't need it some days. I am now 15 weeks. I only take as needed now.
  • Ive been taking 2 diclegis a night since 7 weeks and Im 18 weeks now. I've tried to wean that down to 1 or none but if I don't take it for more then 2 days I get sick. I have noticed the mornings after I don't take it I have a raging headache so I was thinking that might be some type of withdrawal symptom. I normally feel much much better when taking it.
  • I've been takin two at night since 12wks. I'm lil over 15 now i ran out of samples from my doct over labor day wkend. Wow it did make a difference I was throwing up nonstop for day and half before I called for more. I do notice that I'm extremely exhausted all time but I'd rather be tired than puking nonstop. I still have nausea from time to time. Mayb try to cut down to two pills I couldn't do four I slept off an on non stop for few days when taking four.
  • Thank you for all of the input ladies! My doc wasn't in today so hopefully I hear something on Monday from her. I'm buckling down and getting sea bands tomorrow to see if they can even take that yucky edge off that my Diclegis has always left behind. Hopefully that will give me SOME kind of relief this weekend cos last night and today were pretty rough! I'll update either way on Monday :)

  • May I ask you ladies if you tried zofran first and it didn't work? I am taking at least two a day and still throwing up, I've lost twenty pounds and feel awful all the time. If I walk or do too much I get sick. I'm wondering if I should ask for new medicine. Sorry to hijack but wasn't sure if I should start a new post.

  • Don't feel bad at all! I tried Zofran and it didn't do a thing for me and I couldn't even hold my head up without throwing up all over myself! That's why my doc put me on Diclegis. When I first started taking my Diclegis, it made the majority of my MS go away but it still left that icky, hungover feeling but it was better than what I was dealing with before. I've actually gained around 15lbs the past 4 months but I've only kept on 7lbs.

  • I tried Zofran as well and it didn't do a thing for my nausea and vomiting. It actually made me feel a whole lot worse. Hopefully you will find something that works for you!
  • Any chance you're constipated? That can make you feel icky and nauseated. My 2nd pregnancy was the only one where I had no m/s, but I had a bad bout of constipation in early 2nd try and it was like having m/s.

  • Fortunately, I haven't been constipated in weeks! I'm very grateful to not have that on top of all of this! :)

  • I take two at night. In the beginning I was taking the four a day but noticed it made me so tired I was falling asleep while playing with my daughter. I went down to one in the afternoon. I will take one every once in a while still during the day if I start feeling really bad. Never tried Zofran-doctor wouldn't prescribe it-said it wasn't good to take in the first trimester. It definitely helped me but there are still days when I feel craptastic! I am 18+2
  • Taking the 4 a day must be why I'm so tired. I've heard that from a few women and even DH thought it was strange that I'm still so tired this time around. I can lie down and pass out for 5 hours at a time and still get up, eat and go right back to bed for a full night (the nights my insomnia doesn't kick in lol). I finally ordered some sea bands and I'm hoping they come soon so I can at least get that crappy linger to go away! It's bad enough that I have to force myself to eat most days. I did pick up those bottles of lemon and lime juices (the ones that look like the fruits themselves) and last night I used the lemon one and was drinking it with hot water and that seemed to help a bit, too. I've read the citrus helps settle your stomach and even if it was mental, it was nice to watch an entire movie without getting sick or being completely miserable!
